Mike’s Sub and Donair

Alas Mikes is no more. I think the odd hours may have done it in as they were freindly as far as service went. Food was just ok but I hope he is retired or on to bigger better things and wish him the best!

I didn’t have high expectations, but Mike’s surprisingly serves a zesty donair, that may be better than the donair at Swiss Donair. Sure, my cheese donair was microwaved for the purpose of melting the cheese, and my processed-​looking donair meat came from a chafing dish, but the spices of the donair meshed well with the sweet sauce.
It’s definitely not healthy, but good when you want something meaty that isn’t a hamburger.

They heat the donair in a microwave… what the hell is up with that? As soon as I saw that I was turned off.
The donair wasn’t half bad but the meat was a bit tasteless. It could compare to some other places but the whole heating of the donair was heart wrenching. This is not how they should be dealt with. I found Mike’s to be pricier than normal donair places too.
I won’t be going back.

Mike’s Sub and Donair is located perfectly for people shopping at Save On Foods next door, or at any of the other shops in this area of Mayfield Common. The restaurant is larger on the inside than the storefront indicates. As far as the menu goes, it’s pretty much the same as any sub and donair shop — a selection of around a half dozen of each, as well as some salads and desserts. Prices are quite reasonable — a super cheese donair was only around $ 9.50. The meat was not overly spicy but had just enough kick to keep my donair-​chomping companion happy. However, he said there could have been more meat. The sauce was very sweet, and the entire donair was heated up in a microwave, rather than grilled as it is in some places. I found this curious, but it kept the donair hot for a long time. Mike’s is certainly not a destination, but definitely worth checking out for a quick lunch or supper if you happen to be in that area.
