Everyone here is friendly and nice. Every time I come in their produce is fresh and well laid out. Items here are a bit on the pricey side but that’s because the quality of their food is good. Parking is a bit tough to find but there is often an open street stall or you can take your chance with the Safeway lot across the street(I usually go to Safeway first then Sunnyside after so you aren’t breaking any rules)

Nice little market in Kensington! It reminds me of a smaller version of Amaranth. What attracted me was the beautiful, bright red and firm tomato on the vine! So gorgeous! We went inside the market and there was a deli there. They have soup, bread, and interesting pastries both savory and sweet. I bought some of the savory croissants with shrimp, cauliflower and cheese with pea shoots as a garnish and I also bought a sweet croissant with blueberry, mango and frangipane. All were very delicious! The rest of the market has lots of various organic fruits and vegetables. We bought a basket of apricots fresh from BC. Very ripe and sweet!

I believe we were only here once so far, but I would love to check them out again next Kensington visit! Great location, friendly people there and they have some nice food for the health-conscious :)

We stopped in to get baked goods and coffee/juice before starting our road trip back toward Seattle. They have a lovely bakery counter near the front with both sweet and savory baked goods. The savory is key — not every place has these kinds of things, and not everyone in my house likes sweets for breakfast(that’s not me, but I don’t judge). The coffee was pretty good, but we grabbed a bottle of orange juice in the little fridge near the front, and it was the best OJ I’ve had in a LONG time. If I lived in Calgary, I’d be in that little market all the time for this and that.

Stumbled in here by chance just due to where we parked! I was so impressed! From the bulk product to the spices to the bakery to the freezer section to the produce! Sure, it will be a bit pricier than normal grocers but totally worth it in my opinion! I got a lot of stuff, beautiful organic avocados, tumeric root, bison pepperoni sticks, etc, etc! They have soap, shampoo, everything! The place was large but manageable, clean and staff friendly at the til. I cannot wait to go back!

For the size of this tiny place, it has pretty good selection. There’s a little bit of everything from produce to soaps. The prices are okay. You can expect to overpay just as much as you would at Community Natural Foods or some other such place, but that’s just par for the course. The staff are friendly and the store is always clean & well-stocked. The check out situation is always a bit awkward & cramped, but it is a small place, so there’s not much that could be done to improve it.

One of the top few businesses in Sunnyside. If you appreciate local first, come here. Not the greatest volume(the promissory illusion of wide selection and the grim reality of high volume are the trappings of multinational corporate food interfaces, anyway) the selection required to live very well indeed! Produce is excellent and as local as can be(seasonal demands by the local market of course determine the presentation of stuff which cannot be locally produced yet is desired by the customers). The store seems to be saddled with the ‘health’ baggage of corporate attack angles. It’s not a health food store, it’s a LOCAL grocer! I buy most of my ingredients here. Specialty items such as particular spices and cuts/cures of meat have to be purchased at specialty stores. But Sunnyside Market is the heart and soul of my cooking. Taking into account the adage ‘you are what you eat’, I am beginning to be primarily an expression of this place, mixed with water…

I popped into Sunnyside Market yesterday and remembered how much I enjoyed shopping there when I lived downtown. In essence, it’s a teeny-tiny«health food» store with everything from fresh produce to instant noodles to bulk foods to nutritional supplements. There are a couple of things I always buy here when I’m in the area: — Que Pasa corn tortillas(in the freezer). I live alone and can’t eat a package of fresh corn tortillas before they go bad, so Que Pasa’s frozen ones are a not-too-distant second-best. — Bulk foods! Great selection of dried beans and lentils, nuts(in the fridges– right on!) and sweet treats like cereals and snack mixes… at the right price. — Fresh herbs sources as locally as possible– they had fresh chocolate mint yesterday, as well as huge packages of delish-looking basil(pesto, here I come!). — Flax oil for a little health kick in my morning smoothies. The staff here have always been very helpful(I can’t count the number of times they’ve gone in the back looking for banana chips for me!) and the store is very eco-minded(bring your own bags, powered by Bullfrog, etc.). While prices may be slightly higher than at Community Natural Foods, they’re infinitely lower than at Amaranth AND Sunnyside Market is right beside the C-Train! That’s the price of green convenience!

After having read Dinah G.‘s review on Sunnyside Natural Market, I decided to make my way over and have a looksee for myself. Boy oh BOY was I impressed! This place is an absolute gem!!! They’ve got everything from fresh produce to bulk foods, and their selection is unparallelled! Not only do they carry organic foods, breads, ingredients, jams and teas, they also have a wide array of gluten free and vegan goods. I even saw Red Quinoa here, which I’ve never seen anywhere else!!! The prices are pretty reasonable compared to other whole food stores and the location is prime. It’s ride in the heart of Kensington, and for all you C-Train riders, it’s just left(west) of the Sunnyside C-Train stop. I absolutely LOVE this store. I’m already planning a second visit for later on in the week :)

Sunnyside Natural Market would be a mini orgasm for the Vancouver’s East Van community; but instead it is officially Kensington’s mini orgasm. Sunnyside is a family owned whole foods market specializing in local, organic and natural products. Its fresh produce is from Alberta and British Columbia and Sunnyside ensures great prices for its customers. The prices I found for organic produce were quite comparable and sometimes even much cheaper than the prices at the Farmers market. The Front of SNM was decorated with pumpkins before Halloween this year, an automatic welcoming when entering the store. Location is very close to train terminal, right across from Kensington Safeway and I found the store to be exceptional clean and very well organized. SNM also has a nice vitamin supplement section and a great Doctor Bronner area with all my personal classic liquid soap favorites. If anything, just come in to get smiles from sun kissed friendly staff and experience an automatic feeling of pure health.

Sunnyside is a quaint little store with kind-hearted staff. Literally, 4 isles of food and a bit of produce. Not enough to fill all of my natural food needs but awesome for anyone living in the Kensington area or looking to build a picnic on the way to Riley Park. Much of the produce is locally grown and organic. The joint is also wind powered. If you think of it more as a convenience store rather than a market, there is absolutely nothing more that you could ask.
