Great meal all around:
**Excellent service, very personal and attentive
**Starter was a dressed up version of Shrimp Croquette (Belgian bar staple) with small shelled prawns, and tiny shrimps too
**Steak tartare was excellent
**Sole was also very good
**(My 1 complaint: 8 EUR bottle of Pelligrino…)
Location right across from the Fine Arts museum in trendy Het Zuid neighborhood of Antwerp, right around the corner from an Ann Demulemeester shop. We ate out front for the people watching, but there’s an equally good back terrace area.

Great food and service. My whife had tuna and I had the soles. Both were very fresh and delicious. I added a steak tartare, which was prepared like it should: ‘à la minute’ with fresh herbs. We had 3 house-​halves of red merlot: a good choice. The interior is trendy and cosy. This is not a cheap toutist place, but the menu reflects what the Belgian are champions at (except for women tennis): decent contemporary bistro food. We will be back definitely!

Hippodroom is located in the hip Het zuid neighbourhood of Antwerp, where you can find other restaurants, bars and lounges.
I went for dinner here in the summer of 2011 and even in 2014, I think fondly of the beef tartar I had at Hippodroom as it was one of the best I have ever had. Perhaps it was the Belgian cows… but the meat was so fresh, classically-​prepared and accompanied by the best frites with a lemon aioli dip. Divine.
The décor was also very classy, decorated with high ceilings and beautiful couches. There was also a patio at the back. I was even taken through a tour of the kitchen by a friendly staff while on my way to the ladies room.
The service was indeed great, our waiter was so friendly; we ended up chatting for half an hour and he suggested other good places for us.
