The Country Trader is somewhere you go if you want a unique and/or quirky piece for your home. I love wondering around this store. It’s dark and moody lighting add to the magical air of each piece. The place is packed with everything from sofas, tables, beds, desks, wine storage, gates, garden pieces, urns, fireplace frames, columns, lamps, candlesticks, mirrors, sculptures and any number of eclectic pieces you might find on a movie set from any decade in time. Make the most of their design consultants who will visit your home and recommend pieces that will suit your home. You can also loan the piece to make sure you do like it. You can even hire the stuff for events like your wedding which is brilliant if you aiming for an other-worldly affair — think The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe and Moulin Rouge(both movies hired out TCT pieces). Even if you can’t afford the pieces visit just for the trip it takes your imagination on.

This is a pretty big statement, but I’m going to say it anyway. The Country Trader might be one of my favorite stores. EVER. Why you may ask? Well, I don’t really have a specific answer. You may just have to go there yourself to understand my reasoning. Basically, The Country Trader is owned by the same man who owns the entire pyd complex. I had to find out more from a lovely employee in the store. She described to me that the owner travels the world in search of antiques and one-of-a-kind finds, allowing Sydneysiders to bring them into their homes. This applies to breathtaking furniture and woodwork, stunning pieces of art, collectors’ items, and much, much more. Talk about a dream job! Just walking around the store is overwhelming, though amazingly, the large space is neither clustered nor dusty. You’ll find items of various styles, from eclectic to traditional. Along with beautiful furniture and lighting, you’ll find the unexpected, like a display of pinned beetles or antique chemists’ test tubes and flasks. But this ain’t your average garage sale. In fact, one massive wooden boudoir in the store is priced at around $ 60,000. Yup. This is a great place to decorate your house or to buy a gift for someone you care about, but be prepared to shell out some dough.
