Here’s the thing. I can’t honestly review Birks without getting super sentimental and nostalgic. I just can’t. It’s impossible. I love Birks. Almost everything I have from there has a story or a memory attached to it. It’s been a part of my growing up, a part of my family. From my mother’s engagement ring, to the Bunnykins sets that are given to every new baby, to the ornament sets that come out only at Christmas. I have tiny elephant earrings that remind me of my father and that I wear for good luck. I have pearls that remind me of the strong person I’ve become. It’s all wrapped up in me, what can I say? Be sure to stop in often to check out the always changing vintage section. It’s amazing how intricate jewelery can be made. I just wish they had more in yellow gold to admire, but they can create most rings and such out of any metal you like. Just ask the super helpful staff members and they’ll guide you through the processes.

Definitely one of the more expensive jewellry stores around, this is a classy place. Being a bit on the clumsy, uncoordinated side, I’m just happy I managed to get in and out of this beautiful shop with both the merchandise and my credit card balance intact(I can only assume they have some kind of «you break it, you buy it» policy). In all seriousness, the fiancé and I had a good experience overall in this store when we went in to look for wedding bands. The sales associate who helped us out was very friendly, and it almost felt like she read my mind and knew exactly what I was looking for. Which was a relief as up to this point I was having a tough time finding a wedding band I liked at other jewellers. I ended up finding the perfect ring, and relatively in my price range too(also a relief as we are definitely planning our wedding on a budget). Mike and I had a good laugh after leaving the store however, at the price difference between the rings she showed me and the ones she presented to him.($ 300-$ 400 for me, and $ 1800 and up for him). Apparently he looks a bit more well-to-do than I do. As you may have guessed, he didn’t end up buying his wedding band here, but it was still a positive experience as I was definitely happy with my purchase. They also gave us the royal treatment, even serviing us sparkling water in champagne glasses(which I thought was a nice touch).
