Spasation Salon & Spa

I have been to three different salons in the Edmonton downtown core of which some were generally quite a bit more expensive than Spaasation. However, Spasation remains to have a good upbeat environment conveniently located in the downtown core which is nice to walk to if you’re like myself and work downtown. Friendly staff is always there to greet you and offer you water when you get in. The place is always clean and the staff seems to know how to cut hair. As a guy who had a mom that owned an award winning salon downtown Vancouver you come to have some basic expectations of how a good salon operates. My only complaint is that the guy that cuts my hair is late a good 80% of the time or better by 15 minutes of more (he manages the place so he seems to be over worked). He does a good job though so I always come back. You definitely won’t get a head massage from any of their staff as it seems to be more of a push people through type operation when it comes to hair being done even if you tip really well. My stylist is a guy so I don’t mind that though haha.
I’ve never experienced a massage here but the two friends I sent down there with gift certificates really seemed to enjoy it. As for getting hair done if you’re a lady maybe try out different people before you decide to do anything special because my friend was really ticked off when the manager kept wandering off to gab with friends instead of doing his job. I mean if you’re over worked don’t over book yourself or take breaks right?
However, if you’re a guy this remains to be a vibrant fun atmosphere and I’d recommend it if you’re not in a quick rush. You’ll get a good haircut instead of the typical rushed box clipper cut most places provide and you’ll feel good when you leave.

Got a haircut with David. Noticed after I got home and washed it that one side was longer than the other. Left him two messages to try and talk to him about it with no response. Finally made another appointment. Went in and told him the problem. yes ok no problem!!! He started cutting on the side that was shorter!!! HF. told him I don’t want it any shorter. he kept saying to me is that better .how do you like this? I’m thinking are you kidding? you’re the professional can’t you tell when both sides look the same??? OMG…20 plus years of experience… don’t go to him.

My stylist Jazz was horrific!!! Beyond words she was bad. She not only murdered my hair to the point that I need it re-​cut asap she thought it was fine to wash my hair in COLD water and laughing at me when I asked for it to be warmer. Then she literally burnt my scalp because it was too HOT! The hair washing experience was dreadful and painful! She combed out my hair to aggressively I though my hair will rip out. I came very close to walking away then but wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt. She then pulled dirty scissors from her bag that was covered in hair. Clearly not cleaned or sanitized, why I didn’t leave then I don’t know. She then cut my hair, very crooked I might add and she didn’t seem to understand what I wanted at all. Then she blowed dryed my hair and she was so aggressive she was yanking my hair and my neck very hard that it hurt, she was also stabbing me in the ear with her long nails. I asked her to do it differently because it hurt me. She got mad at me and said she didn’t know how to dry my hair then. So she stopped and proceeded to try curling my hair while WET! Yes, wet. I actually sat back just to see if the girl was for real or what, cause who does that??? Then she was done. Finished up my appointment with wet not so curled hair and a shrug of the shoulders as to why the style didn’t look good. I was so pissed!!! I am only going back here to get my hair fixed by a senior stylist because they REFUSED to refund my money! MY nice long hair trim is now turning into a full cut because of the fix up job. I am not happy and pissed! Avoid this place!

Worst spa experience I have had in my life. My friend bought us a couples massage on groupon, and they told us when we got there that it wasn’t going to be the full hour, they didn’t have time so they were cutting it short. We got a girl and a creepy guy. The creepy guy was making sexual jokes to my friend, and farting, while blaming it on his ibs problem?! They swore and made fun of previous clients. They talked about how they don’t care about the clients who use groupons because they just wanted a deal. They were whispering about us when our heads were down… It was so awkward and gross from the moment we got there to the moment we left. Do not go here for spa!!! Go to the Londonderry location.

Stay away from this place. I went there for an emergency hair cut before a big event. What I received could barely qualify as a haircut at all. The stylist took the clippers to me and sheared off all my hair in about 10 minutes. This is something that can be expected form a place like Super Cuts, but here I would have expected a little bit more, you know, workmanship. Anyway, my side burns were crooked, odd hairs sticking out here and there, and the response I received when I dared to note said things was nothing short of priceless: The stylist just shrugged and said: «You don’t like it? Well, I don’t know what to tell you.» That was it. I can understand that anyone could screw up, but dismissing a valid concern as a whim — that’s something that can ruin your chance at earning any repeat business. Ended up going to Icon and getting everything touched up. The Verdict — stay away from the overpriced Super Cuts clone.

I purchased a groupon for a facial here and man was I disappointed. I know there is a misconception that if you aren’t paying full prices for the service then you shouldn’t expect to receive the best service. I completely disagree but regardless my experience was pretty bad. I arrived early on a Saturday morning and it was completely dead but my esthetician was running about 10 minutes behind, which would normally be fine except for she tried to make up the time during my facial by rushing. She was extremely rough with everything she did and didn’t warn me before she did anything. I’ve had numerous facials before and I can tell you that this one was not relaxing what so ever, in fact I was probably more stressed by the time I finished. She told me I looked tired and needed more sleep, which was probably true but I found it a bit rude, coupled with the fact that she didn’t ask me anything about my skin before we started and just was slapping things on and then putting piping hot face clothes on my face without even testing the temperature first. Once she raced through a lot of the facial she put a mask on me and left the room for 20 minutes… In all of my previous facials if they put a mask on you to sit they will usually work on another part of your body, like for instance give you a hand or leg massage. Since you are paying for their time you kind of except they will be doing something for you for the entire time. Anyways she was back on time, if not early for her next appointment since she rushed through mine. Needless to say I won’t be coming back here.

I went here for a manicure and pedicure, the same gal did both and I was quite happy with the pedicure but for my manicure she really rushed it and I asked for french polish and it was just a complete mess, the white tips are horrible and I was embarrassed to show anyone so as soon as I got home I removed all the polish.
It’s very disappointing because you pay an extra $ 15 for the french polish. What a shame. Should have got regular polish (even though I find it boring, hence why I choose french polish every time!).
My advice for anyone looking to go here is to just go somewhere else. I guess it’s deceiving either way because the girl I went to said she had been in the business for 33 years, so I was thrilled to have someone with so much experience. Alas, it was disappointing. I guess it doesn’t matter where you go until you find the right one.

First I will say Jolene is a great massage therapist. And I hope she reads this and contacts me if she goes to work somewhere else.
I booked a massage with Spasation South for a Sunday afternoon. I received a reminder call the day before and was set to go the next day. Looking at my email Sunday afternoon 90 minutes before my scheduled appointment saying that they moved my appointment to an hour later without my consent. No apologies, no consideration, and definitely nothing done to rectify the matter.
I sent two messages via the website to speak to someone about the issue, and have not yet had a response.
Don’t bother with Spasation, there are better.

Got a Groupon for a couples massage with my wife. We went on a day off because apparently we couldn’t use it on the weekend. We ended up getting two big dudes as massage therapists. I can’t speak for my wife (although she didn’t have the best experience either) but the guy that was working on me had a bit of B.O. which smelled like he covered it with some Axe body spray. His arms were also quite hairy which was kind of uncomfortable and awkward when he would use them on me. Lastly, I know it’s dark and relaxing in there but he kept yawning which was the biggest WTF.

I had a massage here the other day. It was at 2:00, and saying as it was my first time having a massage at this location, arrived 10 minutes early for it. I was informed that my therapist was scheduled to start at 2:00, but may be a few minutes late. I waited till 2:20 and they phoned him and he arrived at 2:35. I had taken the afternoon off work and had another engagement to be at 3:30. My therapist did not apologize for being late.
Overall the massage itself was fine, but I was more annoyed at waiting so long for this, being late for my other engagement, and the massage therapist not saying anything about being late.
After paying, I was informed that they had a groupon promotion going on. I did not have a groupon, and expected a bit more professional service. I doubt I will come back here for a massage.

I went to Spasation in city centre mall for a massage. The dude that provided the massage just keep chatting about his personal gay life. It was very annoying and uncomfortable. I was feeling very awkward that all I can do is keep saying uh huh and good for you. I did not appreciate that experience and will not be coming back again.

I booked an appointment with a registered message therapist. I was very clear that I would like to see a registered therapist and was assured that I was scheduled with one. The massage was good but when I submitted my claim, my insurance company informed me that my claim couldn’t be processes because the therapist was not registered in Alberta. When I called Spasasation and complained about being misinformed, they apologized but didn’t do anything about it. I won’t be coming back.

I had a massage here that I purchased with a Groupon. The massage was really just meh. Not terrible but I didn’t really feel like I got a lot out of it. I’ve certainly had much more relaxing massages. The spa itself seems a little second rate. Everything is almost nice but not quite. I won’t rush back, even with a Groupon.

I went here for a pedicure with a friend and they scheduled an appointment on short notice with no fuss.
The staff were laid back and competent, and interacted just the right amount to be friendly while letting my friend and I chat while getting our pedicures. The atmosphere was relaxing and the location is of course very convenient downtown. I’ll definitely be back here.

I went in 10 minutes early for my hair appointment, but ended up waiting about 20 – 30 minutes because their hair stylist, Mario was behind schedule. During the wait, they did not inform me anything until I asked.
The shampoo procedure was meh. They washed my hair twice, and did not condition my hair or gave me a head massage. Even small hair salon businesses would give you these things. I was pretty disappointed.
Their hair stylist, Mario, does what he wants, and not what you want. My requests were pretty simple, but if you know exactly what you want, don’t go to him. He is not a chatty type, which I was fond of because most hairdressers are nosey. My hair turned out just ok, definitely not worth $ 90.
I won’t be going back. There’s better places out there who will give you your money’s worth.

With my regular massage therapist on mat leave, I tried out Spasation when my neck started to hurt, simply because it was close to my work.
When I walked in, I was directed to the basement where I sat to wait for my assigned therapist.
I changed into a yellowed, old oil-​smelling robe when Fiona came to get me, sat me down with the assessment form and proceeded to question me intensely about every answer.
I often complain about the pointlessness of filling out these forms because they barely get glanced at before the rub begins, but I found this to be the exact opposite, and the grilling about my answers became borderline uncomfortable.
I explained that my neck and shoulder were very sore because of the way I had been sleeping, and when Fiona finally led me into the treatment room, she questioned/​lectured me for what seemed like a long time about possible causes of my pain.
After I got onto the table, and Fiona re-​entered the room, she continued her lecture regarding how I am abusing my muscles by sleeping on my side, carrying my purse and working on a computer (she went so far as to tell me to find another job).
Once the lecture ended and she actually got down to rubbing my back, it was a sufficient rub — good pressure and confident strokes, if a bit inelegant and rough.
Even though the massage, technically, fixed me up — I won’t go back. I don’t need a therapist to prove to me how smart she is while trying her best to show me how stupid I am…

Let me just first say that I have never had a pedicure until the day I came here. Yes, it’s possible and totally true.
But when a series of events occur in life, such as a couple weeks of exhaustion at work and your best friend’s wedding happening the next day (and you completely forgot to do your nails and toes because you didn’t have the time), you’re likely to splurge on yourself and get a pedi. Actually, I decided to get a mani and pedi, the full works. And I had only initially intended to get an eyebrow wax done …
So I decided to spoil myself! The wax job was incredibly quick and took no more than 5 minutes. Clean, simple, and as painless as an eyebrow wax could be.
The pedi though, was the highlight of my afternoon. Suely has magic hands, I kid you not! The full pedi treatment includes a massage, buffing, paraffin wax treatment, and paint job. All while you’re sitting in a big massage chair with your feet in a jet massage tub, sipping away your tea or juice. Heaven! I actually fell asleep during the paraffin wax, because it was just that relaxing.
One word of advice, if you haven’t been for a pedi before — bring open-​toe sandals. Flip-​flops are best, so they won’t disturb your beautiful pedi. I wore boots that day, big mistake! Luckily the bf was willing to bring my sandals from home …

I had been going to see the Owner Mario for about a couple of months and he had been doing a decent job. He does what he wants though and not what you would like. The last time I went to him, I took my sister as she was looking for someone new. I am a burnette and she is a blonde. When we were finshed, he had colored my sister’s hair to match my hair color (She did not want to be a brunette and had told him)! and gave her the same style! His staff even remarked that we looked like twins! He got all defensive and said no we were completely different. My sister was heartbroken over this and had to go get the color and cut fixed else where. I will not be going back there.
