Decent sushi, Don Buri etc. This is a «work lunch» place close to my office so will always have that association working against it for me but I’d plop Kita squarely in the middle of the quality and value range of all lower mainland sushi. Nothing special, but good. The people are friendly.

Have been here quite a few more times(convenient location) and there’s definitely one person in there who provides good customer service and is quite friendly, so I’m changing my review!

If you’re looking for a quick bite and in real need of Japanese food you should check this place out. Every time I walk by there’s tons of ppl lined up so I thought to myself I’m gonna grab food here soon. Today was the day when I saw an opening of the once in a blue moon empty line up. I looked up at the menu and I want to try a chirashi don deluxe and a krispy kita. The service was pretty good, the young lady taking our order was very polite and nice. We gave a tip first off because I wanted to wait outside and not have to watch them make our food. This place is great! the out door seating plus if you want to eat inside they have a few tables there too. The krispy kita was yummy and the Chirashi don was above average, better than the ones I have had here in BC so far. There was more of a variety of fish and other yummy stuff packed in. I will be back here before I leave home. I’m thinking either a night time snack or an early lunch.

The sushi is good. BUT, the woman that answers the phone and greets you is a horrible bitch. I have been at Kita more than 20 times over the last year and she never fails to hangup prematurely, ignore you as you enter the restaurant and give stink eye. My boyfriend is afraid of her and never says anything but enough is enough. She needs to go. I want her gone.

Hey guys never ever ever go to a place called Kita sushi located on Dawson St Burnaby! I just had the worst experience ever! Went down there for lunch and order three rolls(avocado, dynamite and asparagus) She brought us first two plates with rolls and then switched them around, then she realized that we didn’t order that so she took the plates and placed them in the table next to us. She then again brought a plate with rolls for me, it contained 2 rolls(avocado and other one with fuck loaded with stuff that I didn’t know but I just ate it) I began eating the rolls and she came to my table and said: ‘that’s not your order! and I’m like wtf??? is avocado roll right? and she is yeah but that’s not your order, you didn’t know it?” bitch started blaming me! so she went back to the kitchen and brought a new plate(pretty dirty I could see the grease on the plate) and I started waiting for my other roll missing, the avocado roll. My boyfriend stood up and told her that one of my rolls was missing and she said: she already ate it! and I said no! you made a mistake with the first plate, so she brings back the same first plate where I was eating from the first time! rude staff, shitty food! just don’t go.

Worse service ever. Food is mediocre, but the service is so terrible that I wish they can shut down and have another sushi business takeover.

The prices here are a bit higher than your average sushi place and in my opinion not really worth it for the quality of the food that you are getting. If anything you are just paying for the convenience of having a skytrain station close by. I had the spicy tuna roll and the plain udon and was disappointed with both. The roll was made up of both tuna and avocado and it was a decent size with a nice sauce but not worth $ 4.20. I’ve had much better rolls for cheaper elsewhere. The roll didn’t come with wasabi or ginger and upon request they took my plate that I had already eaten from and just asked the guy at the counter to put some ginger on it. It didn’t seem like a food safe practice. The udon was different from what I was expecting. They has a piece of aburaage in it and it made the whole dish very sweet. It wasn’t unpleasant but it didn’t satisfy my craving for something savoury. The girl at the counter taking my order was rude and looked grumpy even though the shop had just opened. The rest of the staff were distant but friendlier upon interaction.

These guys suck. They have no manners and are rude as sh*t. Every time I go there they don’t even acknowledge or say hi. I have to approach them n they just say what do want and then go back on there phone. Once they pass you the food they become Casper. Straight ghost. pOof. I went there the other day and they didn’t say ntn for 5 minutes then when I tried ordering the lady said were closed. Even thought there was 15 mins left and then they just stared. Didn’t even say sorry or have a good day. If you like being treated like sh*t then go here but if you have standards for yourself and want quality service go to sushi garden or sushi yoi up the street ;)

Food not that great. Both cashier and sushi chef are really rude which makes the food taste even worse. They don’t smile, they dont even acknowledge that a customer is here. I actually feel really uncomfortable being here cause they made me feel liken im not welcome And they’re always on the phone. What a shame. Their utensils have herpes and if I were you I’d think twice about coming here.

The sushi is good — standard. There’s one girl who works there who is kind of mean — but the guy they just hired is super friendly

These guys are SWAMPED. They can barely handle a lunch rush weekday. They have their heads down & the work to the bone. The food is good but be prepared to wait up to 15 min for your food even though there aren’t many seats to eat. They won’t take any orders ahead of time because they’re too busy so you’re better off making an order 30 min beforehand and picking up to go(which they do grudgingly). They may turn you down if it’s too busy. If you’re looking for a pleasant sit down a la carte ambience don’t come here. Otherwise very good. They’re just struggling with the work crowd with all the offices in the area.

Sushi at Kita has always been pretty average, but they seem to have slipped downhill a bit. It’s located by the sky train and downstairs of apartment buildings so they count on the convenience factor mostly. The staff who rung in my order on(2 different girls and on 2 different occasions now) were miserable. They also forgot my wasabi in my sashimi bento box.

I went in at 12 noon and had planned to purchase the $ 28 party platter for my family. I stood alone at the counter and not one of the four people behind the counter acknowledged me or said hello. The girl at the register was on the phone and didn’t even lookup. I stood there for several minutes and left. My daughter and I went next door to the Starbucks and we came back to Kita 15 minutes later. One of the four looked at me, said nothing and did not smile. I turned around and walked out immediately. I won’t be returning.

The only reason I come here is because of the spicy tuna/spicy salmon rolls — they come with a delicious spicy/sweet dipping sauce that goes perfect with the sushi. A girlfriend of mine showed me this place and that’s basically the only reason why I go. It’s a tiny restaurant that’s clean and decent, self serve hot tea, and the order doesn’t take too long at all. Prices are also ok. The staff however — particularly one chick, I found so rude. She seemed very impatient and when I had a question(not a million, literally ONE question) she rushed to answer and looked away as if she wished I wasn’t there. And when I came back to ask for an extra pair of chopsticks, she got defensive to say she had put a pair in there — when I actually just needed another set for my partner who was also eating. If it weren’t for the spicy tuna rolls I would never come back because I hate dealing with shitty customer service.

Solid 3.5, because it tastes good, not great, and not good, but great prices… ordered 2 specialty rolls for under $ 12 lol. Located off some skytrain station, just a block away. It’s another one of those Korean-owned sushi joints, though it’s a bit off from Sushi Town/Sushiholics. Still a casual place, high ceilings and friendly service. Ordered the Tornado Roll, lots of crab, avocado, cucumber but didnt’ think the spicy sauce was there. Tuna Tataki: good but the rice was a bit off just on this roll.

Skytrain Station Sushi I frequent this place due to its proximity to the Gilmore Skytrain station. It’s a small casual place which can seat no more than 10 people although most people do take out. There’s a good variety of unique rolls here — my faves being the deep fried California and tornado. It’s fresh and made to order. It can get really busy especially during the lunch rush or dinner time so I’d recommend placing your order by phone ahead of time. Value-wise, the specialty rolls can vary between $ 6 – 9 which is a bit on the higher side when comparing other Korean-owned sushi joints. The sushi is very good but you’re certainly paying a little extra for convenience. If you plan to sit in, it’s pretty much self serve — go to the counter to order and pay, tea is at a self-serve station, and the place is too small to have waitresses walking around. Final thoughts: I probably wouldn’t go too out of my way to try it out but if you’re in the neighborhood, check it out. There’s also free parking in the adjoining apartment building. The parking entrance is next to the Starbucks.

Larissa D is not wrong, the girl at the front tramways smiles like they are made of gold and in short supply. She did crack half a smile at my daughters, so there’s something under there. No shortage of wasabi as ginger. Bento box was excellent, The Panko deep fried salmon was nicley sauced. A petit cucumber squid salad was a nice creative touch. My very picky wife had no complaints and was actually pleasantly surprised.

I went in because I was in the neighbourhood. I wouldn’t drive to this place on purpose. The sushi was ok/average… There was nothing special about the dynamite roll I ordered. The reason why I’m rating it so low is because of their service. When if first came in the waitress was rude to me and told me to order on the counter. The three tables that were available were filthy!!! There were rice bits everywhere and a rag was sitting on one of the tables. I pretty much had to sit on the counter that I cleaned myself because the servers were bickering loudly across the restaurant the whole time I was there. Bad service!!! I didn’t leave a tip. Don’t go!!! unless you want people yelling at each other while you eat… And if you want to watch flies fight each other in the middle of the room.
