I just love the Chester location of Julien’s and always make a point of stopping in when I’m in Chester! As you walk in, the smell of fresh bread and pastries just brings water to your mouth. They have a great selection of croissants, pain au chocolat and other pastries as well as daily breads. They also offer an amazing lunch and breakfast fare at a reasonable price.

Julien’s is a marvellous bakery, with great breads and pastries, some good deli cheese and meat items, and serves breakfast and light lunch. Every summer in Chester I look forward to visiting Julien’s.

The original Julien’s is here in Chester, and is a great place to grab lunch if you’re in town. It’s not just a bakery — although the baked goods are all superb. You’ll also find sandwiches, samosas, a full coffee menu, great Sunday brunch options. On the shelves around the store you can pick up jams and preserves made locally, as well as other Chester goodies to remember your visit by. As I paid for my pastry(delicious, btw) the owner mentioned that the baker in back had just completed something like her 1,100th Christmas stolen — incredible! These are obviously holiday must-haves for many locals, and the sample piece I had at the counter showed me why. Yum. The only issue is that they’re $ 15 – 20 dollars each, yikes! That’s why I bake some things at home…

Julien’s French Bakery. This is where it all started, here in Chester. The Original French Bakery and Pastry Shop. If you find your way to Chester along the South Shore, make a point of stopping into the Bakery. You will be welcomed with a friendly smile, and the smell of fresh bread and coffee brewing. There are numerous tables, some bistro style, or if there in the summer, sit out on the patio, and take in all the action along the street. Try their famous Lobster Sandwich, I did, they are known for it. Mornings are usually busy at Julien’s, everyone going for their fresh coffee and home made bagels, bread, muffins, croissants, the list goes on. They offer a variety of lunch specials, all good. One favorite of mine is the salmon with cream cheese, capers on a homemade bagel. Or maybe you will be lucky enough to be there on pizza day. Homemade pizza, like chicken with pesto sauce. I am getting hungry now, lol The deserts, all look so good, it is hard to choose. I have had the chocolate cake, a few times. It is all good, some of them look too good to eat. We have Didier Julien(Master Baker/Owner), to thank for all these wonderful breads and pastries. I have to tell you they have a section of speciality cheeses to go with your bread, or maybe you would like their homemade jams. I would think it is hard to not like what you will experience here at Julien’s. Treat Yourself. The Early Bird Get the Prize Here. I pre-order at Christmas, It really is a must. Laura Mulrooney, the owner, is usually there with a smile on, greeting everyone by name. It really is one of those places when you go in, you feel at home. You can find their breads in Halifax at their location in the Hydostone Market, and The Halifax Farmers Market.
