My husband and I were in the market for a new TV stand and couldn’t really find anything on the IKEA website that we thought would fit our space. Never having shopped at JYSK before, I decided to have a glance at the website. We saw something that was the right size and cheaper than IKEA(should have been the first warning sign) so we headed to the West End store to pick it up. The store is quite large and bland. Tons of those generic«CAFE» paintings and pictures of Paris that people buy for some reason, basic shower curtains, candles, place mats and lots of other basic house stuff. We found it odd that the TV stand we were interested in wasn’t displayed on the floor, but on the wall way above our height, so we had to stand back and crane our necks up to look at it. It looked pretty cheap and we hesitated, but we really hated our old TV stand so we decided to go ahead with it. Once we got it home and took it out of the box we realized just how cheap it was. Very poor materials that looked like it would come apart if we looked at it the wrong way. After putting it mostly together, it cracked when we put one of the screws in it. Thus began the process of taking it apart so we could return it ASAP. We returned it to a different store and it was a very simple process. I would definitely never buy furniture here again. I think it’s only good for people just starting out who don’t have much of a budget, students, kids rooms, etc. Good if you’re in the market for storage boxes or massive amounts of tea lights.

I was intrigued by JYSK when I first got to Canada, and when I made the plunge at last and checked one out, I was pleasantly surprised. Like IKEA, as several folks have said, but cheaper and smaller. My favorite thing here are their small white wall shelves. They’re more like little ledges, but I’ve bought about 10 of them, and have them all over the house, because they come in so handy! In my office/craft room, I have my rubber stamps on them. In the kitchen, I have them two or three of them near my huge spice rack for more additions– peppers in packaging, cardamom pods, juniper berries, etc. You can fit one or two bottles on them too if you’ve anchored them, just not too many, and make sure the bottles aren’t too heavy. Plus they’re SUPER cheap! I love their outdoor items like welcome mats and garden doo-dads. They have the little portable greenhouse enclosures to start your plants indoors, and pots, and little lanterns, and they won’t set you back too much. I wanted a really nice bright white shower curtain to replace the crummy one our landlord had downstairs, and got a nice waffle-pattern here for about $ 19.99. Plus they also have the bathmats and cheap accessories to go with. In addition, washbaskets, draperies, the newfangled window«panels» to cover your windows instead of curtains or drapes(those look intriguing. I’d like to try them in our next place…), and all sorts of accessories like artwork, candles, feng shui coffee table gee-gaws, and mirrors. I probably won’t invest money in a mattress from here, but we’ve been considering investing in a bed for a guest space downstairs. So when the time comes, we may go here first for a bedframe. Very reasonable deals on those. Basically, this place is a college student’s wet dream. Lots of cheap stuff for dorm rooms or first apartments that won’t set you back much. And those of us who are past that stage still need bargains once in a while. Check it out!

I was really excited to go into JYSK the first time I went. I had looked at the website and fell in love with some stuff. It seemed like a cheaper version of IKEA(if that is even possible). They have everything for your home and garden available! They have some really nice curtains for about $ 20 and they have rods and finials and all accessories. I like the furniture they have, but it seems a little cheap in the quality department. That is my main complaint about JYSK, and is why I don’t shop here very often and why the initial excitement wore off quickly. I wouldn’t put a lot of money into JYSK, but I would suggest it for small things that are okay to buy if they quality is lacking(like placemats, occasional blankets and picture frames).

JYSK is a bed, bath and home store that sells inexpensive products. Here you will find furniture made of untreated wood; bedding and towels; kitchen accessories and décor items. Everything is really inexpensive, and unfortunately is of poor quality. Some items such as cushions and placemats look cute, but they are made of synthetic materials and are not very durable. I have bought several items for the home at JYSK, and since they haven’t been able to stand the test of time, they are long gone. I would much rather spend more money and get good quality pieces. I can’t comment on the quality of untreated wood furniture sold at JYSK as I haven’t bought any, but looks like with a coat of paint and a good sealant most pieces have the potential to look good. The bedding section is worth browsing as well. The majority of sheet sets and duvet covers are made of cotton, and come in an array of attractive designs.

Does anyone know how to pronounce this store’s name? I always pronounced it with a silent J, with just the Y sound. My mom, on the other hand, gave up a long time ago and just spells out the letters every time she says it, just J-Y-S-K. Anyway, Jysk is a like a smaller version of Ikea. They have mattresses, bed linens, furniture, and home décor items. This is where I got my bed, and they made it pretty easy. We just tested out the sample mattresses they had on display(I felt like Goldilocks — «this one’s too soft, this one’s too hard»), picked the one we wanted, and the guy there helped us arrange the shipping information. Shipping is free, and they deliver at whatever time is best for you. I was really surprised at how easy and fast it all was! They really know their stuff there too. The guy told us about bed frames and supports, and which ones go best with which mattresses. In terms of brands, they sell the Sealy and Serta brands here. I’m glad we came here, because I’m very happy with my bed. I also like looking through their home accessories section, because they often have good deals on candles and frames. They have those bulk packages of small tea light candles for like $ 2, it’s a really good deal! I bought mine months ago, and I’m still working my way through it.
