Canadian Bacon Cookhouse

First World Problem — When there’s more bacon than you have time.
Had the Bacon Butty, bacon with more bacon and it was awesome. The other items on the menu looked amazing as well but I didn’t have the time or Lipitor to try the rest. Another time Halifax, another time!

Bacon!!! What’s more to say? We stopped by to see if why it’s so pink and we got Bacon! Bacon is always great!

I wanted to spend some time on the waterfront on Canada Day just so I could try this place out. The day turned out to be crappy weather but we went anyway. The rain stopped as we arrived so all was good. Not too many around so no line-​up.
I was able to head right to the window and order. With only five sandwiches on the menu you ‘d think it would be easy to pick something but it’s not, they all sound so delicious. Finally having to choose something I selected the Simply Dill-​iscious; peameal bacon, bacon strips, old Canadian cheddar, dill pickles, crunchy dill pickle chips and garlic mayo on a Kaiser .
Listened to the staff shout out piggy puns, I didn’t have to wait too long for my order to be ready. Biting into the sandwich I found a nice, unique combination of flavours in every bite. I like the crunch added by the dill pickle chips. Nice fresh bun and ingredients make for a tasty, hearty sandwich.
At $ 9 for a sandwich & beverage, it’s not something I’d be having everyday but I do plan on trying every sandwhich on the menu… at some point.

BACON! I feel like that is all I really need to say, but to be serious Canadian Bacon Cookhouse makes a great sandwich. I had the Simply «Dill“icious sandwich which totally rocked, it had really good quality bacon, pickles and dill pickle chips. My friends had the club and I was basically drooling over it but avocado and bacon are basically my 2 favourite things.
We checked it out opening weekend and you could tell that the owner enjoyed what he was doing and he spent a few minutes talking to us, letting us know about what they had to offer and joking around (bacon/​pork puns included).
As a treat I got a piece of chocolate covered bacon (served on a stick) to share and was not disappointed. I think it was a fun way of selling it and it will be funny to see tourists walking around the waterfront this summer eating bacon on a stick.

A friend and I went down to the waterfront to watch the late Canada Day fireworks with her daughter. We decided a harbourside snack was in order, and what better snack than something bacon related! I had the Porkabello — a big white bun with arugula, portabello mushrooms, caramelized onions, goat cheese, an awesome sauce and 2 different kinds of bacon. Omg yum. Not for the faint of heart, this sandwich packed a punch! A little messy to eat, but totally delicious.
My friend had the Bacon Butty and loved it too. She knows her bacon, and was very impressed.
Despite the fact that it was busy, they were pretty quick with our order, and it was hot and delicious. The prices are definitely reasonable for the boardwalk. I’ll be back.

The pun loving and social media active Canadian Bacon Cookhouse was one of the food kiosks to recently open on the boardwalk. In a pink hut, they’re pretty hard to miss and were getting the attention of tourists’ and locals’ cameras and appetites, after only being officially open for an hour.
There was a hold up on the delivery of their menu board, so I was given the rundown quickly. Five or six bacon-​based sandwiches formed the backbone of the tiny menu, all quite reasonably priced at $ 6 – 8, taxes in, which is both inexpensive and handy for cash payment. I chose to try out their basic sandwich, The Butty, which came with both back and thick cut belly bacon, caramelized onion, a cursory tomato, and their signature sauce — slop sauce. Ordering and pick up were a bit haphazard as of the two windows, neither was designated as a specific window, although this may have been sorted out by now.
There was a few people ahead of me in the line, so I gladly took in the sights and sounds of the boardwalk before my sandwich was soon in hand and I sauntered over to a nearby table to dig in. Luckily the juicy sandwich came in a foil wrapper so you could eat it on the go quite easily without getting particularly messy, and it also came with a wad of napkins, which came in handy for me.
There was a generous amount of meat in the sandwich, with a few pieces of both the back and belly bacon. The back bacon was moist and got some nice, light browning from the flat top, and while the thick cut bacon may not be as crisp as thinner cuts, it packed a lot of flavour. The caramelized onions’ sweetness went well with all of that pork, although really they go with anything. The exact flavour of the tangy slop sauce was hard to place, but it worked nicely to cut through the rich meat and onions. The bun did commendably well to contain its juicy insides and didn’t fall to mushy pieces.
At $ 6 this is a hell of a deal to get a quality sandwich in an area that can be prone to lightening the weight of tourists’ wallets. I’m looking forward to summer walks down the boardwalk all the more!

Great addition to the waterfront! I had the Gourmet Porkabella and it was amazingly delicious. Lots of different elements but all of the flavours worked well together. My friend tried the the Bacon Club and was equally happy. I also had a bacon lollipop (chocolate covered bacon on a stick) which was surprisingly tasty. I don’t know if the lollipops will be a regular feature or if it was an opening weekend special.
There was a bit of a wait for our sandwiches, which could be because they’ve just opened, but the food is worth the wait. I’ll be going back again (soon!) to try some of their other items.
