The Rose & Crown Pub

RosenCrown recently changed their lunchtime menu so we thought we’d give it a try for a quick lunch. The service here was great. I feel the service is always great. If it wasn’t for the service I’d give them a two star rating.
I had the avocado, tomato and lettuce sandwich. It was tasty enough but the amount of avocado of this sandwich was laughable. Come on! If ur gonna offer an avocado sandwich you better put a healthy portion of avocado on it! Epic fail RnC!

The three stars are for the ambiance and atmosphere. The food is poor, especially for the elevated prices. There is a good selection of beers, so it might be worth it to come here for that. Otherwise, I recommend eating elsewhere.

Service was awesome, and the butter chicken poutine is the best in the city! It’s a hidden gem.

Worthy of a visit for a couple simple pints, don’t bother looking at the menu. I really don’t understand how I could go to 2 Rose and Crowns in one week and they are completely different restaurants! They don’t have the same menu as Banff and the food is cooked entirely differently.
All 4 of our meals were bland, boring, and flavorless. Half of it seemed like it was scooped out of a can or heated in a microwave from a frozen package. If I wanted an unseasoned Hungry Man dinner I’d have spent $ 4 at Sobeys.
There was no «toad in the hole» on the menu so I got the bangers and mash. The mashed potatoes were unseasoned, skinless white potatoes that tasted they were from a box or actually were at one point a box. I had a whole can of peas taking up half my plate, a Yorkshire pudding worthy of a Tim Hortons, and bangers that I already don’t even remember eating.
Service was however timely, friendly, and very pretty.
Overall if you happen to be in the area and want a few relaxed pints its a good place with nice people.

I love this place, Ive now visited 5+ times and it has never been busy! I wonder why. They have great live music, I dont think Ive seen the same performer twice but I always have liked who they have playing. Such a unique place to hang out downtown.

We came here for dinner and it was really good. My husband had a lamb dish and it was very hearty and had a great home made from scratch flavour. I had the bangers and mash which was good as well. The live music was also a nice complement

This pub is a great spot to pop in and avoid the cold on a wintery night. I don’t visit often during the summer since there is no patio, but its pedway connectivity comes in very handy when it’s minus 40 outside!
Rose & Crown is a classic pub — wood finishes, lots of beer to drink and solid pub food served from the kitchen. The food has recently become a bit more expensive with most dishes between $ 15 – 20, yet the quality remains the same; ordinary pub food. This has curbed the frequency with which I come here.
The servers here have always been good. I don’t remember any standout interactions, either positive or negative.
All in all, Rose & Crown is a viable part of my downtown pub rotation.

Went to the Rose & Crown this week for lunch. Unfortunately I was a little disappointed with the service we received. Our waitress pretty much gave us as little service possible, i.e. we never were asked to have our drinks refilled or how the food tasted. Good was OK, nothing special, just standard pub fair. Sorry Rose & Crown, next time I’m craving pub food I think I will pass.

Relatives and friends were in town for the Gift Show and we decided to go to the Rose and Crown since they were staying at the Sutton Place Hotel. This was the worst service I have ever received but I am glad we did not get to far into service before we left.
The waitress did not introduce herself but she did greet us with «Just so you know that you are a group of eight and everything will be put on one bill and it is a mandatory 18% gratuity». I don’t know about you bt this is not a very friendly way to greet customers.
The waitress dropped off one menu and then came back and asked to take our drink orders. My wife ordered a cider and then asked if we could get some menus. She left, then took a table their food and disappeared. About five minutes later, she came back and gave my wife her drink and then we once again asked her for menus. She then disappeared again and came back about two minutes later without menus and wanted to take our drink orders again. One of the people from our group asked, «Do you want to be our server?» and then she responded with «Do you want me to be your server?». We had enough and went to the Chop Steakhouse. Boy am I ever glad that we received horrible service as my prime rib was phenominal at the Chop. Oh, and our waitress did get her 18% tip!

Something has changed and it just isn’t the same anymore. The recently revamped the menu. Though they still have their fries which is nice, but not enough for me to keep coming back.

My coworkers love this place, so I’ve been coming here a lot more than I might otherwise. They have an ok selection of beers on tap, but the prices aren’t great… the specials are usually not so special.
The food is also just ok. Nothing really special. They do have gluten-​free menu items though, if that’s important to you.

If you’re having beer — it’s a decent place, but DON’T order food. We were there with a group and ended up ordering some food from the app menu after 9:30pm. Some wings that were supposed to be salt/​pepper/​thyme. There may have been some salt and pepper, but didn’t taste like much. But the worst was these calamari rings that both looked tasted like like little rubber seals that you’d put on a faucet. And these would be the old ones you are taking off. Yuck.
But i was back there a couple nights later for a pint before heading back to the hotel room. And the bartender was great I just would stay away from the food.

Beer selection is vast and service is friendly and attentive. Great place for a group to meet.
Friday and Saturday there is always some type of entertainment.
The reason I didn’t give a higher rating is that the cost of food here is expensive, bordering on fine dining levels. For pub grub it ain’t cheap.

Beer is beer in this packed rendition of a pub in a mall complex that houses a hotel and office tower. The steak sandwiches were, however dismal — which is a surprise given a simple that any pub or restro knows that failure to deliver something as simple as a steak sandwich messges just how dismal the rest of the pub grub really is… cold & mediocre fires and onion rings, tough cut steak laid out on the back end of what looked like a sub bun. Tasteless and classless.

I am not 100% sure, but I think Rose and Crown is operated by the same people as Sherlock’s. Both English pubs have an almost identical menu and those duplicate food items taste the same. That being said, the place has a great atmosphere. Good selection of beers. I would come here again for a drink and get together. Even though the food is not wonderful, I also would order something, if need be.

Rose and Crown Pub is a palce downtown and it is very spacious. They have plenty of seating. They often have live acts playing which is refreshing and sometimes they have regular music. They switch it up a lot.
The servers are very friendly and very attentive. They make sure you get everything you need and take good care of you without bothering you to much. We didn’t order food, just had some drinks and hung out. It was a pretty good experience.

The food is good, not great. They have quite a few beers on tap, which is nice, but most of all the atmosphere is great.
It’s set up like a proper pub, though rather large for a pub because of the amount of tables that they have. As a rough estimate, I would say there is seating for 100 or so plus the bar. They have live music most evenings, which is a bit obnoxious, but when there isn’t live music it’s a great pub for a bit of food and a chat.
The servers are great. I’ve been there four or five times and I’ve always had a great experience with the servers.
I’ve had the salmon and the shephard’s pie, and both were definitely pretty good but not the greatest in the world.
It’s definitely worth a shot, but my recommendation is that it’s a good spot for a pint and a chat, but it might not be a bad idea to look elsewhere for dinner if you’re expecting something super.

A friend and I were looking for a place to hang out downtown. We didn’t want a crowded spot and were looking for a pub. I thought we should try the Rose & Crown. I’d seen it before but never went. It’s accessible through the pedway though we did have to go outside a bit.
This place is a great pub atmosphere. We ended up going both Friday and Saturday night. My friend was especially impressed with the Mediterranean Veggie platter she ordered. I ordered the crab & spinach dip which was okay but I didn’t taste the crab. Friday night they had Vodka Slime specials which made us giggle since neither of us had consumed those since turning 18. So, for the sake of nostalgia we had those. Then I ventured out and ordered a Hoegaarden beer only because I saw it advertised on the wall and hadn’t heard of it before. It was huge! We made the mistake of sitting right near the speaker of the live entertainer the first night. Saturday was karaōke so we were sure to find a semi-​quiet corner.
