This event finally got me to check out the new TIBS, not quite as hipster as the original location and a little less atmosphere seating wise. We played Apples to Apples(jr) and I’ve got to say even though not a lot of people got my rationale/or I came 1st runner up, I did enjoy the game. It was for sure a challenge playing with people you don’t know all that well, but I think the adult version would be a great game to play with a group of friends you know really well. The group dynamics helped to make the game fun, who liked a straight laced answer, who liked irony, humor etc. Comfy couches and some mini croissants completed the event.

This one only gets four stars just because, as anyone who attended the event can tell you, Apples To Apples is not my jam. Things got heated, we managed to make several offensive jokes despite playing with a children’s game, and I yelled«But it’s ironic!» more than Alanis Morrisette ever has. That said, it was pretty fun to hang out with a bunch of people and play for a couple hours, even if the game is a bit too… unstructured for my rule-lovin’ ways. The TIBS Halifax Waterfront location was a great spot to play, especially since we scored a couple of couches.

Apple to apples… the«junior edition», need I say any more ladies and gents. This event was hilarious. We played at the newest TIBS location in historic properties. The cheese croissants were scrumptious, great company, plenty of arguments that were not child friendly, numerous references to Ben being a fox t. v Judge and no one understanding the ironic card. All in all a great afternoon was had !

Had a fun time, played to the judges personalities and came up around the top! Wound up at TIBS randomly, but turned into a great time, and it looks like we’ll be attending more of the Board Game Olympics in future months! But seriously… why was that«Bruises» card in the 9+ Age version of this game? How many green card words could have really worked for bruises??? Adorable? Lovable? Sneaky? Come on…

How good was this? So good that everyone was so focussed on the game that almost no one tweeted of took pics. But it happened, people, it happened! The venue for this round was the sorta-food-court-thing by Two if by Sea’s Halifax location. And a Subway. But let’s focus on TIBS for a second. Since they opened up their Halifax location, I knew that TIBS had«TIBS bits» but hadn’t yet tried one. Our host, the always gracious(except when he’s losing), Ben, picked some up for the group. I popped a cheese mini-croissant in my mouth and it was delish! And for $ 1.50, it’s just the right price. It satisfies your craving for buttery TIBS goodness without breaking the bank or clogging your arteries. No, the game. The theme for this round was Apples to Apples. I brought along my junior edition(aged 9+) but was confident someone else would have a more mature version. Alas… Still, it was a fun time. If you’ve never played, here’s the basics: the judge draws a random adjective card(e.g. «sneaky») and each player tosses in a card(face-down, so you don’t immediately know who owns which card) of nouns. The judge then decides which noun card is the best response. Sounds straightforward, right? No. No, it is not. Some people aim for humour, some aim for fact and some aim for irony. Since this was the junior edition, it made it all the more interesting since we tried to make it more mature. And usually failed. Make no mistake, the simple premise becomes more complex as you realize that you don’t play the cards, you play the judge. You carefully select which of your five random cards is most apt and place your bet. Everyone got at least one win in which, is nice, I guess. I mean, I won three cards but I’m not. How many did Rob get? 7? !@#$#^% And everyone played! We had 11 people all playing the same game. I haven’t made it to all the Board Game Olympics but I’m guessing that’s a first? All in all, a fun time.
