Update: We keep coming back. The kibbeh and pita are outstanding! My go to meal has been the falafel plate. The falafel is lighter in texture and well seasoned. I’ve enjoyed it everytime I’ve had it. Yum! We have also recently ordered the cheese ajeen. It was delicious: fresh out of the oven and full of cheese.

The kibby is amazing and the pita is to DIE for. I love that combo and it is now my staple fair. I am not a falafel fan but they make a falafel that I can eat.

We love Al Salam! It’s the best last minute dinner decision we make time and time again. You know those days when it’s 7:00, there’s nothing in the house and you’re ravenously hungry? Al Salam hits the spot every time. We always get the Shawarma plate(either chicken or beef) and it’s often enough food for leftover lunch the next day. Everything is delicious, the pitas are hot out of the oven and the garlic sauce is unreal. There is usually only one person waiting tables but the service is fast and efficient. I might not suggest it for a first date as the atmosphere is leaves a little to be desired but we go for the food and we’re never disappointed. Plus, because it’s attached to a bakery/grocery store, you can pick up more yummy pitas to go.

Come here for lunch regularly sometimes even get take out for dinner. The food always tastes the same and is absolutely delicious in comparison to any other restaurant in the city with similar style of food. One of the reason I always go back is for the chicken Shwarma wrap or even the plate… as well as the service is so fast and during busy work days it’s nice to eat a real meal within the hour lunch break and not rush price wise it’s average a little High but that’s okay

We were introduced to Al Salam pita by friends, we live out of town so having ethnic Arabic food is not easy to be had. First impression is like wow it’s empty, you are seated right away by nice lady or a gentleman one time, they take your order and it’s relevantly quick to arrive. I always have the chicken Shawrma and it comes with salad, rice, hummus, and the delicious garlic dip and a hot right of the oven pita bread. I always order the yogurt drink and the meal is to die for. I look forward our trips to the city for a nice treat at al Salam pita. Tabbouleh and waraq areesh are yummy too, tabbouleh is sala mixed with bulgar and waraq areesh is grapes leaves stuffed with rice and meats and marinated in oil and some goodness: D.

Absolutely the only 5 star meal in town for $ 15. Always my favorite and never disappointed.

Just had an amazing Falafel. Order was quick, fresh and delicious. The pita was soft and moist, the falafel was creamy and rich with flavour. Onions were strong with a slight crunch, the hummus full of garlic and creamy as well. I took it to go and could smell the wonderful aroma through the bag. It is exactly what I wanted and needed from this place. They had a good selection of import food items and the staff for the brief period I was in the store was friendly and helpful.

I love this place. I live in st albert and I don’t mind the drive because the food is that good. I usually get a platter which comes with perfectly cooked rice. The best hummus ever. The meat of your choice drizzled with tahini sauce onions and parsley, fatoush salad, a delicious fresh stone baked pita which its fluffy delicate and delicious and the best of all a dollop of delicious heavenly garlic sauce. I usually switch the fatoush for tabouli which is a lemony parley onion and wheat salad. The portions are big and the meat it’s always so well seasoned not overpowering but full. of flavor. The have a bunch of drinks that you go and choose from their fridge, they have the classics and also different Arabic pop and juice. Also they are always playing awesome Lebanese music videos which let me tell you are like mini movies with cool and dramatic story lines. Amazing wardrobe and even credits at the end. This place has good food and no pretensions. I love it.

Whenever I come here I tend to get the same thing every time, chicken shawarma. It’s really good and comes with rice, salad, pita bread, hummus and another kind of creamy dip. I live close by, so I just order my food to go. I’ve dined inside just once and also had sheesha. The dining area is clean. I’ve never bought anything from the deli or bakery, so I can’t comment on that. Customer service is good.

Tried this place today because I was nearby and the Unilocal reviews were promising. I wasn’t thrilled. The staff are friendly. But all I wanted was a take out plate. It is definitely not clear where to order or wait. I felt like I was«in the way» while I waited for my food. The food itself was pricey and nothing to write home about. I had the chicken shwarma(sp.?) plate and my chicken was SUPERDRY. The rice seemed old and the salad lacked flavor. The best part was the pita and the dips. I would maybe go back and sit down, give the restaurant a try, but I wouldn’t recommend it to people based on this experience. Plus $ 15 for one meal seems like a lot, especially when the food wasn’t amazing.

I picked this place because it was a top rated donair place close by my house. Never been before and employees are very friendly. Ordered donair on pita with chips. Between the pickles, hummus and beef, it was so SALTY! Wow no joke, burned my lips. Also, I’m pregnant and could eat another pita right now.

Great service and the mixed platter is super filling!!! The wrap(falafel) was tasty but portion was a little smaller than I expected. Overall a great experience and the freshly made pita was phenomenal. Highly recommend!

Pretty good. Been going here for like three years. The old owners had way better tasting food but still good ! The wait times for the food can be a bit even if no one is there.

One of the best places to get authentic middle eastern food. The pittas alone are worth stoping by for.

I’ve been here twice– once for a pita to go, and once for a sit down meal. The take-out was quick and totally delicious. There was bit of a language barrier with the chef but he ended up nailing it anyway. When we came to sit down in a group I found the service was pretty slow(i.e. filling up our waters, bringing extra peppers, etc) but each of us got a «platter» with a salad, starch, meat, pita and dip on it. So delicious. So very, very, delicious. And extremely reasonably priced. The casual attitude in this place takes some getting used to, but once you embrace it this place is pretty great.

Interestingly enough, Russell’s review from 2013 mentioned a «friend» who took him there … that friend was me :) I’ve been eating here for the last 10 years(back when it was Pita the Great) and the food is always fresh — especially the pitas. I’d highly recommend the Chicken Kabob platter(sub the hummus for extra garlic sauce) and try swapping the fatoush salad for the tabouli salad!

An amazing little gem in the south side, this place has great food and superb pita cooking in a real brick oven in front of you. Their food is always fresh and their service is friendly and quick. I really like their fresh home made felafel and their fresh baked topped pizza style pita breads are great too. Definitely the best felafel in the city! Awesome little family business

This is a donair city. There seems to be a donair restaurant every few blocks or so. And donairs generally mean gross meat, standard Subway toppings and sweet sauce. In some other cities across Canada, shawarmas are more common than donairs — just not here for whatever reason. My understanding is that a shawarma is basically a donair but with a specific combination of Middle Eastern ingredients and a savoury sauce, rather than a sweet sauce. I much prefer it to a donair and it took me a while to find a place that offered them in the city. But now I have. And it was excellent. The place is a combination of a grocery store and a small restaurant. You can either order your food to go or sit down at a table. You can also have your food in a wrap, or served loose on a plate if you prefer. It’s a very informal atmosphere and a good place to go if you’re looking for a quick bite to eat or for some take-out.
