Sakura Sushi Express

Recently taken under new ownership, this is one of those places that you hope stays around forever. Pros are very fresh tasty sushi, a simple menu, excellent service, and very fair prices. Best of all, this business truly cares about its customers. The first time I went, the owner came and introduced himself and asked for our feedback. He even made personal suggestions and brought us sushi to try for free. They are so keen on their service that sometimes they will give you free food out of the blue. For instance, today, I was waiting a mere 5 minutes for my takeout and the owner brought me an order of sweet potato tempura, and told me the food wouldn’t be long. This wait would be considered normal for most restaurants, but they want to go the extra step for you. The woman behind the counter was incredibly friendly and brought me lemon water and crackers as she ask me to take a seat. I was impressed with how cheap my order was, and I glanced at my receipt and she had automatically grouped my sushi rolls as a maki combo, even though I didn’t specifically ask for the combo, which saved me $ 5 on my order. They will refill your water automatically, always ask you for more tea, and bring you miso soup and/​or salad automatically while waiting for your food. Empty dishes won’t last more than 2 minutes on your table. It’s these little things that edge this little spot ahead of the competitors. The only cons I have found are that the stir fried udon noodles are a bit bland (although cooked perfectly), and the spot is fairly small if you want to sit more than 4 people for dining in.

Great food, friendly staff and reasonable prices! This will become a weekly sushi spot.

Have only had sushi here once, but it was amazing! The man at the front served us miso soup while we waited for our take out. (FOR FREE!) He also suggested the Golden Crisp Roll (I think it was called?) It was to die for.
We will definitely be going back there when we’re in that part of town and hungry again!

First time in, and I think I’ll be back for another round!
My friends and I had made dinner plans and they’d fallen through. We started walking and spotted this quiet little place and said why not?
This why not was totally worth it!
They have 2 very good combo plates!
Being hungry I ordered the 3 piece combo!
I had spicey tuna, sweet potato and California rolls…
Oh man! Was so good!
I have only one complaint, (for me it’s a big deal but to others it’s minor)
I’m not a regular sushi girl so I’m not well informed on ingredients… I have a big list of foods I can’t eat. I didn’t see any place with the rolls broken down so you can see for yourself what’s in them… HOWEVER if you ask they will tell you!
We were brought a bowl of miso soup… I was totally not expecting it. I tasted it, then found out it has tofu in it, I’m allergic so I abruptly stopped eating it. What I did taste of it was good!
Now on to the sushi it’s self!
Sushi lovers know my choices were all maki.
Lets start with the spicey tuna roll!
I first discovered tuna rolls at Fujiyama, so I thought I liked it there, lets try it!
I really enjoyed it! It had a great balence! There was tuna and something crunchy in the roll, it was so good! I devoured all 6 pieces first! The sauce omg YUM!
Just the right amount of heat!

On to the sweet potato!
It was exactly as advertised a spicey sweet potato roll! I enjoyed it with reckless abandon knowing it was completely safe to eat, I repeat again the sauce was DELISH!
The California rolls was your standard roll, nothing amazing! But if you want a safe bet there it is!
Now location, it’s nestled in beside an Asian grocery shop and 2 doors from Boneheads, in my opinion a perfect place for a sweet little shop! It’s very simple in design! 1 step in, 3 – 4 tables the counter and 2 bathrooms.
The colours are good for the feel of the place!
To sum up, I will be back! Especially for that Tuna roll!

My first time here, the food was good and the price is pretty reasonable. Especially the Yaki udon.

Sakura Sushi Express is the no-​frills little sister of Sakura Sushi House in Bedford. I’ve never been to that location — but I’ve had the sushi express a few times now, and will continue having a few more times!
It is a very small restaurant — they only have 4 or 5 tables for eat-​in guests. I’ve never sat in, I’ve only ever had take-​out. Order time fluctuates depending on what time of the day you go. At lunch time I’ve waited over 30 minutes for my counter order — which is a general waiting time at traditional take-​out spots, but not for something classified as «Express». Nevertheless, the service is pleasant and the prices are, seriously, unbeatable! It is around $ 12 for three rolls, of your choice! My Hamachi House lunches have definitely decreased since this place opened.
The BBQ Eel roll is my favourite! Close second is the spicy sweet potato and the tempura shrimp rolls — Yum!
