This is a pretty nice place, I definitely prefer it to Memory Express. For one the staff don’t automatically assume you have no idea what you’re doing and they have a reasonable selection. They actually carry older parts and accessories, something that Memory Express is really bad at. They have a whole bunch of things that you won’t see regularly anywhere as well. I built a computer with old hardware to play DOS games for about $ 20 from parts these guys salvaged. I also found a good 19″ lcd to go beside my main one; Memory Express doesn’t even offer non-widescreen monitors any more. They don’t have the slick store and website that Memory Express so I imagine a lot of people overlook it. I definitely recommend taking a look if you’re looking for anything computer related, especially if you didn’t have a good experience at Memex.

In this town where specialized computer parts are concerned, pretty much everyone knows about Memory Express, and then there’s everyone else. But among those are the 2 Computer Rack stores in Calgary(and the 3rd in Toronto), a friendly association of stores that also knows computer parts and knows them well. While not admittedly having the same scale as Memory, they do have an interesting selection of components and parts that most stores don’t seem to carry. More importantly, they also have a better selection on individual parts and miscellaneous connections than pretty much any computer store in the city, at better overall pricing as well. Joel, in the South store, is pretty much a font of knowledge, as he runs the business with his family and staff. His recommendations are treated by a fair number of techs in the city like gold. Overall, I like the store, and it has the personal touch to everything. It’s in a new location with an especially interesting toy store next door, which is for another review. PS: He also offers standard computer services like custom builds, virus removal and repairs, all at reasonable pricing. #45 of Unilocal’s 30-Day review Challenge

I went here a week ago to get a screen for a laptop. I first phoned and they said they could get the particular screen I needed the next day. I said great and they told me to come down and pre pay for it so they can put in the order. I came down asap, paid for it and the guy said«we’ll give you a call in the morning when its here.» I thought awesome! What great service! I was so looking forward to this screen cause I could not find it anywheres else! The next day it was noon-no call. I waited till 2pm, called the guy and he said he didnt know why it didnt come in but would phone when it came in. That night-no call. I waited for the morning till around noon-once again no call. My wife called the guy in the afternoon and the fellow seemed to be rude and irritated with her according to her story. So I phoned the guy and asked what was going on with this screen. He couldnt tell me so I said if the screen wasnt here by the next day that I was just going to ask for a refund and try elsewheres. He then said in a rude tone that I could come in right now and get my money back. I told him this sounded like a good idea since he put it that way and that I would be in asap to get my money back. 20 minutes later he phones and magically the screen came in ready to be picked up. After going through all these games, getting smart remarks and getting a screen that had a dead pixel I will NEVER return here again for any computer needs! When a store promises over night service and gets mad at the customer for THEIR mistakes its a store that needs a big review from the higher ups!

Good place for parts. I find these guys to be reasonably priced and always looking to help. Great for memory, hd’s, screens, accessories etc.
