Hard to beat for the price. Nothing fancy about the restaurants, one is even a mobile bus. The pieces of fish are done just right and the fries are very good. My wife is a fan of their fish tips.

Ordered fish & chips. 15 minute wait with two people ahead of me at 8:30pm. Fish was good. Batter was soggy. Fries were good.

If you don’t like shellfish, fish or just generally you don’t like consuming seafood… there’s no good reason for you to be walking on the waterfront in Hali. Seriously. Nova Scotia prides itself on Digby scallops and atlantic seafood so… ya… you best get on that boat. My man & I were walking along Barrington on a hot sunny day so we made our way to the cool waterfront — there was fog rolling in and we were craving some seafood! I’ve heard some awesome comments about this place(featured in almost every issue of Haligonia or w/e halifax’s magazine is called) so we tried it Honestly, the prices are fair. Not dirt cheap but not insanely expensive either. I ordered the lobster roll and he ordered the 1pc fish & chips. We kinda held our laughs because the 1 pc was sooo small, slightly larger than a haddock tip… I think we got the runt of the catches. However, the flavour was definitely there. My roll was good… but nothing i’d jump through fire and change the course of human events for. Ya know? It was on a hot dog bun with just your regular stuff. I will give points to the fact that the lobster was actually real… none of this gunk from a can poop. I always make a point to acknowledge the fries in my reviews. Here goes. Think of mcdonald’s skinny fries meets hand cut fries. Oh yea. A + for effort and D for delicious. the atmosphere on the waterfront is beautiful too. I mean, you can actually watch birds puff up their feathers trying to impress the females or even have birds perch on your head and look at you as if to say: «Mine. Mine. Mine.» I wasn’t overly impressed with the food but I definitely want a round two… and i’ll be ordering the clams next time!!! TIP: THEGIRLTOLDMETHATTHISPLACECLOSESINOCTOBER!!!

I loveThe Battered Fish so much its embarrassing. I know better than to eat fried greasy food like this. But my love for seafood runs deep, and dip that stuff in batter and fry it in hot fat, and I’m your gal. I was devastated when they closed the Scotia Square location. I work in the building so this was often where I would go for my seafood fix. For a very long while I was totally addicted to the fish burger,(, gotta have it with that lovely spicy signature sauce. MWAH!)Eventually I ventured out and tried quite a few things on the menu, haddock bites, fish & chips, the coconut shrimp, Calamari. I love them all. These guys know how to do seafood right. I did once stop at the waterfront location to grab some fries and ate them walking home. But tonight, feeling quite hungry and still not feeling like I had enough fresh air and sunshine today(after being practically outside all day) I decided to stroll down the hill and give it try. I got the clams and fries and just like everything else I’ve eaten there they were marvellous. just the right amount of batter and again, dipped in their signature sauce. I decided to stay and eat this time, and took a stroll all the way down to the other end of the waterfront(In front of the NS Power building) Love it down there. So much quieter, sitting on a bench, watching the boats go sailing by, the sound of the sloshing waves, chompin on my clams. 27 degrees. Summer in Halifax doesn’t get much better than that. P. S. Don’t be scared off by the long line up. I’ve stood in a line up every single time and its always worth it. you cant leave. Just like the line at the NSLC on Christmas eve.

If you spend anytime at all on the waterfront in the summer you’ve definitely walked by The Batter Fish and saw their long, long, line-ups and kept walk. Here is my advice: Stop! The line will move faster than you think — and it’s worth the wait anyway. Plus, if you’re anything like me you’re going to need that extra wait time to figure out what you want to order. Their menu is awesome — Offering various types of poutine; they throw a ‘Maritime’ twist on one of them by adding haddock tips. The fish tacos(my favorite) are packed with a very tasty white sauce and salsa. Not a fish fan? They have chicken tacos also! Some items on their menu are on the pricy side(coconut shrimp, lobster roll, battered scallops) but they offer lots of other things at great prices — and they have daily specials which is usually the way to go! Fish are friends, and food :)

Had a two piece fish and chips for only $ 10 and it was delicious. The fries could’ve been better but they were still a bargain at the price I paid. The fish on the other hand might have been the best I’ve ever tasted, highly recommend trying it if you’re in the area and want something cheap.

Yeah, I may not have had many lobster rolls in my life but this isn’t it. The mayo is spiked with wasabi or horseradish that does nothing for the lobster. The bun isn’t right, isn’t toasted and isn’t buttered.

Don’t let the little shack fool you. A great location on the Harbourwalk serving up straight forward fresh fish/clams/seafood & chips makes it a great place for anyone loving open air food. Great portions and good food.

I decided I wanted a lobster roll today, quite out of the blue, and so I went down to the Waterfront to see what I could find. After my grand experience with The Battered Fish of Bedford(that totally sounds like awesome fairy tale), I decided to try this location’s version. I really, really, really didn’t want french fries, so I asked if it was possible to have the roll on it’s own. Hurrah! It totally was. So be sure to ask if you don’t want fries, they do it, they just don’t seem to advertise it. The roll was pretty ok. The lobster tasted as if it had been recently cooked, but its meat was mostly chopped up knuckle and claw meat. I searched for a nice chewy tail piece, but there was none to enjoy. The mayo was a bit heavy, but the lettuce was crisp and fresh. The bun was the best part, somehow. I don’t know, it was just a really great, buttery bun. I would go back, and I would order this again. I just wouldn’t order it as often as those beautifully fried clams.

The deep-fried haddock served on poutine is genius! Big-bite-size crispy battered fish kissed by gravy and cheese curds on a bed of hot fries, which you eat surrounded by canny pigeons on the Halifax waterfront, could only be a good thing. I wish I could go back for seconds.

This is honestly my favourite place on the Halifax harbourfront. It is absolutely delicious. My favourite thing to get is their panko crusted haddock tips. They are like little morsels of deliciousness in my mouth and you get quite a bit for a decent price! The fish tastes fresh and even though it’s deep fried, it doesn’t feel oily. Definitely a must try if you’re in Halifax!

If you are not a Seafood person, you might think this is not the spot for you just cause of the name. Well think twice, cause this is the spot that you want to try out for hotdogs too! My girl friend ordered their signature plate(fish and chips). I’m not sure if the quantity is fair but i personally thought that the chips were watch filling the box while 2 lil pieces floated on top. On a brighter note, the thin crispy batter is amazingly done and the taste is defiantly not questionable. Also, the fries were fresh and crispy delicious. If there is anything that you might be septic about, it would only be the quantity for the price. But hey, sometimes its more about the quality over quantity(depending how hungry you are!) As for what i think people need to dig more into is their diverse menu. Although their signature meal is the fish and chips, i strongly recommend the foot-long Hotdog! Yes, it a whole foot-long one. So if you starving, jump on that, or i should just say go for that: p !. Not only that its long, but the taste is amazing and with the option of adding molten cheese to it, you could never regret that extra $ 0.50 dollars they are asking for. As of the location, there is nothing better than our beloved Halifax Water front. The a Patio space constructed, now you could enjoy sitting down and finishing up you big meal with the family. The Battered Fish is by far one of the must-go spots at the waterfront in the summer. Make it a ritual, you won’t regret it.

What a great little spot this is for Fish and chips. We stopped here on our way to the Silva to grab a pre-cruise snack and I was amazed at how delicious the fish and chips was… As a local, one is sometime skeptical of water front places but this one really blew me away. The fish had a nice light and crispy batter, the fries were done to perfection and they offered a great choice of sides as opposed to just the traditional tartare sauce. I had a try of the wasabi mayo and it really lit up my fish and chips! I’ll definitely be stopping by again the next time I’m on the waterfront!

I’ve been hearing about this place every year when the Coast’s Best of Foods comes out — it’s usually in the top 3 — so I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Well, I can tell you that the fish is definitely in my top 3 — it’s pretty delicious fish if you ask me! The batter is pretty thin, which I think is the way to go. Too many places make fish and chips with too much batter and not enough fish. The fish pieces are pretty big too — I got the 2 pc but found that it would’ve been nice to have a 3rd — maybe it was my stomach talking though. I really think that the Battered Fish has great fish — but it falls short almost everywhere else. The portions for fries are pretty small, and they use shoe string fries — not really my style. It’s also around $ 9 for a 2 pc fish and chips. Lastly, my friends ordered the coconut shrimp, the mediterranean burger and the popcorn chicken poutine — all which were okay but too much for what they were.

Me: I think I want fish and chips for lunch. Coworker: go to The Battered Fish. Best fish and chips you’ll ever have. Thats setting the bar awfully high as I’ve had lots of great fish and chips. But hey, if this is the best ever, well it’ll be worth wading through the sea of construction to get to it. So off I go. There is a slight line up but nothing major. The weather on this day was nice so it looked like lots of people had taken advantage to get out of the office for a bit for lunch. I was told to try the fish burger, but instead decided on a 2-piece meal. I stood back to wait for my meal, enjoyed the sun and spent a few minutes people watching. When my name was called I grabbed my handy little box of food, popped a fork out of the nifty fork dispenser, and grabbed a bench to have my lunch. The pieces were a bit on the small side, but not so much so that made me think I’d been ripped off. There were plenty of handcut, crispy fries, with just enough salt on them to make them tasty. The fish appeared to have been cooked just a smidge too long as it was darker than I expected and prefer. But, it was crispy and light, with just the right amount of batter. Visually, things were off to a good start. The fish itself, however, was bland. There was no flavor. It just didn’t taste like anything. I don’t know what kind of fish they use, but this stuff had no flavor. I couldn’t put enough tartar on it to give it a little zing. Was this the best F&C ever? No. Was it the worst ever? No. In my books that honor belongs to a pub on the west coast. Perhaps this day was a one-off. Maybe next time it’ll be better.

Whenever I bring a salad to work for lunch, I can’t get excited for lunch time. It’s just not possible. Fortunately, having The Battered Fish within walking distance down the boardwalk from my office is an easy cure for the veggie-blues. Now that it’s warm enough for the BF to be open, but early enough that there isn’t the constant crowd that’s there during the tourist season, it’s the perfect time to go. While I may have foregone my salad, I still had some dietary conscience, so I stuck with a one piece fish and chips($ 6.49). After a short wait while I people watched and chatted with my co-workers, my name was called and a handy box containing my meal was passed to me. The fish was a little on the small side, coming in at half the size of many of the other offerings in the city. The flavour and quality made it worthwhile though, with a light, perfectly golden-brown batter and fresh, flaky fish. The fries are hand-cut and skin on shoestrings, with a little bit of crunch to them and good potatoey flavour. I should have gone with the regular salt over the fancy schamncy sea salt though as the large granules of sea salt tended to mostly bounce off the thin fries. I’m definitely going to make a few more visits to the Battered Fish before the boardwalk gets too crazy and am looking forward to more fryer deliciousness, while the salads take a backseat.

Craving a little bit of lunchtime grease? Then this is the place for you! I tried the Battered Fish for the first time today at lunch and oh man, it was a piece of fish and chip heaven. It’s closeness to work may become a problem. So for lunch I tried the haddock tips with fries and cole slaw, and it was delicious. I LOVEFRENCHFRIES and these guys do a nice fry. Perfectly shoe-string, perfectly crunchy, so so good. There’s also two options for salt(sea salt or normal table) — which at first seemed like a good idea, but huge chunks of sea salt on fries somehow didn’t work. Good in theory, not super awesome in practice, I think. Haddock tips were flaky and were dunked in just the right amount of batter. And they clearly have some good frying skills, they were done perfectly. A nice surprise was the cole slaw, which I rarely anticipate. I love me some cabbage(yeah, it’s weird), and I thought the Battered Fish does an excellent slaw. Just the right amount of tartness and creaminess. BIG win. I’d go to eat that alone. Another win? Everything came to $ 8. EIGHTDOLLARS. Can’t beat that Halifax. Visit the Battered Fish — next on my list: the lobster roll. I hear she’s a winner. Frankly, I’m pumped.

As a non-fish-eater, you’d probably think there aren’t many reasons for me to love our waterfront fish ‘n chips hut, but yet love them I do. Why? Easy. 1) They can tell you exactly where the fish comes from. We live on the water and we have incredible seafood, so why order it in from god know’s where? TBF gets theirs from a local fish market meaning it’s fresh, it’s Atlantic Canadian, and it’s supporting local fishermen. 2) They pump their menu full of creative treats from wasabi mayo and other sauce creations, to mouth-watering poutine variations that make use of specialty cheeses and spiced gravies. Deeelish. 3) The fries. They’re cut in-house, they’re topped with sea salt, they’re thin and crispy, and they’re served hot and fresh. Plus they give you a reason to use the cool fork dispenser. Seriously, check that ‘ish out.
