Specialties

The New Gallery is an active artist-run centre for the presentation and promotion of contemporary art in Calgary. Through exhibitions, performances, discussions and educational resources, The New Gallery stimulates critical discourse, recognizes diversity, develops collaborative networks and promotes a public appreciation of current art practices.

History

Established in 1975.

The Clouds & Water Gallery and Visual Production Society (currently operating as The New Gallery) is a collaborative, artist-run organization. Registered in 1975 as a not-for-profit society, TNG has been actively supporting independent artistic exploration ever since, through a program of free public exhibitions and events, transparent administrative policies and an open, welcoming environment.

TNG strives to both reflect and challenge the prevailing cultural landscape in Calgary. The organization encourages individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds to become actively involved in independent cultural production. Through ongoing community outreach initiatives, TNG also seeks to increase public awareness of the organization, its history, its members and their work. As well TNG actively promotes diversity initiatives to facilitate equitable access at all levels of the organization and well-balanced participation in all of its programs.
