The food was initially top notch, but they’ve lost one star because 6 months later that standard was not maintained. Still, the staff are really pleasant, and the owner is really trying to do something different. Absolutely great for coffee and cake, etc.

The Coonanbarra Café is a Wahroonga institution. Overlooking the wondrous park, this family run restaurant is just as beloved by ladies-who-luncheon as it is caffeine-desperate parents playing with their kids across the road. On busy days the café even sets up an outdoor coffee cart, which is always much appreciated by their captive audience! The coffee can be a little hit and miss, but if you’ve got a little ‘un going nuts in the playground, you’re really not going to notice. There’s a bit of a ‘Wahroonga premium,’ going on with the prices on this modern Australian fare, but on a sunny day, with peals of laughter drifting over from the park, this is a lovely place to while away your morning(and the brunches are delish!). From lunch onwards, it’s worth noting that the café is BYO($ 3 corkage), but if you’re coming with a group you’d better book — for the locals definitely know to congregate at the Coonanbarra!

Right across the street from an awesome family friendly park, Wahroonga Park( ), this little café is situated in a gorgeous classic building. Every time I have been by, I have been in a mad rush to grab some caffeine, and so never really sat down and chilled out. Having done a bit of research for this review, I might just have to venture out and try it for a weekend breakfast. In my constant rush(trying to get coffee as fast as possible before the kids need me again), I totally missed the buttermilk pancakes. After my trip to NYC recently they have become a slight obsession… Before I get your hopes up though, the coffee here is nothing to write home about(he says as he writes it in a review). It is not that it is bad, and for the latte and cap drinkers out there you’ll likely not even notice, more that it is not the velvety coffee I desire. If you really just want great coffee and have an extra 14min walk time in you pocket(7min each way), then head over to Kokoh(review ). They know there trade well.
