My 2 year old son who was petrified about getting his hair cut after a bad run with an ear infection and an ENT poking around but he did amazing here. The first attempt at taking him was a failure, couldn’t get him out of the car. He was in tantrum mode and I decided it wasn’t worth it to force him in. Round two was a success! They have cool power wheel like vehicles they can choose from to sit in and toy«incentives» you can buy at the end. Totally worth every penny!

We have been taking our son to Beaners at Mayfield Common location for the last 4 ½ years and we have always had exceptional service. His stylist Zafreen is friendly and patient with our son and constantly gives a perfect hair cut! The fun ride on seats and cartoons are a great distraction for the children. Thank you for the great service and I would definitely recommend this location based on our wonderful experiences.

I have been cutting my daughters hair for the first 5 years of her life and decided it was time to have a professional do it.(I am not a professional by any means — I just like cutting her hair). I read some previous reviews here and did see a low rating but like to be my own judge. Our appointment was booked and we arrived on time to end up waiting 10 minutes as there was only one stylist. I realize it doesn’t seem like a lot but 10 mins to a 5-year old is quite a long time. She gets in the Barbie jeep chair(which was filthy) and the stylist asks what I wanted. My daughter had shoulder length straight hair(very easy to cut which is why I’ve gotten away with it for so long) and I asked for a bob type length to be in line with her chin. After 10 minutes of choppy work, she asks what I thought. I looked and it was 2 inches longer than her chin and uneven. I asked for her to shorten it up and make it a bit more even. Another 10 minutes(and there are now 2 more kids waiting to get their hair done) and she dries the hair. It cost $ 25(which I don’t mind paying if the service is worth it) but when I got home I really looked at the hair. It was amazingly uneven and very choppy. I was VERY disappointed in this experience. Too much money, dirty place, stylist doesn’t listen and they over book. I will continue to cut the hair myself.

Ok concept. With most service oriented industries level of quality varies depending on the service person you get. We went to Windermere location to give my one year old son his first haircut. We were assigned a random hairdresser who asked what cut we were looking for. I shrugged as I hadn’t named it. She suggested«short and spiky?» I agreed… Assuming«short» meant«basic trim.» Never assume with a hairdresser man. Before I’d processed what was happening, she had half his head In a buzz cut. Had she probed ever the slightest bit further, it would have come to light that I abhor the use of clippers and insist on scissor cut only for the basic trim I had in mind; that my son *HAD* staggeringly beautiful, soft blond hair that I took great pride in; that he merely needed a bit of a trim to tidy up his ends after a year of growth. I was not at my peak as I hadn’t hit the adjacent Tim horton’s yet which I accept responsibility for; I do not believe it was thusly warranted to buzz my son’s hair off without further ado. My son is now, for the most part, bald. It is December and we are about to embark on the cold edmonton winter. He may have to wear a hat everywhere he goes(likely indoor and out) for the next number of months. I called to complain when we returned home and was told protocol dictates that the hairdresser discuss lengths of grade of clipper shears before embarking on any buzzing. Had any mention whatsoever been made to me of a clipper in the first place I would have refused. Notwithstanding, I don’t believe I recieved an apology; I was left un satisfied by the staff member I spoke with as well as the hairdresser. I will never, ever, ever use beaners again.

Our son has been going here since his first haircut. He always enjoys it, and his big sister gets a kick out of the ball pit while she waits. The selection of hair care products is great, too; we got an amazing Knot Genie that works wonders, and some effective cradle cap shampoo also.

We took our daughter for her very first haircut to Beaners in Mayfield Common. I had heard rave things from other Moms in my Mom’s group… though, they had all been to different locations than this one. None the less, we were optimistic! Upon arriving, we had to wait approximately 10 minutes for our scheduled appointment time. Not really too long of a wait, but they have shelves and shelves of overpriced cheap toys for sale that made it difficult to keep my toddler sitting. My daughter was 2 ½ at the time and this was her very first hair cut as she didn’t even have hair until 2!(Quite typical for red heads…) Anyway, we asked for advice on the haircut as our daughter has issues with hair matting in the back… even 20 minutes after washing and using detangler. We weren’t given any suggestions for how to better manager her hair nor did they suggest any of their products and I had noticed several detangling products in their display shelves. We gave the hair dresser complete freedom as to what haircut she thought would help my daughter’s hair matting problem in the back. She chose to make layers… which in the end has resulted in further matting problems. After talking with dozens and dozens of Moms who have had similar problems with slow hair growing in, they all told me that her hair needs to grow out to one length so that I can ponytail it to prevent matting throughout the day while her hair continues to grow in(especially as she still has baby hair). The chair that my daughter sat in was a yellow duck — great idea — but filthy! She wanted to sit in the pink barbie car and thank god there was a little boy in it because when I examined it after he had gotten out — it was as dirty as a toy at the playground! I could not believe the level of dirtiness of the vehicles and animals the kids were expected to sit in… You certainly wouldn’t want to be wearing white! We’re not giving up on Beaners altogether; however, next time we will be trying the St. Albert location instead. We definitely will not be returning to the Mayfield Common location.
