Bronze Baxx Tanning Studio – McKenzie Towne

Normally I wouldn’t get a spray tan or any sort of fake tan for that matter, but this last weekend was an exception as I competed in my first male physique level fitness competition. In case you didn’t know tans are an absolute must for fitness competitors because it defines the muscles more prominently, creates the illusion of a slimmer profile and even covers up stretch marks. These are things fitness competitors want since they are judged on: muscularity, definition, proportion, symmetry and stage presentation.
I found out about Bronze Baxx Tanning through the NPAA (the fitness organization I competed with); they had a workshop back in March where they went through all the dos and don’ts of competing which included a portion on tanning. Their preferred vendor of choice was Bronze Baxx; the owner along with one of the managers were present and gave a quick spiel on what they offer along with a special competitors package option with coupons for additional products/​services. So when it came time for my competition tan there was really no reason for me not to book with Bronze Baxx Tanning. I booked through the manager directly as competitors were given some preferable treatment for scheduling as they had an important reputation to uphold with the NPAA as a preferred vendor. They currently have three Calgary locations and a location in Airdrie, so it was easy to book my two pre-​show tans. Working with a preferred vendor had the added benefit of them being aware of the show and athletic meet timelines. She also did a great job letting me know what I could ideally do to prepare and how I should come to my appointment. The information sheets given at the meet did an awesome job highlighting this as well. Overall very impressed with the organization.
When it comes to the actual tan/​studio/​processes I don’t have any base to compare things to as this was my first studio tanning experience, so the following observations are me being as objective as possible :). The studio itself looked very professional and clean, everything looked very new and up-​to-​date; I had no doubts about the quality of any of the equipment they used. Front desk was polite and had no problem acknowledging the appointment I booked weeks ago and getting me in right away. The spray tanning rooms and stand-​up UV booth rooms were also very well maintained and tidy. These rooms were also directly adjacent to each other for a smooth spray to stand-​up booth transfer process. The girl doing my spray was very efficient and good at directing me on how to move/​adjust. My only knock was she could talk a bit quick at times (hard to hear with all the noise) and also she walked in a bit quick as I was changing (she knocked, but walked in immediately after), could’ve easily caught me naked which would’ve been awkward lol…
During my second tan something had gone wrong (no one’s direct fault, just an accident) which resulted in a slight tan imperfection on my chest. From my perspective it was pretty minor, but one of the more senior girls at the front showed deep concern and did everything in her power to touch it up. She did a solid job and knew what she was doing because it was visibly better afterwards and I was good with the improvement. Even so, she wasn’t completely satisfied and got on the phone with the manager to discuss. Right away they offered for me to shower it off the following morning and to allow them to redo it. WOW, pretty outstanding service to go out of their way like that and offer to redo the tan the morning of the show. I wasn’t bothered enough by it to accept, but I was extremely impressed by them standing behind what they promise to offer and wanting to deliver a perfect tan. The manager even went out of her way to call me the following morning to see if I was coming in.
Overall and combined with that act of customer service excellence I can’t help but give them a 5/​5, really great to see a business stand behind their services to deliver a great experience!
