I have stopped by Sceppa’s a couple of times on the way home. It’s the only food place in a commercial zone that’s geared mostly towards office, industrial and home-building supplies. I imagine this small family business gets a lot of local traffic come lunch-hour, but it’s been virtually empty when I’ve visited mid-morning. They make a great cappuccino and I specifically go back for the fresh bocconcini and prosciutto panini with a tangy vegetable spread. It’s the stuff of nagging food daydreams and has got to be some of the freshest mozza and savoury-sweet cured ham I’ve ever tried. Now, I take issue with the fact that they serve it on plain, old submarine buns flattened and toasted in a panini grill. I know they’re going for the no-frills family comfort food feel, but the sandwich would be so much better squeezed between to fresh, thick slices of homemade Italian bread. I haven’t tried the pasta, but I hear it’s a different dish every day, and that their white wine sauce is particularly good. Sceppa sells wine and beer also, but the atmosphere is more conducive to a quick lunch grabbed on the fly than an intimate dining experience. The windows look out onto a parking lot and although the small space has nice, ambient décor the café-style chairs and tables and bright lighting don’t invite lingering. I suggest some window-dressings, maybe a candle or two, to make the place feel warmer. All in all, Sceppa’s has got a pretty good thing going — and if they’d cozy it up a little more, I might be tempted to uncork a bottle there and enjoy a full multi-course Italian meal. Ciao until next time.

So I’ve been dying to find out what this place was all about. So finally my coworker and I went to this place. We were advised to go early because there would be a lineup. It was 12 and no lineup. So we get there and the guy at the counter is showing us the pastas. I was in the mood for a veal sandwich. So we both ordered the same thing. They said they’ll bring it out to our tables. The tables already had a couple pieces of bread with some butter. Not a bad touch. Then we get our lunches. I could see in the corner they were your typical frozen breaded veals. They were placed under a grill with some cheese and some sauce. I’m like, this is what I paid $ 9 for? I can get way more at California Sandwiches for the same price and better quality of meat than that piece of crap I got. Ya so what if it’s a Hot Table spot. But really? Don’t pull the wool over me. I’m not your typical white bread who doesn’t know their Italian food. I swear as bad a Primo Pasta in Mississauga was, this one I think has dropped a notch or two below. I won’t be visiting there again.
