It’s hard to find reasonably-priced, quality men’s wear that isn’t designed for skate parks. Tip Top is a good choice … when they have a sale. Fortunately on Black Friday they did! This is another store in the Halifax Shopping Centre that, like Cole’s, has been downsizing due to rent increases. This location used to have more space and selection, as well as their own in-house tailor, and it’s disappointing to see them squished into such a small space now. Selection has been affected and making your way through the store when it’s busy is nigh impossible. Still, one sucks it up for a good sale. :-) Their dress shirts are good quality and come in a variety of colours. Mike found what he was looking for(a hard-to-find red for Christmas, actually) and I found a scarf for a relative. The prices were right, although staff did not help us on the floor. They also charge $ 4 for gift boxes now, which was disappointing. Needless to say we went without. Men over 25 don’t have a whole lot of clothing store selection in the mall. Hopefully this location will stick it out(and have good Boxing Day sales as well).

I came in here with my mom under fairly sad circumstances. There had been a death in our family and I needed to get my bf a new jacket to wear to the funeral the following day. We were pleasantly greeted by a gentleman I believe was the manager and I can see why he was. He was really helpful and made a difficult time for us a little bit easier. He quickly pulled several jackets and explained what they would go best with and was completely lovely when answering my questions. I preferred this experience to being in the store in Mic Mac where I found the female staff a little underwhelmingly helpful and not as knowledgeable.

Needed to suit up for a wedding and the groom decided to all get our tuxes at Tip Top. I’ve gone to weddings before and got suited at Moore’s — but it’s pretty much the same deal everywhere you go. The only thing that I see that are factors that can really change is the price and the friendliness of the staff. The gentleman that helped me out at this location — can’t remember his name — was really friendly and knowledgeable. The wedding is in Sydney too, so there was a bit of a complication on whether the tux would be sent to their Sydney location, or picked up there or just picked up at the Halifax location and taken to Sydney. The great thing was the he went through all my options and discussed them with me. I didn’t leave the shop with any ambiguity. He also said that I could come a week before pick up date and try everything on — if something didn’t fit perfectly, then they would resize it. Great customer service although I’m not sure if this is standard practice. The end kind of left me a bit sad though — I rented a tux from Moore’s about 6 months ago and the cost was about $ 130. Here, it’s going to cost me almost $ 100 more.
