Atmosphere: 4⁄5 Food: 3.5÷5 Service: 4⁄5 Price: 3.5÷5 Atmosphere was dark and moody but also casual enough that I didn’t feel judged for looking like Zach Galifianakis. The food was pretty standard, if not slightly above average. I’ve had their soup and salad, bison burger and fries. The burger came on a buttery brioche bun which elevated the mouth feel noticeably. What I like is that with every burger combo you get to choose two sides. What I don’t like is that this is the only option and thus makes it a little pricey for a burger if you’re not feeling super hungry. I would however like to mention that my friend ordered the warm potato salad and it was AMAZING. Would give this place a 3⁄5 star had my mouth not been graced by that savoury side saviour. Also they have $ 5 pints. Can’t really go wrong there!

State and main is definitely my go-to lunch spot. I usually start off with the calamari which are super light and crispy! For a main I either get the Cajun chicken sandwich and dill dip is a must! or the Gogi tacos which are soo soo good

Try the bruschetta. To die for. The Korean tacos were also delish! I’m looking forward to going again and trying other things on the menu!

I came here for lunch while visiting a friend while I was in town. Décor was a classic Kelsey setting or an up scale version of Montanas. The Servers were very friendly and welcoming and are very personable as well. It wasn’t too busy despite the fact it was the middle of the lunch rush. On thursday they have a great deal, $ 5 for a pint of Ontario brewed beer is a hard deal to beat! I had the grilled cheese cheese burger, it was tasty and extremely filling but i found the patty itself was dry but everything else was good. I like the fact that this location gives you a choice of two sides instead of one. I got the Cesear Salad and the jalapeño mash potatoes. Both were exceptionally delicious and definitely worth returning for. I would come back to this place if it wasn’t too busy, if it was the closest turtle jacks or any other chain restaurant would be a good alternative.

Ordered the main burger with mixed green salad and fries. I LOVE how the burgers come with TWO side choices. There are also premium choices like sweet potato fries but at an extra charge. Date choice the salmon club burger and she said it was really tasty. Her bacon was divine and I wish my burger had the bacon included too. The atmosphere is nice but its mainly for sports watching as all the many LCD tvs were tuned to sporting events. It is mainly black in colors and the staff all were black. Speaking of staff, service was good and was everything one could ask for. Food came out quick and the dishes were cleared quickly. Would come again! 4.5 stars

First time staying in Guelph, and decided to try this place. Was not disappointed. I had the New York strip. Steak was flavorful and cooked to perfection. Sides were the jalapeño mashed potatoes, which were awesome, and pan seared broccolini. Both were very good. Finished the meal off with an ice cream sandwich. Yum! Ambiance is nice, placed seemed very lively even for a Monday night. I would definitely come back here again!

This place is meh. I mean for the limited selection in Guelph, it is quite popular with a nice atmosphere. I don’t recommend eating dinner here, at least until they update the menu(hopefully soon because I would like this place to be my local spot…). All the food I have had or seen here is ALMOST good… My personal opinion on a topic: cut the jalapeños from the menu! What’s with jalapeño mashed potatoes? Yuck!

The food here is great and the beer selection is varied. I enjoyed both meals I had here.

I’ve been here 5 times now — twice for brunch and thrice for lunch. Every time I’ve tried something different and every time it has been fresh and delicious! Ambiance is a bit dark but that means nothing. Not one bad thing to say about the service either. Last time I was there, our waitress threw out the fries that I wanted to take home with my burger, so she gave me a generous amount of FRESH fries along with the TO-DIE-FOR dill dip. I can not say enough good things about that dill dip! I’ve had: — chicken wrap — eggs benny — fish tacos — sweet potato fries — quinoa salad — jalapeño cornbread — grilled chicken club — reuben SOGOOD! I LOVE this place and will probably try everything on the menu.

We decided to check this place out after hearing good things from friends. We sat on the patio so we didn’t get to see much of the inside, but the patio was nice. We ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich and the Buffalo Chicken Philly Cheese Sandwich. Both were excellent, perfectly cooked, big portions. Service was great. We will be back again to try more menu items in the future

Really enjoyed this meal. I had the grilled chicken club burger. The bun was really soft and chicken was tender. Big portion. The fries were really good. The burger comes with 2 sides. I picked fries and gravy and ginger cilantro slaw salad– really fresh taste. To drink enjoyed Grasshopper by Big Rock Brewery. My friend had the Bison Burger and was impressed. The space is nice. Small tables for two though. Service was on point. Will definitely be back!

I was pleasantly surprised with my first dinner at State and Main. It’s a new restaurant, so I expected a few hiccups. What I found instead was an attentive and well trained staff, nicely prepared food, and an upbeat environment. I’m not a fan of chain restaurants. Contrived and microwaved, I’ve simply decided to spend my money elsewhere. However, this chain is doing something a little different. I had a fresh salad, a hamburger that was hand made, and a selection of local beer. While it’s a chain, it didn’t feel like a chain. For more than just it’s proximity to a movie theatre, if State and Main continues to excel in these areas, this neighbourhood bar will become a staple of the area.
