Zoom Rent A Car

Our experience with zoom rent a car was very great! Don’t let the other reviews stress you out or worry you too much!
Upon my family’s arrival to Toronto, I called their number and each time they answered and were very friendly with giving me directions to the airport tram stop where they were going to pick us up from. I called like three times (because I get a little paranoid) and each time someone willingly helped out and was super friendly.
We were picked up from our tram spot, we were taken to the center by a very nice woman. She was friendly and engaged us in conversation. We arrived to the center and were immediately helped out. We confirmed our reservation, told what not to do or where to go (407 toll road, have an unauthorized driver drive, get a ticket, etc), and they then placed a deposit hold on our credit card that was later refunded. The lady who helped us was very clear with letting us know what to avoid doing in order not to incur extra charges.
We got our car (a very nice 4-​door Mazda) and headed out after an initial inspection of the car. The car gave us absolutely no problem and the gas tank lasted us an entire week! (You do have to fill it up before returning).
Now I was nervous about our return because our flight was at 10am, the rental company opened at 8am, and I assumed they would take a while for the drop-​off process. I was wrong. They opened their doors before 8am for us, inspected our car, charged us what we were meant to pay (no extra charges!), and had a driver READY to go for us BEFORE it was even 8am! I did call a few days before to give them a heads up so maybe that’s why they were so accommodating. The driver took us straight to our terminal at the airport.

Terrible!!! FRAUD!!! The people working there are super rude! They will look for the smallest littlest things that could be wrong with the car to charge you extra. Do not rent a car from them because it may look like they’re cheap but you will end up paying more than you can ever imagine! They charged me an extra $ 500 on top of everything. I’m taking them to court.

I have been renting from Zoom for about a month and a half (not including one terrible week with trans canada/​EZ rent-​a-​car). When you first pick up the car they tell you EXACTLY what you get and what you will be charged if you exceed that.
I have coverage under my own insurance so I don’t have to pay for that, just had to email a copy of that part of my policy to verify.
They are very efficient with each renter and have great, up to date cars that are clean.
I only had one problem with the smoking fee because unbeknownst to me two people had smoked in the car (because it was cold) a night but they paid for it and I can’t REALLY complain.
Prices are great. Staff friendly. Can contact via email or phone.
Will be renting again next week!

At first, I was SUPER skeptical given that it’s a company I’ve never heard of so it’s not a big company. I just thought: it can’t possibly be THAT bad for every single customer, can it? In the end, if you follow the rules, you’ll have nothing to worry about.
Here are some pointers:
1) Call your existing auto insurance company and confirm with them that they would cover you if you rent a car in Toronto. Assuming you’re covered, print out a copy of your insurance paper. You’ll need this when you pick up the car. If you’re not covered, you’ll have to pay extra $ per day for insurance through Zoom.
2) When you arrive at YYZ, ask how to get to Viscount Station (There’s a train that you take that’s 2 stations away from YYZ). It’s not that hard, but it’ll add time to your day as you need to wait for them to come pick you up.
3) There will be a phone in Viscount Station with a button to call Zoom (if you have to, call in advance to confirm open hours). There will be a free shuttle to pick you up to go to Zoom
4) When you inspect the car, hopefully it’s just washed (free of dirt). Inspect and report all the existing scratches, bumps, mis-​alignments, scratches, scuffs, stains in the car. Use your phone’s flashlight to help you look for them
5) Don’t take Highway 407 cause it’s expensive! If you do, well, you’re going to rack up costs VERY quickly
6) Don’t go over the 3000 KM total limit. If you do, it’ll cost more
7) Don’t damage the car and return it the same way you received it
8) Drive it like it was your own car!
9) The night before returning it, fill up the gas tank
10) When you return it, don’t be late in returning the car because booking it for extra time or days costs more (again, check open hours)
11) There will be a free shuttle to bring you from Zoom to YYZ
12) Be thankful you’re saving lots of money and that Zoom is in business to provide you excellent product and service at an excellent price
I rented a car from Zoom for 2 weeks in Toronto — I’m glad I took the risk as it’s definitely the best price (Unless my review is outdated and someone else is better and cheaper.).
I’m definitely a return customer if I ever need to rent a car again in Toronto.

A total scam stay far way. Let me explain how the scam works.
I rented the car and was told I would have to pay for any tolls. This is fine as I live in New Jersey we have tolls on so many roads therefore I know how stop and pay an attendant. However what Zoom Rental Co. will not tell you is one of the main toll roads in Toronto is the 407 and this is the ONLY ALL ELECTRONIC toll processing company. Therefore they have no toll booths, no collecting person. The only way to pay is with a transponder. However, Zoom Rentals will not put in any transponders into the cars. So if you go on the 407 for any reason you will get a charge from Zoom Rentals. This is not just for the toll but Zoom Rentals places an additional $ 30.00. I talked with my co-​workers and they said most rental companies place the transponder on the rental cars and so when you return the car they look up your tolls and simply pay for what you used. This is why Zoom rentals is a scam. They are setting you up to be charged. They give a great deal on the car and then charge you $ 45.00 for every time you drive on the 407 highway.

FRAUDS! Do not rent from this «company»!
Everything seemed fine until I returned the car. They forced me to pay an additional $ 260 (which more than doubled the rental cost) for insurance, even though I could prove that I had my own insurance.
THE ONLINE ESTIMATED PRICES ARE WRONG! BE PREPARED TO ADD $ 26 PER DAY FOR INSURANCE even if you already have it!
I will be disputing the charge on my credit card, and I will never rent from them again. Horrible!

I was nervous about renting here after reading the other reviews but luckily all turned out OK! They’re definitely rough around the edges, but it was worth it for the ridiculously low price.
Pick up from the Pearson parking lot was pretty quick — about 10 minutes — in an unmarked van.
My biggest complaint was how long it took to check out the car. Lots of confusing paperwork. The car itself was pretty good (~30K km).
After seeing other reviewers complain about damage fees, I did a close walk-​around with the person, and made them check me in when I got returned the car. No extra charges — whew!
Tip: if you’re going into the US, there’s an extra fee ($ 10/​day) and your mileage is capped (200 km/​day, $ 0.20/km thereafter). Negotiate an extra kilometres package at a lower rate if you know about how far you’ll be driving.
Note that they’ll charge extra for liability insurance (~$ 9/​day) if you don’t have proof of your own.
All in all, this place seems just fine if you’re willing to put up with a little extra hassle and «good enough» service to save some money (like I always am!).

We had many of the same difficulties described by other travelers – monorail to the pick up area, long wait and then pick up by an unmarked vehicle. If the driver had been male and I were traveling along I would not have gotten into the van. But the driver was a lovely woman and I was with my husband so it was no problem. When we got to the desk it was quite a long wait as one of the two clerks was in a heated exchange with an client who was returning her car. There was a very small mark on the car and the client claimed she did not do it. The clerk said she did. The were at an impasse and the only way the woman could leave was if she signed an agreement that would make her responsible for up to $ 900. for the repair. The argument was unresolved when we left with our car. Our experience at the desk was not totally smooth. I had intended to drive the car as well and expected to pay an additional amount but the clerk claimed that I needed to buy their insurance in order to do that – eventhough I had more than adequate insurance already. The cost for this was $ 13.99/day. So I declined the extra driver option. When we got to our destination we discovered that one of our relatives had had to pay $ 900. last year when she returned her car with an almost imperceptible dent. Now we were alarmed and went online and discovered that this was not at all uncommon. We were totally paranoid the whole time we had the car! We checked it everytime we got out and got in. It did not make for relaxing driving. We were also concerned that we might also find ourselves in a never-​ending argument when we brought the car back so we allowed 4 hours for the return. Thankfully this was unnecessary. The desk staff were fair if sullen and the outside staff were very nice. But they still have a charge on our credit card (not processed but signed) for $ 500. that they will rip up in 6 weeks if we have incurred no fines or tolls. This is unusual! BUT they are still the cheapest cars around so if you can tolerate the stress of the possible «ding» then it’s a great deal.

Bad customer service. Better to rent from bigger companies.

One of the worst costumer service representatives. Very rude and unprofessional to deal With. The customers trust the sales reps to inform them about any unknown service charges that you might incur before signing the agreement. This is used against the customer for levied charges later on.
All other car rentals I’ve dealt with so far have always billed me the details and receipts of toll charges in Toronto which I’ve paid in full online past the rental rates.
I see a service charge of $ 30 in addition to my toll charges of $ 13 on my credit card two months later receiving explanation on communication following a week after with their service charge of $ 30 which doesn’t make any sense.
On calling them, they pour down the blame on me for not reading the agreement on signing it.
Even the cars have dents in them which later I was blamed for during drop off.
Very unprofessional!

Can you say terrible customer service? We arrived at the airport and then called them. Even though they said 10 minutes we waited 30 minutes for the shuttle. We had a fellow get on with us and even though we were on the bus first when we arrived he jumped out and ran to the checkout to get his car. Now that would be rude but not terrible but these guys take 20 minutes to get a car for someone. Finally our paperwork was done and the fellow takes us outside to look at the car. Its dark and had been raining the guy was totally rude, obnoxious and disinterested. If you want to get your car quickly, get out this is not a place for you. The cars are old. Ours had 60K miles and the tires were bald. Imagine driving in the rain with bald tires. Do not rent from this place.

L’agence est très difficile d’accès, il faut prendre un bus depuis l’aéroport qui vous déposera à un autre local où il faudra attendre qu’un employé de l’agence vienne vous chercher. De là il y a encore 10 en voiture.
Les prix sont certes attractifs mais la prochaine fois je réserverais ma voiture directement à l’aéroport pour gagner du temps.
/​/​The agency is very difficult to get to, you have to take a bus from the airport then wait at an other location for someone from the agency to pick you up. From there you have another 10 minutes ride.
Prices are cheap for sure but in the end you’d better book you car at the airport in order to save a lot of time.

We arrived at Pearson International Airport and called Zoom-​Rent-​a-​Car to come and pick us up. After 20 minutes of waiting outside Terminal 3, we called them again to see if they were on their way. They finally arrived 2 HOURS LATER and didn’t even have the courtesy to apologize for the delay.
We rented a minivan. The Air Conditioning vents in the rear of the vehicle was broken. There was no tint in the windows. The left rear tire was leaking so we had to constantly go to the gas station and put air in the tire. We called the company to let them know of the problem but the store staff did nothing — just told us to keep going to the gas station.
Upon return, we waited another 2 hours to get the inspection done and taken to the airport. Good thing we had a lot of time on our hands or we would have missed our flight.
With the exception of the shuttle driver, the desk staff were rude and had no manners whatsoever. I’d highly recommend everyone to avoid this rental company at all costs.
If they continue to behave this way with their customers, I’m sure they will go out of business.

the young lady who was there, the other two were VERY BUSY… and she was very gung ho. she was so gung ho, she didn’t listen very well.
she must have been seeing dollar signs… lol. not in a bad way… just overly zealous. they had two cars… and she kept going back and forth, checking and checking… but she didn’t really get all the information she needed to know. to give us a proper quote.
in the end, they didn’t have the car i wanted or needed… they had two. an suv and a midsize car… it was basically right in the middle.
not their fault, it was ours for not being ready or making a reservation.

I rented a car from Zoom through a UK web company. I arrived at Toronto Pearson airport, called them, they came over, picked me up, and drove me to their office. Picking up the car was quick, it was clean, they are next to a gas station which made filling up the car easy on return. After returning the car they dropped me back. It may not be the easiest for people that don’t have international roaming on their mobile as they’ll need to find a courtesy phone. All over they were polite, friendly, cheap and I’ll use them again.
