Glenerin Inn offers you a warm relaxed atmosphere. It has great dining for breakfast, lunch, or dinner along with famous Sunday Brunch. It is a great place for corporate meetings, weddings, social events, romantic retreat, or what you decide.

History

Established in 1927.

The Glenerin Inn was built in 1927 by Watson Evans, a lawyer from Toronto. His main residence was in the Rosedale area of Toronto and the Glenerin Inn was used primarily as a summer residence.

Mr. Evans died in 1932. In 1940 St. Hilda’s residential girls school in Whitby, England (north coast of England) arrived in Canada. Mrs. Evans was a graduate of Trinity College and was in failing health, unable to use her weekend retreat, Glenerin Lodge. Thus, the house, readied itself to receive 8 staff members and 90 children for the duration of the war.

1961 the building was sold and became St. Basil’s Novitiate.

1970 Don Mills Development (Cadillac Fairview Corp. Ltd.) purchased the property

Someplace (s) Different Ltd. purchased the property in 1984 and began extensive renovations and restorations to convert the building into an Inn, which opened its doors in 1986

Our dining room is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week. Our four outdoor patios allow you to enjoy the peaceful setting of the Inn and Sawmill Valley while sipping on a glass of wine or local micro-brewed beer. The Inn is know for our award winning Sunday brunch and we are a very popular destination for Mother’s day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day Buffets. We offer what most hotels cannot get in the city which is a serene setting with all the technological advances of some of the larger brand hotels. Went for Sunday Brunch, approx. $ 35 per person. ABSOLUTELY overpriced for the quality of food that was presented. Also, a very limited selection of choices for such an «upscale» brunch.
Would not suggest this if you actually enjoy good food.

We have held many events at the Glenerin over the years. The service is always amazing and the facilities are one of a kind. Diners, scotch tastings, business meetings, patio bands… We love it there.

Avoid at all costs. Value for money and service is no where near what one would expect. The restaurant was not arranged well, place settings inconsistent, cutlery under the table, wine selection was poor… and they add the gratuity to your bill. If you are on a limited budget and need to feel like you are in an upscale old-world type location, go crazy. But is service and value matters, spend your money elsewhere.

My husband and I got married at the Glenerin Inn on March 2014. It met our expectations of a small, intimate wedding, and we had a great time!
We weren’t sure what to expect because of the mixed reviews, but we decided to give it a shot anyways (why not? we’re originally from Mississauga, this place has history, and we wanted to start off our happy ever after in a local area).
We gave the Inn two weeks’ notice that we wanted to fly home from the West Coast to get married, and they were more than happy to accommodate us. Our guests weren’t sure what to expect since most people plan their weddings months, maybe even a year ahead of time, but we wanted to prove that this could be done in a fun, and stress– free way.
The room was perfect size for a party of 50, and everything looked beautiful/elegant. We didn’t do much extra decorating (aside from the centre pieces) because I wanted to leave everything simple, elegant and original.
The food was amazing– we had steak, salmon, or mushroom risotto as our choices, and the portion sizes were bigger than expected. We got a lot of compliments from our guests too!
If you’re looking for an intimate, warm, cozy gathering then I would suggest the Glenerin Inn! Price is very fair (we got a few «on the house» too), food is great, rooms are very cute, service is friendly.

We were at the Glenerin Inn for a wedding. It was disappointing at best.
First: the good.
The actual Inn has some old world charm and the back patio faces some really nice wooded area.
The main banquet room was quite nice and they did a good job of the actual reception.
The mediocre:
The overall size of the place is much smaller than what it looks like in the pictures. So if you are expecting something sprawling, spacious or grand, you will be disappointed.
What really needs improvement:
1. The service! The service is awful.

The wait staff is rather rude and seems to have some sort of a chip on their shoulder.
Example: The paid-for-by-the-host (as in not free!) breakfast buffet closes at 9.30 am. Some folks from our party showed up with their kids at a little after 9. So there is still a full 25 minutes to go. There is some food but no plates. They ask them to bring plates. The lady running the buffet refuses at first and then makes a face. Her rationale was — we were told to expect 30 guests. We had put out 30 plates. People have taken multiple plates. Are you serious? The same thing happens the next day at breakfast. there is just a general lack of silverware, plates, napkins and most importantly good attitude and good service. I would have expected a lot better from a place like this.
Another example: They give you two towels for a room where there is two kids under 5 and two adults. I call to get more towels. They show up an hour later after I have called 3 times.
2. The plumbing!

This place has horrible basics such as the plumbing. Imagine this. you are int he shower. Someone in your family decides to go to the bathroom and flushes the toilet. Prepare to be scalded! It was so bad that we finally had to make up a DO NOT FLUSH — SOMEONE IN SHOWER sign using the hotel stationery to avoid getting burned.
Many such incidences over our 3 day stay here.
Bottom-line: If you are thinking of planning an event here where people will be required to stay overnight or interact with their wait staff, please do your guests a favor and go elsewhere. Like us, they will be too nice to tell you.

There is not enough parking. My car was boxed in during a busy wedding service. They should have a parking attendant on staff to prevent drivers from boxing in other cars. I went to the Spa. My therapist was super great, but for the price of $ 115 plus tax for a 60 min massage I don’t like how there is no change room. For the price and location, I should be allowed to enter a change room first, slip into a bathrobe and slippers, sip on some lemon water, and then go in for my massage. Afterwards I should have access to a sauna room and shower room in the locker area. None of this was available. Reduce the price to $ 80 taxes includ. and the massage service is worthwhile. Staff were very polite!

For our holiday celebration at work, we were treated to the Glen Erin for a lunch buffet. This venue is as lovely as it looks from the picture but you have to make sure you’re facing north because there is a dominating senior living tower that overshadows it’s south side. I was quite surprised that it was built so close! It even shares the same parking entry.
The Glenerin Inn is not modern or flashy but has a lot of rustic charm. It was really nicely decorated for the Christmas time. They had a huge tree in the lobby and all the surrounding rooms and hallways were filled with red, golds, and pointsettas. It wasn’t country rustic but closer to Muskoka refined cottage feel.
The room was large and had huge vaulted ceilings. It had a fireplace and another tree in the corner. The buffet was set up in the joining hallway and the overall setting was really nice. Everything was plated on silver platters with lots of attention to detail.
The butternut squash ginger soup was very tasty without being heavy on the cream. The salad offering was fresh and all the dressings on them tasted home made instead of poured from a bottle. They had at least 4 types of salads (fresh baby leafy greens, a pasta salad, a bean salad, and a roasted vegetable) and were well seasoned with herbs. The entrée was complete with a carving station where you can choose from a turkey or roast beef. Both were nicely cooked and surprisingly very moist and tender. Most of the time I find buffets over cook both but not this time. They also offered vegetables, 2 pasta options (one with meat and the other purely vegetarian), roasted potatoes and a huge selection of breads. The desset was comprised of petit fours, lots of cheesecake, fruit cake (who likes this… honest!?!), red velvet cake, and fruits.
The service was great as we had our own wait staff inside the room and our own bar attendent. We were never waiting for coffee, water, or plates to be removed. The person who organized it loved the service from the event planner and managers. She also mentioned it was very reasonably priced.
I can see how this place would be great for intimate weddings and for other celebrations. I really liked the venue, the food, and the service!
