As Calgary’s only full-​service, year-​round paddlesports shop we feature friendly service and great advice, an on-​site repair and outfitting centre, boat and equipment rentals and the best product lines available. It is all in our 5000 sqft facility in Bowness.

Undercurrents staff are the true paddlesports experts. In fact, they are all instructors, guides or enthusiasts! Each is knowledgeable and experienced in multiple disciplines of paddlesports. Our staff have been carefully chosen for their enthusiasm and their ability to give great advice and service. They are happy to help you sort through our huge selection of canoes, kayaks, SUP boards and gear to choose the best product for your use.

We also rent boats, boards and gear. We have lessons offered in-​store. And, Undercurrents is the only spot in southern Alberta with a full repair bay and an artisan to repair all types of boats & boards. We fix gear, too.

History

Established in 2000.

Undercurrents was started by Tony Palmer and Gord Ferguson to meet Calgary’s need for a paddlesports specialty retailer. Our founding philosophy, which continues today, is «Everything Paddlesports!»

Originally located on Bowness Road in Montgomery, we moved 2 kilomenters west to our current location on «Mainstreet Bowness» in 2005. At the same time, Gord sold his share in the business, but still hangs around from time to time. Tony, and his wife Donna George, continue to operate Undercurrents the way it was founded.
