We popped in this liquor store to pick up some beverages on our way to a Halloween party. Opportunistically, the Crystal Head Vodka was on sale at the best price I have ever seen it at, and the bottle was definitely in keeping with the Halloween theme. They have a fabulous selection of beers and almost as many B.C. wines as what you will find at most B.C.liquor stores at very competitive prices. I think if you give them your Co-op number the purchase will be credited towards your total for the annual Co-op rebate. Pay us to drink, yes please!

Behold, alcohol drinkers: this is the best place to shop for alcohol in Calgary. Whether you’re gearing up for a raucous weekend with friends, looking for something heavy to drink alone in your basement(hey, I won’t judge, just keep the Dashboard Confessional quiet) or you’re looking for an awesome wine to give as a gift to snooty and discerning wine drinkers, Co-op Liquor has got you covered. First let’s talk about the beer fridge. In fact, let’s ONLY talk about the beer fridge, because when it comes to wine I’m not one to be giving wise council. Whether you’re a beer fanatic or a casual sipper of God’s elixir, you’re bound to find something you enjoy here. If you want something you recognize, you’ll find plenty here: Big Rock, Keith’s, Granville Island, Steamwhistle, Rickard’s, Sleeman’s, Kokanee and if you’re really desperate, Coors Lite. Oh, and if you just rolled in from Saskatchewan, we’ve got Lucky. You’re welcome. But if you’re like me and you want to try new things, this is the best place to do it. Microbreweries? Check. Fruli for the ladies? Check. Delerium Tremens? Check. Sapporro, Tiger, Lucky Buddha? Check. Rogue Dead Guy Ale? You betcha. Red Stripe, Newcastle, Fuller’s. it’s all here. And yes, I’ve purchased every single thing on that list here before — possibly in a single trip. One time my friend and I came here to look for a suitable beverage for my dad. We chose Zubr because it had a badass buffalo on it. Now every single time I go there I pick my dad up a Zubr. I don’t even know if he likes it. Bonus points because when something is on sale here, it’s actually sort of, kind of on sale. Sometimes I wonder if the cashiers here are actually old enough to work there. I like to joke around with them too, freak them out by calling them by their first names. One time, I made a slightly exaggerated series of grunting noises when inserting my debit card into their machine. It made the cashier laugh though, so I count it as a success. I guess these kids have seen it all. Regardless, there’s SO much variety here that if you don’t find something you want to drink you’re probably a Mormon.

I buy most of my wines here, they have a fairly good selection especially of my favourites from the Okanagan: Mission Hill, Quail’s Gate, Sumac Ridge, Grey Monk. They also stock a good variety of off-dry Italian and German whites, which my wife loves. The staff are friendly and helpful, so don’t expect wine snobs. If you can’t find what you want here, it’s probably from a small winery that only specialty boutiques carry.

The closest thing Calgary’s got to a LCBO store. It’s a weird thing, but sometimes I like to just head to liquor stores to peruse all the fine wines, the imported liquors, and the vast variety of bottles that are out on the market. I stumbled into this Liquor store over the weekend when I was in a crunch to pick up some wine and head over to a friend’s place. I am not exaggerating when I say this place is AMAZING! I haven’t seen selection like this since being back in Ontario! The bad news — I ended up being late to my friend’s get-together because there was SO many different types of liquor to look at!!! The good news — I brought a bottle of liquor that people thought was unavailable in Calgary! Boo Yeah!!!

Wow. WOW. This place isn’t half of what Bev-Mo(in the United States of FREEDOM) is, but it’s as good as it gets in Canada. I’ve seen half of the tequilas I have seen in the US and Mexico City, which is the most flattering thing I can say about a retailer that is dick smacked in the face(symbolically, people!) by our liquor control system that detests innovation. The beer fridge is just incredible, I’ve never seen so many unique beers north of the USF. Heck, they even have a beer merchandising supervisor. The prices? Don’t get me started on state intervention. I’ll be banned from this website if I do. But this place can have some decent«sales», y’know, $ 2 off a $ 40 two-four that costs $ 15 in Florida. I’ll take it. The best part? CASHBACKIFYOU’RE A CO-OPMEMBER!

One of the best, if not the top, liquor store in Calgary. The selection is massive and the prices range from high(for quality stuff) to low for cheap generic beer. We stopped in on a Saturday and caught a couple of samplings(wine and beer). The girl offering the Big Rock samples was generous and told us any Big Rock case of beer was $ 5 off. That’s a deal, so we added it to the shopping list. Really, you could spend a number of hours just going over their selection of liquor. They even have a lot of rare and imported beers, all kept cold in their walk-in cooler. This place is exceptional. If you need liquor, you need to check this place out…
