As a self-admitted chocoholic, I just can’t stay away. It is wrong, I know, but I JUSTLOVEIT! The best part is the quality. I always know what I am going to get — plan it Monday, buy it Friday! Yumm. Loving the new menu from Derrick– he is so creative. I am a bit of a seasonal«choco» — from Yule Logs to Happy Rabbit Day offerings — Love the dipped pretzels, the habinaro salt bars and the organic BC cherries dipped with Kirsch. OMG Some people go to the gym, others drink wine and eat chocolate. .. I do it all!

All of the locations contain the same line of products, but this location’s staff was just beyond helpful. My husband and I really enjoy the Habanero Sea-salt that is popular right now. There is the Rosemary infused chocolate with the Habanero sea-salt on the bottom, or a regular milk bar with Habanero sea-salt. The lady that was serving us was really great about explaining the difference between the two bars and even gave us some samples to take home with us. The products are always imaginative and beautifully packaged. We will keep going back for more!

The staff our pretentious, the price is ridiculous and the chocolates aren’t worth the price they’re asking for. Out of all the different icky flavours I only Like the Rum truffles. However I rather buy a bottle of Rum and Chocolate from a Liquor store instead. I think what erks me most is that none of the Chocolate is covered, sure theirs a sneeze guard… but at the end of the day it sits on the counter. Gross!!! When I asked the staff how long the chocolate had been sitting their she said the shelf life is a few months… just saying! None of the chocolate is made in house of fresh every day, truth be told the factory is at a different location By the stampede grounds… downstairs is a storage room(I’ve been their personally).

I can’t justify the price of the chocolates. I guess I’m not much of a chocolate snob. They have the factory downstairs, which is cool if you come on Tuesdays(?) to tour. They also make cool shaped chocolates and have some fantastic Olympic chocolate structures. However, the chocolate doesn’t really compare with others I’ve had. They have a nice variety, but nothing stood out. Go for the experience and have a free chocolate while you’re at it. It’s free so why not?

I hate going into chocolate stores because I am almost tempted to buy and eat something there, and this place you can smell blocks away. You walk in and you feel like you have entered a couture space for chocolate, many presentations are dressed in gold and have pretty bows. The man working there was very quick to offer chocolate to taste and I was very quick to accept his offer. They tasted very nice, rich but not bitter or sweet. My photos will show how everything is so well laid out; there are truffles, ganaches and chocolate pastes with tons of interiors. To celebrate the Stampede they even offer chocolate shaped like cowboy hats. Right now with the oncoming of Easter the place is excessive with rabbits and as fast as rabbits multiply I am sure the selections will too. Bernard Callebaut is known internationally of course for their chocolate stores with their factory located right here in Calgary.

The flagship store of Bernard Callebaut is located in the same building as the factory. It is a big space, with chocolate sculptures on the walls and metal molds lining display cases. When I visited today, the store was resplendent with Cowboy hats and Christmas themes, and I was feeling the season. There were chocolate santas with reindeer and the side display cases were stuffed full of truffles and caramels and cream fillings. I sighed and drooled: unfortunately good chocolate comes with a price tag! I did pick up some treats, and the lady at the till was very nice and let me grab a sample to snack on on my way out.

I shouldn’t have to tell you about the greatness that is Bernard Callebaut! It should come as no surprise to everyone that this place is heaven… chocolate heaven! They have everything in chocolate form and it makes me tingle just thinking about all the delicious, creamy chocolate they have. Now, I’m not usually a fan of chocolate, but when it comes to this place I’ll make an exception… or nine or ten. It’s really the creamiest, best chocolate I’ve ever eaten and it actually makes me think I could develop a problem. Every time I’ve gone into this location, the sales ladies are always so nice and friendly. They usually give me something to sample, which holds my craving over until I buy that little piece of heaven. I’ve been lucky enough to have my boyfriend buy me a couple of things from this place for no special reason. My heart melts(and my mouth waters) every time I see that gorgeous little gold box!

Look, I had NO intention of stepping foot in a Bernard Callebaut store BEFORE dinner, but it’s not my fault that the ONLY parking spot available on 17th Ave happened to be the one RIGHT in front of the store. Cut me some slack… PLEASE!!! I couldn’t help it. I dragged my friends inside with me to show them why Bernard is God to most women. Everything from chocolate dinosaurs to chocolate cowboy hats. Glass cases full of happiness; whether you like it milk, dark or white, it’s allllll there. Plus you know what’s cool? The fact that Bernard Callebaut is PROMINENTLY on the west coast. Don’t get me wrong, they have a couple stores in Ontario(London & Oakville) and even one in Chicago, but the fact that they don’t have a single one in Toronto and other affluent cities where you’d think they would have one, makes it THAT much more desirable. The gold boxes that Bernard Callebaut uses as packing are a perfect depiction of the goods inside; Little treasures. Treasures for your heart, treasures for your soul and tresures for your tastebuds.
