Probably the worst place in Brussels. Very poor staff — unmotivated and rude. Bypass this place of you can. Many other great places in the area…

Wonderful local spot, that will make you miss the food for sure. The pot of white wine mussels, house blonde ale, and beef stew WILL change you. The most fresh and flavorful seafood dish we tried. What a great way to start our Brussels trip. The price was absolutely reasonable for the quality and flavor of this incredible menu.

I was overall impressed with this place. We went out late and were casually dressed so we felt we didn’t meet the dress code of the other restaurants in the area. The staff was very friendly, they had wifi, and the appetizers were good. We enjoyed the Grimbergen beer. My appetizer was scampi in garlic sauce and was delicious. The Grimbergen Blond was great.

My second visit to this bar/café. The first visit was in the summer and I really enjoyed the daily special(roast chicken) on the sidewalk tables. This visit though is on a rainy, cold November Saturday so I am inside and there are no daily specials . I ordered the Flamade(beef stew made with beer) and a Grimbergen Tripel, a strong yellow Tripel with great taste-one of my favorite beers. The beef was served with the ubiquitous Frites. The beef was very good but a little sweet for my taste with not all if the sweetness coming from the caramelized onions, I would suspect. Perhaps a little added sugar? The overall impression was good but I did have a problem with such a rich beef dish standing alone(the frites don’t count) — a small salad or a vegetable would have been a good counterpoint. The only negative I would note is the service. There were three waiters and two occupied tables but it was hard to get their attention. They were primarily engaged in conversation with each other. After 5 – 6 minutes, I banged my beer bottle on the table to get attention. My last visit was a four-star, this time is a three.

I have to admit that my opinion of Grimbergen may have been colored by my mood and desires at the time, and Grimbergen did not manage to suit either. We arrived late on a Wednesday evening. I won’t say I seek«hip,» but I also like a place to either have some energy or to have some coziness too it, and this place had neither. The atmosphere was sedate, the crowd primarily on the older side. I was parched and all I really wanted was some water. I recognize that some might consider my irritation a little out of order based on the locale, but I cannot deny that I was peeved that a) I cannot get tap water at most restaurants here despite that fact that the tap water is perfectly potable and b) as so casual a spot, I cannot just sip on the my own bottle of water that I already spent too much money on elsewhere, that I must purchase there marked up H20. We ordered escargot, which satisfied my compatriots curious palates, given this was a new dish for them, but — and I’m going to go ahead and sound completely pretentious here — I found this one bland and a touch on the chewy side. Not terrible, just unremarkable. We also ordered the fried crevette salad; I’m not sure what I expected here, but certainly not what we received. It was a big ball of mayonnaise, shrimp and a few other ingredients deep fried and served on a small bed of greens. Despite my hunger, I couldn’t stomach more than a bite. The service was hurried, uninterested — we were just another table(and in the way of their getting home, I’m sure. Hands down, without question, I will be selecting one of the fish places around the corner in St Catherine’s, even if those spots have white table cloths and are a bit on the fancier side. I’m sure any price hike would be worth it.

The food in Brussels didn’t exactly wow me but Grimbergen definitely stood out. It was a little pricey for what you get but I would definitely go back so I guess it’s not too expensive. I had the chicken brochettes and the chicken was cooked beautifully. I also ordered the Mediterranean salad which my wife and I split as a starter. It was great too but didn’t have much lettuce which I thought it needed. They have a decent beer selection other than Grimbergen as well. My wife had the grilled shrimp salad and it was really good. He shrimp were cooked perfectly and the salad, which had plenty of lettuce, was well balanced and tasty. The waiter did put in my order for the wrong dish and when it came out he tried to talk me into having that instead. I told him no, and like I said above, my meal was still delicious albeit a bit delayed. He did apologize afterwards and give me a free beer souvenir glass which I thought was a good gesture. The atmosphere of this place is really nice too. It’s laid back and elegant without being up tight. The wooden light fixtures were really cool.

Tried this place last night when our intended restaurant was full for the evening. It worked out just fine. Grimbergen has a great atmosphere and more«contemporary» that others in this area. Seemed like there were lots of locals eating there, always a good sign. We both had the Grimbergen«blonde» beer and it was very tasty. The Belgium beers make the Germans seem like amateurs. I enjoyed my chicken brochette(skewer). It was grilled just right and the sauce was delicious. It was served with a generous salad and side of fries. My husband had the mussels in a garlicy white wine sauce. The mussels were a bit small, but the sauce was amazing! It would serve well by itself as a soup! The bread basket had some amazing rolls, all fresh and tasty. The customer service was okay. They didn’t do anything terrible, but the fries came without mayo and it took a while to get that to the table. Also, it took a while to get refills on our beers. There was a very large party that was being served by our waiter, so his attention was not on us. But I would definitely go here again. The place has great beer and is very comfortable. There is a nice bar if you just want a beer.

Was getting a pretty late dinner and many of the restaurants in this area were either full or closed. Grimbergen was decent, nothing amazing but good food, good beer, a relaxed but classy atmosphere. The sauce with beef brochettes was really good! Dip your fries in it for extra awesome. The beef itself was a little chewy for my taste but my wife really enjoyed it so I guess it depends on your preferences. The Mussels with white wine sauce were good. Their house triple was also pretty good.

While in Brussels for two days, this was one of the best casual dinning we experienced. The beer is of my favorite with many different types of Grimbergen to chose from. Food and service were better then most other places… Much, much better then anything in grand place. A good place for solid food and service. Now… I just went a second day in a row, as we love the Grimbergen beer and can only get certain styles there, but and yes this is large… We had very poor service on a early Wednesday night. It was frat boy time with checking personal phones, receiving personal calls on the main line. There was only three people in the restaurant and they forgot to get my wife’s desert. Needless to say, we skipped the desert and were not as impressed from the night before. Love the beer, not the service on the second night only. The first trip was great.

This casual restaurant in the less touristy(and therefore much nicer) St. Catherine area, was a solid choice for a evening of good mussels and great beer. The bread basket had a nice variety and was very fresh(as always in Brussels!) and my mussels with garlic were excellent– no grit, but kind of little. Also, do yourself a favor and order the Kriek Mort Subite(which evidently translates to «extreme death cherry beer») — oh yeah! So why only 3 stars? The service was harried and spotty, although awfully cute. It took forever to get our fries and sides of mayo. The requested vinegar for the fries never showed up. But if you are in the area and don’t want a stuffy, formal evening meal, this could be a good alternative.

We randomly picked this place for dinner because I wanted mussels. The mussels cooked in white wine were satisfying but I doubt there was any difference between the offerring at other tourist restaurants. The surprise, however, was the beef skewer my husband ordered. They were nicely done in medium rare and the sauce was DELICIOUS. It tempted me to eat a few pieces even after finishing my huge pot of mussels! The Grimbergen beer was quite nice too. The area near St. Catherine is less touristy and have a lot of nice options for food. This restaurant has a nice outside seating infront and the deco inside the restaurant including the bar area look quite nice and contemporary. Definitely recommended!
