My department had our holiday party at Bowlarama! We were going to order pizza but decided to have a ‘sit down dinner’ instead. Since the Red Fox was right around the corner, and none of us have been there before, we decided to give it a go. It was dark and kind of dingy but very open. There were lots of seats available; we picked a huge corner booth. We ordered the Fox Party Platter to start. Piled with nachos, potato skins, pepperoni, chicken wings and onions rings, we dug in and enjoyed it all! I had the clams with the ‘Fox Fries’ — get them if you go here. They are hand cut fries covered in a mix of spices. 3 people in our party ordered the ribs, it was a special. 1 of the 3 was not like the other! Two looks great, the other one looked dry and lacking sauce. They have a fairly big menu with lots of different options. The food is what you would expect at any standard ‘bar and grill’ in my opinion. I heard the Red Fox has good wings — unfortunately, their wing night specials end pretty early in the evening, and they’re a little out of my way, so I’ve never tried them — yet.

I suppose you pretty much get what you expect when you ho for pub food, out this place was on the low end of the scale. Note I realize we were a substantial group but the poor waitress was clearly completely overwhelmed. Some of us were done eating long before others were served. The mashed potatoes were so dry that they were visibly cracked. Once you got passed the crust, the remainder had the consistency of play dough. The beer selection was good though. A-level varieties bottled and on tap. As a watering hole, I would give it a posing grade. I think they tried, they really did… But don’t expect anything here better than nachos and wings. And rest assured that you can probably get better out of a box from the supermarket.

The height of glamour in Halifax! No, not really, obviously. But this is still one hell of a great time! I’ve started going here fairly regularly, as my man’s fabulous mom is involved with the local karaōke scene here. I hadn’t done any public singing in quite some time, but they did manage to coax me up on stage once(the rum and cokes they serve here helped quite a bit too!) The song selection is beyond huge. It’s the size of two phone books, I swear, and it doesn’t even hold everything! Gordie, the host on Thursdays, is always willing to track down a song for you on the off chance he doesn’t already have a copy. The best part of this place though, is the crowd of regulars. Everyone knows each other, they know the songs they sing, and they’re so damn sweet to each other! It’s like being part of a secret club. Watching these people get up there and sing pop hits or country classics, it’s obvious that they have histories. These people have lived. To share that atmosphere is pretty special. Also, they have killer potato skins. Seriously, eat them.

Chrissy, Elaine and I had lunch today at the Red Fox Tavern We got caught up with Mark, the new owner(we went to high school and university together), before he left to take his son to a football game. Chrissy and Elaine were in the mood for breakfast so ordered the steak and eggs(it was two-for-one). They said it was good. I had lasagna. It was a large portion and filling(I couldn’t eat it all). If you are in the Bayers Road area, you should check it out. They have a variety of bands in the evening ranging from Celtic to rap.

Most of these comments have hit the nail on the coffin. The Red Fox is an old school establishment that is one of the few ‘jewels’ left from the pre-Bayers Lake migration of Bayers Road Shopping Centre establishments of the mid to late 90’s. I head out here with my mother once in a while; she orders the chicken wings and I either get the clubhouse and fries or the lasagna. The restaurant is essentially divided into two areas — the ‘karaōke’ area when you enter through the front door and the ‘liars’ area if you go in through the back — I say this about the back area since it is home to the famous liar’s club and liar’s table. The food is pretty good on the whole although there are some questionable characters in there later in the night; however, I guess this adds to the experience. Thursday nights is generally packed because it is wing night and karaōke later in the evening; there are also shuffleboard tables in the liar’s area.

The Red Fox is your typical tavern; lots of beer, lots of seats and lots of interesting people. Why not head over to the Red Fox on a Thursday night; with delicious wings, great beer and interesting entertainment nothing can be better. Wings are $.50 and are huge and tasty, and beer is relatively inexpensive. Service was OK, but absolutely nothing special. Don’t forget; not only are Thursday’s wing night, they are also Karaōke night. So if your in the mood to sing your heart out without judgment this is a good place to do it.

This is a place that everyone at my work goes to on Friday nights.. I think this may be as low brow as you can get for a pub. Which I suppose is why we all love going there. Their pitchers are at a good price and you’re certainly never going to feel as though you’ve committed any social faux pas while being a patron of this place. Aside maybe from the ultimate social faux pas of hanging out at a place that is no way cool, high brow or downtown. I loved it.

I’ve actually have been here multiple times. At first I didn’t like it because of it being a little dingy, smoky, and a lot of cross-eyed people like to just hang out here. Anyway, the food that I’ve was actually really good. I don’t do Seafood at restaurants, so I’ve had the lasagna, club sandwich, chicken fingers, poutine and nachos. I liked everything They give you a card and you get a stamp for every meal you have, and Tuesday are double stamps. Once the card is full, you get $ 10 off your next meal…

The Red Fox is one of those old school tavern’s. It has been there through a few generations. It offers, entertainment, Dj’s and tavern food. I would say the food will satisfy the craving, the Thursday night wings are an overall hit for everyone.

Have to agree with other the reviewer. Red Fox has been around for a long time. Same pub food as every where else, service is good as usual. I would say it has lost it’s character that it once had back in the 80’s. On the up side, wings on Thursday night are awesome.

Red Fox Tavern has been know to the Bayer’s Road area for a long time. It has gone through many changes along with the mall itself and still seems to hang in there. Rex Fox is home to Thursday night wings for all to enjoy. Good size wings that are extremely tasty. I remember many night at the Fox and listing to many bands over the many weekend. We always used to have our high school reunions there due to the lay out of the bar. Large open space. If the band is not there then it is either Karaōke night or a house DJ is always there to entertain. Large fully stocked bar at the front of the room houses a wide range of on tap as well at the good hard stuff. all food at the tavern is actually very good, they have amazing burgers and french fries. Go check it out and enjoy a night of wings and entertainment.
