Home cooked delicious Caribbean food. We had the curried goat and jerk chicken with a side of dumplings. Huge servings full of flavour. The restaurant was brightly painted. Everyone was super friendly and we felt at home. I can’t wait to come back and try the Red Pea Soup.

Best Caribbean food in the city. After moving to Edmonton from Toronto, I did my best to seek out Caribbean restaurants and I had to search all corners of the city to find the few that I did. Once I found A Yah Mi Deh, I stopped searching. It’s quite a trek to come all the way to Beverly, but it’s worth it. I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve had here and stand outs for me are the escoveitched fish, curry goat, and the A Yah Mi Deh chicken. Throw a side of dumplings and cole slaw and you’ll be stuffed for the rest of the day. My only problem is that if I come later in the day, they never have dumplings left. An I love the dumplings. Go here and go often.

The best jerk chicken hands down! Always order extra gravy… it’s so good. Love the chicken curry, pork curry and curry veggies. Patties are great too. I have to eat one while I’m waiting for my take out. They used to make veggie patties. They were great but not well received i guess. Keep wanting to try the snapper but need my jerk chicken fix every time i go. Maybe one day!

Yahhhhhhh man, I think this is the first time I’ve had Jamaican/Caribbean food in town. A co-worker and I went to check out A Yah Mi Deh for a lazy Friday lunch. The place is actually quite big with lots of tables and booths further in the back. It’s an order at the counter style restaurant but they do bring out your plates when they’re ready. The place has a relaxed, easy going vibe to it with the Jamaican yellow and green colours plastered on the walls(along with a few Usain Bolt pictures). We liked the Caribbean style beats they had on in the background. It is pretty bare though, just your minimal chairs and tables. A little warmth would help make it cozier. We decided to go big and ordered large sizes for both of our meals: — Curry goat($ 14.25 large) — very flavourful, the goat was spiced to perfection and I just wanted more. Seriously, you can’t go wrong with goat! We got the peas n’ rice(instead of plain old white rice), which was absolutely delicious. I don’t know what’s in this(peas apparently) but I could eat this on it’s own if I had to. We chose the plantain as our side and it came with two good sized pieces, yuuuuuuuum. — Jerk chicken($ 15.50 large) — jerk chicken with peas n’ rice and vegetables. A decent mixture of carrots and choy(bok choy maybe?). Unfortunately, the jerk chicken was a bit on the dry side and could have used more spice/sauce on it. I thought this would have been much better than it was. — Mango carrot($ 3.50) — you get 100% of your Vitamin C from this drink. Wow. The mango and carrot actually balances each other nicely. Refreshing and not too sweet. — Pineapple guava($ 3.50) — much more sweeter but it was refreshing. Good experience for our first try of Jamaican food. A Yah Mi Deh has some strange hours but if you can make it in time and don’t mind the long drive to the ghetto east side, definitely check them out. Their ackee & saltfish and escoveitched fish dishes intrigue me. I’ll have to check those out next time!

Good jerk chicken, but nothing compared to the real thing, if you have ever been to Jamaica. I found the place to be grimy and divey. If I ever went to give this place a second shot, I would definitely get takeout, not sit down there.

Absolute love this place! Hubby and I had been searching for a decent West Indian food and bakery and this one can hardly be described as ‘decent’; it’s highly recommended! Not only are the food portions so big that we can hardly finish a regular meal in one sitting, the food itself is delicious and fresh each time! We’ve tried everything from the oxtail meal to the cow-heel soup, roti and fish and each meal has been pleasantly satisfying. The staff are very kind and approachable. Their baked good are as delectable as the main courses are sumptuous. Prices are relatively standard for what most ethnic restaurants charge in Alberta but given the flavor and the freshness of each meal, I have no complaints at all!

For dinner tonight my boyfriend and I wanted to try a new restaurant, so we decided to come to A Yah Mi Deh! My boyfriend chose jerk chicken and I had the jerk pork. Both of our meals came with red beans and rice and an extra side. The restaurant was out of dumplings so I got a side of vegetables. My jerk pork was delicious but I didn’t expect it to be so spicy! Except for the vegetables, the portions of rice and meat were more than enough; I ended up taking the rest of my meal home. My boyfriend and I also tried the beef patties and black rum cake. The beef patties were hot and savory. The black rum cake had a strong rum flavor, which wasn’t bad, but I thought it was a bit dry. Overall, we were glad we came here and had a good dining experience. We will definitely be back to get more beef patties!

On Friday we were cruising around looking for a good place to eat on 118 Ave and I spotted A Yah Mi Deh! I knew I was going to have the jerk chicken before I even walked in, but everything on the menu looked good! My wife had the jerk pork. The ladies behind the counter were friendly and helpful, and we paid at the counter after we placed our order. You have the option to do takeout, or to sit down, which we did. The portions were huge and I thought the price was great. And the food? Amazing! My mouth is watering just thinking about it. I can’t wait to go back! I thought that the spice level was perfect and not outrageously hot. The pork seemed a little spicier than the chicken, and they were both delicious. I had the rice and peas(beans) and steamed vegetables for sides. Their potato salad was really good also. It’s obviously a popular choice with the Jamaican/Caribbean community. Everyone there was having a great time and we really enjoyed our experience. We will be back!

Best Jerk chicken ever, would like to try the rest of the menu but cant seem to get past the jerk chicken. Side orders run out at times and have had to chose different ones.

I really liked this spot. Jamaican music playing in background, very nice and welcoming. All around, good homemade Jamaican food. Lunch specials are on point. $ 7.50 for the daily lunch special. My favorite is the Jamaican jerk chicken with plantains. Sooo good. Get a ginger beer(non alcoholic beverage) or a Malta(Jamaican traditional soda) to wash the meal down with. Very comfortable and relaxing of an establishment. A must if you’re in the area

Mmm, I love the food. Delicious and very good portions. Not the greatest ambience, but the food is always awesome! And the staff are very courteous and friendly.
