Amazing place, high quality food, amazing mix of dressings. The stuff is excellent! Worth every penny

Very happy with this restaurant, excellent setting and value; however, it does get busy for obvious reasons. It helps to study the menu ahead of time as it does get overwhelming with the huge selection of choices.

Nice décor, but horrible food and service! Granted, this was our first time eating hot pot of any kind, but we did ask the waiter for help and suggestions and he just IGNORED us! Overall it was a total freaking ripoff, the menu was confusing it really isn’t All You Can Eat! Seriously, if you’re going to open a restaurant in a nice hotel, please employ people who can communicate even a little bit of English. I’m asian myself, so don’t call me a racist LOL! Anyhow, this is one of the only places I’ve ever eaten where I did not want to give a tip, and trust me I’m a generous tipper(20−30% plus). $ 75 bill and we were disgusted at the icky soup we created.

FULLONJAPANESEHOTPOT which means you get an «Authentic» Japanese experience. A group of us arrived and all ordered the premium deluxe AYCE meal. We ordered Kobe Beef, Sashimi, curry fries, fish balls, you name it. The soups were extra but definitely worth it cause there are 8 different flavors. Only negative thing I experienced was a language barrier with our server which resulted in one wrong soup base. To me it wasn’t a big deal cause everything was new to me so I wasn’t going to ding them on that. Here are my tips to AYCE: 1. Do not over eat 2. Do not over order 3. Wear stretchy pants 4. Bring friends who can pack in the food into their stomachs. 5. Do not over eat. I had to repeat the DONOTOVEREAT part because i felt like i was going to literally burst on my ride home. ENJOY!

One of the better places for hotpot. Service is good too. Only thing is the menu is very confusing. It starts off at a base price of $ 14, then after you add the broth, the deluxe menu and dipping sauces, it came out to almost $ 30 per person. The price was totally worth it, but hard to understand at first.

I have come twice and this place is fantastic! The décor and ambiance is very nice. The all you can eat options are great. The service is two thumbs up. They are very attentive and not understaffed, which makes you feel like this is how it should be everywhere. It is authentic, which is what I have been looking for. The menu options are a bit confusing at first, but it is worth it for me and the food is the best I’ve had for an all you can eat place!

We were hotel guests and one day we stopped by for dinner We asked the wait staff if we needed a reservation if we returned in an hour he said NO need for Reservation So when we returned in an hour there was no more table but counter seats open while the only tables were reserved by some other guests. Not sure why he didn’t take our reservation. His answer was that he did not know our names! How idiotic.

Japanese Hot pot here is so good and broth(soup base) tasted just like what I had in Osaka, Japan. The service of Japanese servers were excellent. I liked Zen like decoration, too. I’ll revisit again soon.

G-Be located in ground level outside the new Grand Villa Casino off hiway #1 Willingdon exit(#29 in case you are wondering…) is a pretty izakaya and a great meeting place with friends to catch up on life’s most important issues… G-Be is part of the Gyoza King group who has also brought you Gyoza King, G-Men, Gyo-O and Grazy Dog… Paper cranes, paper lanterns and Japanese historic inspired architecture fills the resto. There are plenty of booths/tables on either side of the center communual long table. Book the large party room if you prefer some privacy! Beauty of it all is that most of the time it isn’t too busy… with plenty of free parking spaces !! Overall the food was pretty interesting and esthetically pleasing. However some dishes are a hit or miss… All their sushi rice are made with wild grain red rice(geared towards the heath cautious customers); for me, I prefer traditional white sushi rice… The texture is chewy and doesn’t blend well… G-Be Izakaya Japanese Restaurant 4331 Dominion St Burnaby, BC (604) 435‑6002 Cuisine: Japanese Price/Entrée: $ 10 – 15 Out of 5…(1: Don’t bother — 5: Excellent) Food: 3.5 Service: 4 Ambiance: 4 Overall: 4 Dynamite Explosion Roll… Prawn tempura, avocado, cucumber, wrapped with seaweed inside-out & topped with spicy tuna. What’s nice about this roll is that the prawn was fresh, sweet and still elastic to the bite… What’s odd about it is the wild grain rice… Crab & Lobster Croquette… Weekly special korokke(or croquette) made with mashed potatoes, infused with crab and lobster. Nice velvety smoothness deep fried with panko. Although delish and all, couldn’t really taste the crab nor the lobster…(I wasn’t expecting a lot of the shell fishes to begin with…) Wasteful in a croquette? My bf thought so… Hamachi Carpaccio… Yellow tail fish thinly sliced served with tobikos, cucumbers and chives with light wasabi vinaigrette … fresh and sweet yet slightly tangy… nom nom nom This was quite a refreshing dish… Saba Sashimi… God I love mackerals… give me more pls! Uni Sashimi… Oh mon dieu!!!(it’s OMG in French btw… what were you thinking? lol) Other try-outs sans photo: Soy Milk Hot Pot… Presented in a miniature wooden hot-pot box came a soy milk tasteless broth that lacked flavour and oomph. It also lacked some heat(meaning it hot pot wasn’t very hot at all). Vegetables(some bok-choy, carrots, cabbage and other odds) were chopped finely and raw… Crème Brulee… Comes in 3 flavors: green tea, jasmine and earl grey. The best was hands down the earl-grey — rich is flavour, somewhat like a London Fog less sweet… perfect. The other two was just regular, nothing wow about it. The caramelized crust was just right. Uni Steamed sushi mini Hot Pot… If you are a fan of Uni, you will really like it… Wild grain rice with egg, seafood, and yours truly the sea urchin. There is about 8 spoonfuls at most — share sparingly, better yet get one for yourself! That’s it for now… ja né!

I’m a fan of the Gyoza King restaurants(but not their websites – they make it so hard to figure out which ones they own if you can’t remember the name. They really need a central site.) This restaurant is no exception. The food is great, atmosphere and décor is nice, the service is attentive. I only hope they last, because every time we’ve been there(5 or 6 times), it’s been empty.

Izakaya beside the Grand Villa casino, opened by Gyoza King. The ambiance is nice, rock garden décor. Friendly staff too. It was practically empty on a Saturday night, so no problems walking in without a reservation. There is a charge for the tea, but they do carry the G-Beer? The good: Seafood tataki salad — they used caesar salad and maybe even dried parmesan?! It worked though, and it was an impressive portion with fresh tuna Lamb chops — served over a burning flame(like the one’s they use at hotpot) with miso sauce. I liked it — non-gamey, smokey, perhaps a little bit too salty if you used all the sauce though. Soft shell crab — this was excellent, crispy, non-greasy The bad: The rolls were overpriced and not particularly tasty — they used a strange purple coloured rice as well. Verdict: Wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here — but if if I’ve got some cash to blow after a few rounds at Grand Villa…

It located in Burnaby next to the Grand Villa Casino. I was so amazed at their interior décor, quite fancy and stylish. The waitress asked us what kind of drink we would like to order and we found 7 specialties tea on the menu, they charged for the tea per head. Sashimi was ok not fresh and tasty. We were quite disappointed. Beef sashimi was good and the sauce delicious Soft shell crab was excellent. Triple seafood roll was ok and size of roll was huge. Most unique dish: GomaMiso Chicken Karrage was flash fried rice crisp battered fresh chicken breast with sesame miso sauce. We loved the crispy rice/cereal batter since it make it super crunchy and the chicken breast is still very succulent and moist.

Service: 5 stars I’m not sure why we were served by at least 5 different staff(1 to seat and serve, 3 others to serve, 1 to open the door as we left) and I don’t care. At least it gave me a chance to see many of the staff in action. Everyone was super polite, and the fact that they were in uniforms was kind of endearing. My Japanese friend had a very long, very animated, very friendly conversation with one of the servers. I only made out a few words(Hastings, PNE and ikebana) but I could have listened to them for an hour it was so beautiful. But I digress… Ambience: 5 stars The variety of seating options looks like parties of any size can be accommodated. The inventive use of traditional Japanese designs as well as elements from nature was simple and dramatic, with fantastic lighting to show it all off. Even the bathroom had some well designed surprises. The Food: 4 stars I loved the special blend of rice in the sushi(including wild rice, millet, and other varieties along with the usual short grain) and found the mix to be quite subtle. My friend’s a purist with a far more sensitive palate and strong opinions on sushi; she would have preferred the kind she grew up on. The presentation was lovely and again, inventive. I wasn’t entirely smitten by the sound of the G-Garden roll’s combination of ingredients, but avocado, cucumber, burdock root, mango and pickles go surprisingly well together. Who knew? My steamed pork and vegetable gyoza were smaller than I’m used to, both in size and quantity. If I tried them again, I’d go for fried instead of steamed. The fried goat cheese stick served with balsamic teriyaki sauce was calling my name, but I didn’t succumb to the temptation. Now I wish I knew what I was missing! I dined at G-be shortly after they opened for business. The liquor license was still in process, so the menu, in addition to apologizing for its broken English, invited us to «please enjoy our soft opening menu». Not a big deal for me, as I prefer tea with my sushi, but if you’re in the mood for sake, you may have to wait.
