Being from Newfoundland, I’m very picky about my Newfie cooking. The Atlantic Kitchen is the only place that I’ve found that nails it! Their cod and chips are delicious, deep fried but not too greasy. Coleslaw is usually just a side note to your meal, but theirs is so good that I think I could eat a whole plate! Sweet and not too strong. I’m not sure if they make their tartar sauce in house, but either way it is very tasty. The customer service is great, they really make you feel at home as soon as you walk in the door. It’s less of a restaurant environment and more like you’re sitting in someone’s kitchen with them. A huge added bonus is their store area! They’ve got all the classics like Jam Jams and Caramel Logs. I love being able to pick up a little dessert after my meal. Unfortunately though, they sold out of the Zest mustard pickles too fast!

When that first bite of haddock entered my mouth, my boyfriend said my eyes quivered. It is that good! I had haddock bites(full thick pieces of tender haddock covered in batter and deep fried) There was more haddock than batter, or at least 50/50…& it wasn’t too greasy. The tarter sauce was delicious, and the home fries with salt and vinegar was a yummy treat. My boyfriend got the very large original burger… he could bairly finish his plate!(and comes with real cheese, not processed cheese.)
I felt like I was back home eating a haddock meal my father had just cooked. Don’t expect anything fancy here, you get your pop in a plastic cup… but if you know your fish and chips, you’ll be pleased with both the quality and the prices.

They changed ownership here a while ago. The new owners have updated the restaurant itself, with new paint… floors etc but the same old wonderful hospitality and good food remains. They now serve traditional jigs dinner for those Newfies who are looking for a taste of home(oh and pineapple crush, birch beer and white cream soda… soon to be nacho cheezies). Still can’t update it to 5 stars as I’m still a bit upset that it’s imitation crab they use for crab bites.

If you are from the East Coast and want to walk into a restaurant back home then this is the place. East Coast food at its finest

The fish is still good. The chips weren’t the best during a recent visit, but they are the soft and kind of limp chips that many Newfoundlanders seem to prefer. If you like that kind of chip, then you should be happy enough with the chips that you’re likely to be served at The Atlantic Kitchen. Service is still very friendly.

I regret taking a friend’s advice and coming for dinner one night a few months ago. There is nothing fresh about the food coming from the kitchen. I’m sure the salmon is prepackaged and frozen. The obligatory carrots and peas certainly came from a freezer bag and the minute rice on the side was definitely not worth savouring. If this is your idea of home cooking, I feel for you. Skip this place with prejudice.

We come here occasionally when we have a craving for fish. My daughter, who is a little picky, loves the food here as well. The restaurant is cosy and basic, with nice accents of Newfoundland to decorate the interior. The staff are very friendly and accommodating and went out of their way when we informed them that someone in our party has allergies. If you like Fish n Chips, this is the place to come, tastes homemade.
