Fast, cheap and tasty. My only complaint is that I don’t enjoy the meat in the combination phở to be of the best cuts and quality as other phở places. Overall, probably the best phở you will find in the west end.

My boyfriend needed to eat before work and since he works across the street at West Edmonton Mall he wanted something different from the usual joints in there. I suggested Vietnamese(because I’m always down for a big bowl of soup) and he eagerly agreed. Neither of us had been here before but we will definitely be coming back here regularly from now on. Parking is ample, especially on the weekends, and the inside is sparse but very clean. Staff was attentive and the menu was huge. Since we were both starving we decided to get 2 appys to share as well as a main dish. I went with a chicken phở(a first for me, I’m usually a beef girl), he went with one of the combo plates and we also shared a green onion cake and some shrimp dumplings. The dumplings were not fancy but were good and the green onion cake was about as close to perfect as you can get. We weren’t quite done our appys when the mains arrived and holy crap were we ever pleased. Huge portions, incredibly fresh looking shrimp, everything seasoned perfectly and just delicious. He got a spring roll with his and whatever filling they use is just dynamite – I’ve never had such a delicious spring roll in my life. And my soup was top notch, I don’t know why I’ve waited so long to hop on the chicken phở bandwagon. I am a bit disappointed that I didn’t see any spicy broth phở on the menu, that’s always a favourite of mine(I know that I can always doctor my soup up with the table condiments but it’s never the same). Paying the bill took a bit longer than we expected(they still do the thing where the orders are written down by hand and then they manually figure out the dollar amount) but other than that no complaints. This restaurant is close to where I live, convenient enough for Josh to stop by before or after work and has great quality food. I will be back again very soon.

Tried this place out for the first time. Me and the wife were starving and she was craving phở. I ordered the satay beef with spring rolls for appies. I was expecting the satay to have a bit more heat, but it fell flat in that department. The portions were good. I was little disappointed to see some lettuce stubs with my food instead of being disposed of. Overall experience was average. Nothing really to rave about.

Great place for Phở. the best I’ve had in the city so far. You can ask for your regular phở to be «spicy» and they add this special sauce to it which just pumps up the flavour. Green onion cakes and spring rolls are great too! Fresh squeezed orange juice is de-lish and also their mango drink as well. I live quite a distance away and I would drive so far just to eat here at least once a week! Keep in mind they are closed on Tuesdays for some odd reason but any other day is fair game!

I ordered take out here for 12 and was fairly impressed with the portions and service. They had everything ready on time and no mistakes in the order. They were generous with their extra sauces(unlike many other Vietnamese places) when asked for. The Vermicelli Bowls were very good. I would say it is one of the better places in the west for Vietnamese. However their prices are a little steep. Prices have went up substantially in the last years or two.

Looking for a Vietnamese food to be served fast and hot? This is your place. We arrived at 1PM for lunch and found the restaurant had about 6 tables occupied. We were pointed to an available table along the wall and close to the washroom. They brought a pot of tea to our table and I asked for a couple glasses of water which we got quick too. It took a few minutes of going through the menu before we decided on what we wanted. In that time, 2 different servers came to ask if we were ready to order. I informed them we needed more time and I didn’t really feel rushed. We both ordered the regular sized phở for $ 9(the large was $ 11). Before our soup arrived, they brought our bean sprouts and 2 lemon wedges. I was hoping for basil and lime but not here. Our meals came out about 5 minutes later. The broth was flavourful and hot. There was a decent amount of noodles and beef which left me feeling full. We asked for the bill and it was brought promptly to the table. I brought it up with the cash and received no acknowledgement. But when we were leaving, the staff said bye. Ok food and service. Would likely be back to have a vermicelli bowl for $ 11.

This place is awesome. The spicy phở with shaved beef is almost making me consider flying back to Edmonton to have some. The spring rolls are so delicious, and the green onion cakes are fluffy and the perfect amount of done-ness.

There is array of plastic flowers display around the restaurant. The look is an old school run down with turquoises colored furniture. Staring at myself in the mirror and seeing the background behind me freaks me out! The presentation of there food has gotten cheaper. There’s absolutely no uniqueness or care to how they present there food to there customers. The servers are really quick to get you tea, menu and taking your order, but they don’t really seem to take note regarding if you like your food or not. The meats are really greasy and fattening. The garnishes are just there to hang out. It’s not worth the price you pay. There’s a vegetarian menu available. I’ve tried a couple of these dishes and it was pretty bland and uninteresting. I’ve been here lots with my Western friends and they really like it. It’s one of the«better» Vietnamese restaurant around the West Edmonton Mall area.

No fresh herbs or greens of any kind were offered with my phở tai. Service was very efficient, even if it wasn’t effusive. All in all, La Pagode is alright. I wouldn’t rave about it like some of the others on here, though.

Another decent phở place is Edmonton. Parking is available in the giant strip mall parking lot. They should just rename Edmonton«City of Strip Malls» instead of «City of Champions». What’s the last thing Edmonton won anyways? An amusing side note is that the Chinese name is actually«10,000 families», which doesn’t match the English(er, French?) name at all. The inside is a bit plain, but at least it doesn’t look too beaten up. One thing I must mention though is that the staff here are frickin’ rude. Not just 1 person. But several of them. All of the ones who served us. There’s inattentive, and then there’s rude. This one falls into the latter. I had the beef satay phở. Having never had this specific dish(satay phở? Really?), I had only an inkling of what it would taste like. I imagined it being like the soup you’d get at hot pot, and in this case I was correct. It’s a novel idea, but it really did not go so well. There was nothing wrong with the quality though. This is definitely unique. My colleague had a shrimp and beef vermicelli. His dish looked freaking good. I wish i had gotten that one instead. Another colleague got duck with noodle soup, and the piece of meat he got was equivalent to a chicken thigh. Lastly, we had the spring rolls. They come with a giant bowl of fish sauce. I’m not talking about no dipping dish here. This is the same-sized bowl that they use to serve rice. The rolls themselves were crunchy, but the skins were more Chinese style(smooth, almost like brown paper) as opposed to the traditional Vietnamese style. Then again, the staff were half Vietnamese, half Chinese, which may explain it. Lastly, they accept credit cards here. Maybe it’s just because I’m from Vancouver(where it’s all cash only), but this fact always causes my jaw to drop. Yes, I’m easily amused.

Curtis says he can’t find anything to complain about and I totally agree. We always come to La Pagode, especially when we are craving their Beef Satay soup. The mix of flavors in that wonderfully made soup keeps us coming back for more. We also love their Ginger Beef; forget the rice(which you can order) we just want the beef. The Deep Fried Squid is also awesome. The best thing to do is oder many different items and share them with friends and family; the portions are pretty big and you’ll have trouble finishing it off by yourself. We even have trouble finishing off our soup bowls, which happen to be the size of our heads. It’s a great place to get together with the people you care about and catch up over lots of good food. The menu is pretty big and that can be a little overwhelming only because everything sounds so good. Curtis and I were waiting for our soup one day and we were looking at the take-out menu; listing off all the different dishes we haven’t tried yet made us so hungry. Oh and if you want to order any appetizers the spring rolls, green onion cakes and the deep fried shrimp rolls are super good. If you want to come to La Pagode I suggest you not eat for days so that you can eat a lot of really good food when your at the restaurant, or come with a large party and try a bit of everyones food.

My husband and I love this restaurant! Their food is outstanding! I personally don’t like how this place looks like a diner but I keep coming back there for the food! :) it can also get quite crowded in there.

The service is quick and the prices are reasonable, but the food is nothing to write home about. It’s not bad, by any means, but my phở was far too salty and the flavor in general was just a bit off in a way I can’t quite describe.

Been to this place several times now. Great place to go if your craving phở or some other vietnamese dishes(although the only other thing I’ve ordered besides phở is the green onion cakes). Anyways, went here recently on a Friday night. Place was not too crowded and we got a table in the back. We all ordered phở(3 beef and 1 chicken). Broth is tasty and comes with the typical garnish of bean sprouts and lemons(but was missing herbs). I’d recommend putting a bit of their hot sauce condiment in and mix it into the broth, gives it a nice kick. I had the chicken phở which had a good amount of chicken in it along with rice noodles and the usual stuff. Really like the prices here — $ 8 for a regular and $ 10 for a large. Cheap! Plus even regular is decent sized(my two friends couldn’t finish their bowls). So basically, good place for phở and reliable. Definitely would recommend if your in the West End area.

If you are looking for a fast and tasty Vietnamese place, look no further. The menu is extensive and service is always quick and attentive. I’ve been to this place several times and even though I’ll typically order the same things on the menu(ie: Beef Satay, or Lemongrass chicken), I’ve tried a number of the other menu items and have never been disappointed. Beef stew is always good on cold winter days, and one of my new favorite items is the Green Onion Cake with Chicken inside of it. I’ve taken a few other friends and family members and most would say they will be going back. I know I will be. As mentioned this place does not have much for décor, but its clean and well lit. Prices are in line with other Vietnamese places and even with its proximity to West Edmonton Mall, the parking is never a problem(only the traffic getting into the small strip mall across from WEM.

La Pagode has the exact same menu as Pagolac in Chinatown, so as Lauren points out, it is likely owned by the same people. It is in a strip mall just across the street from West Edmonton Mall, and is worth the short walk to get some quality Vietnamese food if you have been out shopping. I had a bowl of medium beef and well-done brisket phở. The serving was reasonably large, and was packed with beef and noodles. Just as medium beef should be, there was a lot of pink when the bowl first arrived at the table(a few scant minutes after ordering), and cooked through in the hot broth. The brisket was not too fatty and the broth was flavourful. I was surprised the server did not bring mint leaves alone with the sprouts and lemon wedge. My friend ordered a stir fried beef and noodle dish. While beef in some Asain restaurants can be tough and taste preserved, this beef was tender and fresh. The noodles were flat, thick, and gummy, fully absorbed in the beef flavour. He was very satisfied with the portion and taste. Price-wise, La Pagode is in line with other Vietnamese restaurants, running at about $ 8 for a bowl of phở(which comes in two sizes here) or vermicelli and $ 10 and upwards for the more intricate dishes. Service is friendly and helpful. I have a feeling that I will be making La Pagode my west end phở stop.

I think this is one of the newer Vietnamese restaurants in town, as I haven’t seen it here before. La Pagode is apparently owned by the same people of Pagolac in Chinatown. So, if you’re in the west end and craving some phở, La Pagode is my recommendation. It’s fairly large, and has your typical Vietnamese no-frills interior. There are faux plants and pretty framed paintings of Vietnam on the walls, but that’s about it. The phở is delicious! The noodles were nice and chewy, not too soft. And they use a good brand that doesn’t break apart and turn to mush in your soup. The broth is just right, not too salty. I don’t think they use too much MSG, because we didn’t feel thirsty after the meal. We also had the green onion cakes as an after-snack, and they were also really yummy. Crisp but chewy on the inside, they weren’t greasy at all. The only downside was that they didn’t come with the usual plum sauce. The service was quick and efficient, and our waitress got us whatever we wanted when we asked for it, but it seemed like we had to ask for things that should normally come with the meal anyway. Like herbs for the phở, or plum sauce for the onion cakes, or more tea. We weren’t trying to be picky, we just thought those things usually came without asking. But overall, La Pagode is one of the better places in the west end, better than the restaurants inside West Ed. A good idea for a meal after all your shopping!
