I have been into Papyrus a few times since my last review and I will admit they are slowly winning me over due to some improvements with the customer service. I would say I have been receiving a greeting and offer of assistance 2 out every 3 times I have come in. When I was in tonight infact Bernice the manager was very helpful with finding a great gift wrapping option for the earrings I was buying. I didn’t feel at all like she was rushing to be done with me and she showed me several different options at several different price points. I still believe that most of the single cards are grossly overpriced and im sad that they don’t carry as many collectibles as their sister store Carlton Cards does. If your coming in looking for Precious Moments or Cherished Teddies sorry but your out of luck. They do have some other cute(but more expensive) things though if your looking specifically for a gift like stationary sets, Jim Shore, Niquea D jewelry, and this cute line of musical wooden figurines and boxes they just recently brought out. They still offer the gift wrapping service with their high quality wrap and I must say I have watched some of the ladies at work and they really do a great job with people’s packages. The limited selection in certain areas and higher price points mean this place won’t be becoming my go to spot for cards and gifts but I am definitely not as hesitant to recommend it as an option for those who spend a great deal of time downtown as I was before.

This is the place to go if you are looking for beautiful cards that are sparkly, shiny, and pretty. They can be simple or have embellishments for various occasions. The Papyrus cards along the walls are $ 6 or more. They also have Carlton cards for lower cost. I was able to find a cute card for $ 3.29. But I have also found when they have Papyrus cards on sale, they are a great deal! I have bought a few for $ 1 each that were beautiful to give away for birthdays. I also bought a box of Taylor Swift Papyrus cards for 75% and the recipients commented how lovely the card was! I have also bought a kid’s felt book, photo frame, and other items on sale. The staff are always helpful and friendly.

As part of my attempt to be an adult, I’ve started trying to do grown-up things like sending thank you cards and Christmas cards. You can certainly get cards for much cheaper than at Papyrus(try Dollarama or Winners if you just want cheap cards), but the cards and other gift items are here are much nicer. The store feels a little bit abandoned sometimes, and I’ve had to wait for awhile a couple times to pay even though there was no one else in the store. There is one employee who is nice and helpful, but another(who I think is a manager) who can’t seem to be bothered… she walked right by me waiting at the till and into the back of the store without saying a thing! Nice cards, just don’t go in a hurry or expecting great service.

I came to Papyrus to pick out wrapping paper and a bow to wrap a valentines day present for my boyfriend. The two ladies were very helpful when I asked them for«something that doesn’t scream valentines day but is still very nice and romantic». Mainly I just hate most things covered in hearts that sing. However I am still a sucker for valentines day. I also really like the rest of the store, they had a lot of fun little things to add to gifts, most of which were a little over priced, but so is every other little gift store.

There used to be a Carlton Cards in the same location in City Centre mall, on the lower lever by the food court in the east mall. Whenever I bought cards there, I would 98% of the time buy Papyrus cards. I love the way they look — handmade, creative and cute. There are some designs that don’t appeal to me, but isn’t that the way it is with everything? I was really happy when I went to the mall and saw that this was now a full out Papyrus store. Aside from greeting cards, they have boxes of cards, stationary, calendars, wrapping paper and bags, and gifts and more. They often have deals, like buy multiple cards and get one/some free, or 50% tables. More basic cards are around the $ 4 mark, with the fancier cards with lots of embellishments running anywhere from $ 7 – 8 and up. The store itself is visually appealing and very clean and organzied. The cashiers have left a little to be desired in my interactions with them — I’ve seen them treat other customers right in front of me a lot better than me when I’m in my gym clothes, stuff like that. But whatever, I’ve never really needed their assistance or anything so it doesn’t affect me much.
