Bistro Ambrosia

My boyfriend and I have been to ambrosia a number of times because I really enjoy their caprese tomato salad and they often have very good daily soups.
Unfortunately time and time again it has been an unpleasent experience and we’ve finally given up on this restaurant.
Generally speaking this restaurant is very crowded at suppertime and loud. Not just because of the amount of people but the music as well. Service is hit and miss as well.
The experience that really finished it for us is this though:
We had a reservation for 2 at 7pm (we were celebrating 2 years together). So we arrived at 5 minutes to 7. The hostess greeted us politely but told us our table was not yet ready and we would have to wait. We figured this would only be a few minutes. We were then told to wait outside on the patio. This would be ok, except that it was a cold and rainy day. After waiting 30 minutes outside in the rain we were finally shown to our table. This table was beside a sink, under a loud speaker. I couldnt have a proper conversation with my boyfriend. Minutes later another couple sat down at a table beside us. We had seen this couple arrive to the restaurant 5 minutes ago without a reservation. 10 more minutes later a server comes and takes the new table’s order, but not ours. Finally when the server comes to us, he take our wine order and asks if were ready to order food as well. Since we’ve been waiting nearly an hour already we were starved and more then ready to order. So we told him we were ready to order. He said ok, left the table without taking our order and we didnt see him for another 10 minutes! Now we were fed up. The next time we saw our server we told him we were leaving.
Am i ever glad we did. We found Bistro Bord d’eau down the road. Great food, great service, not crowed, fantastic live music, saved our night.

Great Italian food. Good drink and wine selection. Service is poor if you go with a big group of people. There was 2 of us and everything was perfect, right up to the music!

I’ve only been a couple of times but i’ve never been disappointed. Really good food and service.
