I have only been once and once was enough. I can’t remember the name of the cupcake I had but I believe the flavor was strawberry cheesecake. I found it to be overwhelmingly sweet to the point where I had to scrape off half of the icing while the cupcake itself tasted doughy and not quite done. I was also unimpressed with the staff member who was leaning up against the counter texting on her cellphone. I had to walk over to the other side of the counter where she was to get her attention and she couldn’t be bothered to apologize for ignoring me. Top it all off with the $ 4.00 pricetag and it makes for one lame experience. Don’t waste your time with this one.

On a recent trip to WEM I walked past this little cupcake kiosk several times admiring the cute cupcakes — any some yummy looking chocolate covered strawberries(but at 3 $ a pop — no thanks!) Finally decided to try it… Ordered a mint and a chocolate with white icing. Sat down to try them out, took one bite of each and threw the rest away. Not only dry, they just didn’t taste good. The icing was ok, but the cake was really bad. What a waste of money :(

I had never in my life thrown away a cupcake before I was done eating it until I tried one from Once Upon A Cupcake. I tried the Enchanted Cheesecake, which is a chocolate cake with a cheesecake filling and cream cheese icing. Sounds like my dream cupcake, right? Not so much. Maybe it was because I picked it up around 7PM, but the cake was pretty dry.(Perhaps that’s why most other cupcake shops around the city don’t stay open so late?) The first bite was tasty and chocolate, but very dry. The other thing that hit me was the sugar overload. I like sweet things, but the sweetness of this cake was way too intense for my tastes. It took me a while to find the«cheesecake filling in the centre.» When I found it, I was able to chow down on it in just one bite. I’m sure on its own, it would have been tasty, but it had so little sugar in it that it tasted almost bitter in comparison to the rest of the cake. If it was a bit sweeter, and the cake a little less so, they might have been a nice contrast to each other, but this was just gross. The cream cheese icing was good, but nothing worth writing home about. I finished the icing, but threw away the rest of the cake. At $ 4 a pop, this baby didn’t come cheap, either. Bummer. A cute set-up(if a bit bland), cute cake names, and nice staff, but I say avoid!

I’m surprised that this cupcake kiosk doesn’t have a review on Unilocal. This was my first time visiting the West Edmonton mall and I got so excited when I spotted a cupcake kiosk. Let’s just say that I LOVE cupcakes! They feature a variety of cupcakes… however, they are quite pricey. If it’s your first time trying this place out then it’s ok if you shell out a little bit extra ;). The regular cupcakes are $ 2.99 and the specialties are $ 3.99. If you buy half a dozen, they don’t charge you tax and you get a 10% discount. There were many flavours with unique names but I don’t remember them all. I just remember them tasting really yummy. The cake batter wasn’t dry and was moist(y). I’ve added a few pictures so you can drool over =9.
