The Smile Zone

I was told invisaligns would work for me, 1 year max, but clearly they did no. 4 years later, my teeth are still not to where they are suppose to be. I have gone past my allotted time frame for invisilign and the dentist seemed annoyed & bothered that he would have to submit a report to invisilign explaining why I had gone past the allotted time, so that my time could be extended. Unhappy with his comments to me, I told him to forget it and to take the attachments off my teeth and send me the final retainers. Will not be back to smile zone, I feel I have wasted $ 5300 and very unhappy with the way i was treated on my last appointment there. (I was also hounded for the remaining balance on my account, which was not explained to me, all of a sudden I owed $ 305 for the final retainers)
I will not be back, and do not recommend smile zone to anyone for invisgalin, clearly not their specialty.

I’ve always had a great experience with them, especially my hygienist Dayna! She’s one of the best I’ve ever had. I’ve never had any issues with billing insurance or having my questions answered. They do put some emphasis on the cosmetic side of dentistry. I don’t find them to be pushy with the cosmetics though. All in all, they’ve been awesome.

I’m a nervous dental patient and I’ve received excellent care from Dr Caouette and the rest of the team. Procedures are always well explained and all my questions are answered. I find that my appointments are always on time and last as long as I was told to expect. Parking can be a bit of a challenge but that’s typical for the University area. I noticed a comment in another review that they don’t direct bill insurance, but they have always done so for me. Maybe check before you go. Perhaps it depends on the insurance company? I recommend The Smile Zone :)

I was a client at The Smile Zone for several years and now have moved away from Edmonton to find that other dentists who are just as competent as those at The Smile Zone charge almost half the cost for the same service. In retrospect I am appalled at what I was charged for a basic cleaning and X-​rays at The Smile Zone. I do not have dental insurance so dental costs were taxing to my budget and even so why should the costs be so high when other dentists can make a living being more reasonable? I am very disappointed in this industry and the way they set their prices. Dental health is key to our general health yet the costs are prohibitive for the average wage earner.

I am honestly surprised by the reviews for this place. I’ve been going to the smile zone for about a year and a half and I won’t go anywhere else. I am one of those patients that don’t freeze well and find going to the dentist a painful experience. I have to say that since I’ve been seing Dr. Andrew, I haven’t had any painful experiences. The staff is friendly, the place is clean, and I have no complaints about the services. I’ve had cleanings, filings, a crown and a dental implant done. I just finished the crown and implant yesterday and am so happy with the result. The porcelain crown matches perfectly with the rest of my teeth and I can’t help but smile. As for benefits and prices, if you go to any dentist it’s always the same thing. Know your benefits before you go anywhere, or ask for pre-​authorization of services for bigger amounts. Prices are comparable to any dentist in town, the crown and implant I got were a little expensive and I could have gotten cheaper elsewhere, but it could also have been more expensive.
Overall, I am happy with the quality of service at Smile Zone. I recommend this place to my friends and colleagues. I like that it’s a one-​stop shop and I don’t have to go to a orthodontic dentist to get my crown and implant.

The dentist was fine, the front desk friendly but the dental hygienists were extremely patronizing and unprofessional. I did NOT appreciate my chest being used as a tray! there’s one provided, it should be used. And I definitely didn’t appreciate being treated like it was my first time at the dentist, I felt sorry for the gentleman in the next room because the hygienist spoke to him like he was a 5 year old. The hygienist, bertie, I had, really needs to work on her «bedside manner» and be more aware of her patient’s comfort. I do not recommend this place, nor do friends who have tried this place.

The only reason why I went there was because it is very close to U of A campus and it is part of the dental network for students. However, to my surprise, they do not accept direct payment from the insurance company. I have to go there twice last year to get my wisdom teeth removed. The first time was so-​called «new patient examination», where I waited 30 mins to see a dentist. He looked at my teeth for like 5 mins and told me I could get them removed and that was it, except I have to book ANOTHER appointment for that! This 5-​min «consultation» costed $ 65!!! Lucky for me, the insurance company would cover it, except the front desk messed up the calculation and I was charged with $ 17 extra. She seemed very impatient and was chatting with her colleague the entire time. When I asked her about the bill, she told me the $ 17 would be used as «credit» for my next visit since refund would be TOO MUCH trouble. Then I realized that she entered my birthday wrong too! My insurance claim would totally get rejected if I didn’t point it out to her.
I decided to give them the benefit of doubt because one person’s lack of professionalism and incompetency cannot represent the entire corporation, so I went there again for my wisdom teeth removal. The operation itself went smoothly. However, I was a bit upset when the bill came. First of all, I was never explained how I was going to be charged before the procedure (since the percentage of cover depends on the service I receive, which varies from 60−80%). The bill showed that my insurance would only cover 60%. When I asked them about it, the response I got was, «go ask your insurance company». After I called my insurance company, i was told that the dental office should explain to me each of the charges since they were the one providing the service!!! So I was pretty much being kicked back and forth like a ball!
Definitely the WORST experience ever… will never go there again!!!

Great staff, wonderful for dental work BUT DO NOT GET ORTHODONTICS DONE THERE. I was told invisaligns would work for me when they clearly would not. I went to see an ortho after two years of unsuccessfully wearing the retainers and 5600 dollars later and he told me I would need teeth pulled if I wanted my teeth straight. Thank you for wasting a students valuable money and time. I am extremely disappointed. I am now spending another 8 000 to get if fixed. I feel ripped off.

The Smile Zone provides state-​of-​the-​art dental services with a large space, spanning perhaps 8 dental «workstations». The staff are friends and the dental hygienists are knowledgeable and easily approachable.
They are probably a great place to get serious dental work done. I find them a little too expensive, since I get basic cleaning work done here. Have been here twice in the last one year and I like that they automatically get a new appointment for you after six months or so with good reminder service provided by their staff, including an email reminder to re-​confirm your appointment. In this manner, I feel safe in their hands and don’t have to worry about doing my biannual cleaning.
So, apart from good dental services, they always send you home with a goodie bag, consisting of a small toothpaste, brush and floss. It seems sort of redundant, but I still like that because I use the small toothpaste in my travel pack.
The high prices of Smile Zone are understandable when you see high quality coffee, drinks available in the waiting area which seems rather redundant for a dentists’ place (did you know coffee stains the teeth?). I guess, in general I have no complaints of their service. It really is good — but as dentists are always expensive, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this place for people looking for basic health and cleaning services.
