We wanted to eat ramen nearby but there was a line up. Then we walked over to a sushi restaurant nearby but there was also a line up so we then ended up here! This used to be Sushi Yo which I do miss. We decided to give this new restaurant a try as I did not want to wait in a line up hungry. We were seated right away. There was a banner outside the restaurant advertising purchases over $ 12 would receive two California rolls for free until November 30th. It turned out that the promotion is still going in December. That was a nice bonus. I decided to order the spicy fried chicken and my date ordered a sashimi platter as there would be more than enough carbs with the California rolls. I found my spicy fried chicken to be decent. The broccoli and carrot was cold. The rice was the same sushi rice and I found the portion to be small for the amount of chicken. Chicken was okay. It was not as crispy as I would have liked. It was a chewy exterior. The California rolls were well made and tasty. The sashimi was fresh. The service has some room for improvement. Staff were not refilling tea at a timely manner. The tea we were served was also barely warm. I would suggest that the restaurant serve a pot of freshly brewed tea for each table as a solution. Our server checked up on us very late into the meal to ask if the food was okay, but did not refill our empty tea cups until we asked for a refill. Overall, I was fed so that was the priority. I got a couple free rolls and that was good as well. I hope the service improves the next time I visit. It is nice that the area has some Korean food options as there are plenty of sushi restaurants nearby.

Hands down the best service out of every single restaurant I have ever been to in my entire life~! My father-in-law is one of the pickiest eaters I know of and he absolutely loves their sashimi; he is always raving about how fresh it is… The sushi is okay, nothing too excited but solid in the basics; no complaints… They make some great speciality dishes that put other sushi restaurants to shame… The only thing that their menu does not have are the«bento boxes», but honestly; why be average and typical??? So in short: if you want to go to a place where you can sit back and relax, not have to flag-down a waitress like a traffic control person, never worry about your tea cup going dry, be valued as a regular returning customer and have some solid food; then I would highly recommend that you try these guys out~!

Not very good. Special rolls weren’t amazing but they were amongst the most expensive rolls on the menu. Regular rolls were underwhelming and not worth the price on the menu. Wouldn’t come again.

Freaking LOVE this place!!! Super amazing prices and pretty great service!!! This place replaced my old favorite sushi place in Burnaby, like literally, so I was a little hesitant once these doors reopened. They’re missing a few things on their menu like Bento boxes and rice-less rolls that the other sushi place had, but they made up for it by having a grand opening deal.(2 free Cali rolls with $ 12 purchase for the table. NOWEXPIRED) Giving this place 5 stars because it freaking deserves it! BESTSUSHIINBURNABY BESTSUSHIVALUEINBURNABY

Sushi Giwa is one my favourite sushi restaurants because of the prices and quality of food! The servers are so friendly and we used to go to their other location, but now go here as its a bit closer. Would definitely recommend it, their roll roll combo is pretty good value for money and great to share, and salmon sashimi is always so fresh!

The first 5 times i went were great but the last 4 times no! Service sucks, food is good but service is slow and horrible. One time a girl came and asked me «would you like more tea?» my cup was still full. I hadn’t even taken 1 sip. Maybe look first? Last week I Waited 15 mins to have my order taken then 10 – 15 for my 2 California rolls to come. I only get ½ hr for lunch break so had to take it to go. They were busy so gave them benefit of the doubt and gave it another shot. today 15 mins no service so walked out. Will not be returning.

Being disappointed with the Sushi Giwa on Hastings and Holdom just up the road, I thought I would give this place a second chance by going to this new location. I am even more disappointed. First off I ordered oyster motoyaki«3 pieces — grilled oyster with creamy sauce and baked» which was a complete disaster. It was three tiny oysters crammed into one little dish… Topped with all things stringy TEXMEX cheese. No creamy sauce(just clear salty liquid)… No traditional baked mayo… And it was $ 5.95. I also ordered inari which you would think would be pretty hard to mess up, but the rice was hard and flavourless. My dining partner ordered the yakisoba which looked really good but was way too salty to eat. She complained and asked if she could get a bowl of rice or something to dial down the saltiness. The waitress didn’t even apologize and ended up charging us for the extra rice too. Overall I was not happy at all. I can see why advertising two free cali rolls if you spend $ 12 or more per table is attracting people to check this place out, but don’t be fooled. Theres a reason why!(The cali rolls were the only decent things!) Osaka and Uomo are way better and each half a block away on either side. Would never come back to this place. Just awful.

The BC rolls came with the salmon scales still completely intact which is gross. The beef in the beef teriyaki rolls were also flavorless. Chopped scallop roll and avocado rolls were mostly okay but the sushi rice was a bit mushy. Won’t come back unless I have to, but I’m lucky that Uomo next door is much better(but unfortunately not open today).
