Residence Inn by Marriott Montreal Westmount

We stayed at the Marriott Feb 12to 14^th. The lobby is beautiful the staff excellent and the breakfast is decent. Rooms reasonably well appointed but a major problem with this hotel is the draftiness of the rooms due to leaky windows that are frankly past their prime about 15 years ago. Granted this was a very cold weekend but I have stayed at this Marriott over several years (because of the location) and this is a perennial problem in most seasons except summer. The net effect is NOT a restful sleep. it was so cold this weekend that even with the skimpy extra duvet they provided (which might have been suitable in a 1959s convent) I felt like I was in a battle between the blast from the heater and draft from the windows all night. Ended up putting my Canada Goose down jacket over my covers to stay warm. And I grew up in Montréal so its not like I am not used to winter! Marriott please get your act together, do your patrons and the environment a solid and upgrade your windows! You are a big company I am sure you can find the funds.

The parking garage is terrible. Many SUVs won’t fit, so careful there. Every single spot has concrete pillars on both sides. Good luck not scratching your car.
One elevator was broken during my visit. But I wouldn’t take them anyways. Looked more like slightly-​advanced dumb-​waiter. Stairwells aren’t any nicer.
The entire hotel seemed to be noisy at all hours of day and night.
The bed was like stone, and the pillows like paper.

Three years since my original stay and review, I just spent three more nights here. It’s still a great place to stay. It’s only a two block walk from the Metro and four quick stops to Place Des Arts, where the jazz festival is going on. The hotel breakfast is a hot one, not just continental. If you don’t want a crowd, get up early and go… otherwise, it can be very busy. Although not the most lavish hotel by any stretch, it’s clean and comfy. The parking is convenient below the building, which is an additional cost… but reasonable, especially in American dollars. The only challenge with the hotel is the elevators (2) can sometimes take a while. But, heck, if you’re on vacation… just relax… what’s the rush? :-) Oh, I can’t forget to mention the staff… which is great and friendly. Adeline the front desk manager was helpful, as was Teal. The person I dealt with the most was awesome… Lydia!
This will continue to be my go to hotel in Montréal, especially during Jazz Fest.

Traveling with kids for a very long weekend trip to Montréal, some pros and cons:
— the little suites were perfect, insofar as we crammed our party into one room, we were able to all sleep pretty comfortably using the sofa bed in the living room as the extra. The double beds were just a bit too small for adults but oddly enough the sofa bed in the main room was full queen size, albeit with a thin mattress. There are balconies, although with an odd step up, and no furniture on them or furniture in the suite which can be schlepped out to the balcony. The kitchenettes are adequate and include a mini-​dishwasher.
— excellent self-​serve although fairly standard-​style breakfast bar wiith hovering service (we felt obliged to tip but you ought not), some items you can sneak to go without any disapproval (the fruit and yogurts were a godsend).
— friendly and attentive staff.
— the pool is small and almost too artful (with sharper edges for style that are not kid-​friendly) but has a stunning view of the city from the top level penthouse. (Although the people who went back to their rooms in their suits, dripping on the elevators, were not appreciated, I can’t blame them as the changing space near the pool area is quite limited and not advertised as such). The small fitness room has five or six pieces of equipment but also has a stunning view, fwiw.
— parking available on-​site with unlimited in and out (although see also: cons).
— location, location, location! This is a fairly quiet little residential side area of Westmount, but only a block and a half from the Atwater metro stop, so it’s very easy to get around from here. There’s also a gajillion dining options within a few blocks’ walk, including several small grocery stores.
Cons:
— unusable TV system, that requires one go back to a main menu for every change of the channel (no surfing) and which does not have an adequate program guide and only a few channels for kids. If you need to get the kids out of your hair for sanity when sharing a small suite and need to rely on an electronic baby sitter, it just doesn’t work. They can easily upgrade this and they should.
— housekeeping was a bit indifferent. It wasn’t dirty, but they didn’t replace towels one day when we put them in the «please replace» pile, got two bottles of lotion and no shampoo another day, and they didn’t get the rugs vacuumed. We also didn’t have enough bed covers and had to request them (although the front desk was right on the case).
— parking garage, as noted in other reviews, is very old school and difficult to get in and out of. We just left the vehicle there, though.
— price, in season, was a little on the high side (with taxes and parking and everything, close to C$ 300 a night), but to be sure we inadvertently found ourselves in the middle of multiple events, including the Women’s World Cup, so it’s to be expected. It was reasonable given the breakfast and convenience, as we saved some $ on food and transportation.
— because it’s an old converted high rise, it was missing amenities like room service, a restaurant, a large lounge area (the breakfast area was built instead) and a true concierge. There is a mini-​store for late night munchies right next to the desk, in the modern fashion, and you can charge the items to your room.
— the elevators are a disaster; two small elevators which seem to double as service elevators made for very slow and uncomfortable going up and down. This was particularly awkward with kids.
Bottom line: a decent option for traveling with kids, if you can afford it, and if the business traveler can stand the kids hanging around, a good business suite option for a longer stay.

Nice facility, however, do not stay here if time is important to you or if you have any aversion to walking stairs! 19 floors-​2 very slow elevators.

Stayed in the one bedroom suite. Compact but clean and well organized layout. Extra plus for the great-​looking swimming pool and saunas (though separated for men and women) on the top (penthouse) floor. Warning on parking as ceiling height is 5’6″ so big cars might not fit.

This is a very old hotel. It was a little noisy and just dated. I had the get my husband to turn the shower on each time as I didn’t have enough strength. The temperature also fluctuated with the sink and toilet. The room décor was also plain, dated and just boring. Awesome breakfast and the pool was warm just a little cloudy. Our two girls did enjoy their stay. It is a good location as there is a mall, grocery store, theater and restaurants within walking distance. Staff were friendly.

The staff love their job! The lady in the buffet is very attending to the guests and offers coffee with a big smile. The breakfast items are fresh and delicious. The hotel room has a kitchen equipped with dishwasher, microwave and fridge. The only concern I have is the towels. The first set of towel I got had a stain that was not completely removed from the previous wash. The wifi is also fast enough for Netflix watching. If you drive an SUV you can’t park in their garage, since their parking ceiling is too low!!! So be aware.

It’s so cold outside and the heat in the rooms don’t go higher than 75 degrees! Also, the water pressure is horrible. I’ll never stay here again. I’m freezing and miserable.

Parfait comme hôtel. Prix très abordable, déjeuner inclus, a côté du métro Atwater. Chambre propre et grande. C’est ma place à Montréal.

I’ve stayed at this hotel three times and this was by far my worst experience. First, our room had not heat and it was freezing. They sent up a repair person to try and fix it — after some time he threw up his hands and gave up. We were then moved to another room — not a huge deal. Second, one of the two old/​slow elevators broke on Saturday night. Sunday was a disaster trying to get up or down. We walked 9 flights with our bags. Again not a huge deal, but we are in good shape. Third, breakfast was sparse at 9. As stated above, not a big deal.
But, looking at the experience as a whole it was a kind of a big deal. I do not plan to return.

I am a frequent marriott customer so I do have a certain level of expecation.

Seems to be well suited to hen/​stag parties so loud and drunk people at the weekends!

I assumed this place was going to be superb considering the quality of the reviews but honestly I was wrong. The service was pretty good and the buffet style breakfast was decent. But the building is old and run down on (on the outside) and right next to a big ugly apartment building, I honestly feel as if the balcony was a waste of money to build. The elevator was horrible, It took 15ish minutes to get to the eleventh floor and its almost always completely full.
The rooms were okay and it had a full sized kitchen but even though I’m and elite member I was unable to get an upgrade. The basement parking is made for people with smart cars, my antenna bent back quite far and almost snapped due to the height of the parking. I went down to the lobby to get a soda but it was quite overpriced. (around 3 dollars) I generally liked the location but it was a little gritty.

A wonderful place to stay in Montréal. It is clean, close to metro, and restaurants. Breakfast buffet has a variety of choice. Staff is very friendly. The parking spot in the garage is tight. If your car is larger than a regular size sedan, you might want to consider parking somewhere else. Beds are not very comfortable, but bearable for a night or two.

Check-​in couldn’t have been simpler buy parking was a pain. Apparently the hotel lot (underground) is tiny and my grand caravan had to be parked up the hill, 4 blocks away in a public lot for $ 20/​day… I would have appreciated clear instructions from the front desk… I mean they gave me a map to the parking lot but no indication that it was public, outdoor and needed to be paid for…
Our 2-​bedroom suite was spacious and clean although somewhat dated. The living room and kitchen were great and the balcony looked nice (the –30 windchill make the balcony a spectator sport only). The bedrooms were nice and big as well.
The beds and pillows are 2 – 3 stars at best. The beds were small queens and the mattresses were very firm (the kind a hotel guys to avoid having to replace them regularly). The pillows were small and too squishy (bed too firm, pillows too soft… I was having a goldilocks moment…).
Overall this hotel does provide a great location at a great price and the amenities and decent.

Great location on a quite street but close to shops and the metro. I would highly recommended this hotel, especially if you have some Category 1 – 4 certificates to use. Getting an upgrade was easy with elite status and the service was great. The hotel is old, but does not look dated. Would definitely go back again! We just had a small issue being charged for something erroneously, but a quick e-​mail took care of it all.

I’ve stayed at my fair share of Marriott locations (Platinum status, anyone?), and this has to be one of the best ones! We were greeted with a «Bonjour! Hello!» the moment we walked in the front door, and that set the pace for the duration of our stay. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, and as visitors, they made us feel at home. The room was large and spacious (Queen bedroom, living room, balcony, kitchen, bathroom), and it was in impeccable shape. Parking was easy on the property, as well, and it’s located right in the basement.
The location of the hotel was prime, I might add. It was close to the metro, which made our travel around Montréal exponentially easier, and walking distance from the hotel were a ton of restaurants and bars. I can’t really comment on the price per night because I used points that I accumulated during my travels, but no matter what the cost, this place has amazing value; honestly, it’s the value you want and is most important.

It’s a shame this hotel doesn’t have more reviews etc. Probably because it is a hidden gem of sorts. This hotel is located just a few blocks away from the very lively Rue St. Catharine so it’s ideal in that it’s nice and peaceful in the area around the hotel but one can walk to RSC in less than 5 minutes.
The rooms were atleast twice the size of a hotel you might encounter in a New York city or San Francisco, and at half the price. My room was a suite style room, although I didn’t avail of the amenities in the room it was nice to know that these were available.
The service was of particular note at this hotel. One got the feeling that the front desk staff are very talented, knowledgeable and skilled in interacting with guests. They were amazingly polite and personal. I had one of the members pull out a map and draw a walking route through downtown Montréal which I did take. It was good to see the staff take that much pride in presenting information about this great city.
Affordably priced, great location, peaceful, quiet with a great staff, would definitely recommend this hotel

Close to the metro in a quieter area of Montréal. Rooms were good. Elevators were quite slow. Only two small elevators to accommodate all guests equaled a longer wait to reach your room.

We stayed here ⁰⁸⁄₃₀ to ⁰⁹⁄₀₄ for five nights over the labor day weekend. Our flight arrived late on ⁰⁸⁄₂₉ in Burlington, VT, so we got our rental and drove up to Montréal and found things to occupy our time until the morning. We pulled into the Hotel at 9 am on the longshot that we could check in early. The hotel clerk checked and said she had a room and was even able to upgrade us to a suite vs the studio we had booked.(we were staying on Marriott Rewards points and that is all they would let us book online) Onsite parking is available at ~ $ 23 USD/​night
Our room was on the 6^th floor, and while we didn’t get a suite with a king size bed, we did get suite with two double beds which worked out just fine. It allowed us to load up our suitcases on the second bed and sleep in the other. Hotel appears to be recently and tastefully renovated. Kitchen with electric cooktop, dishwasher, convection microwave and fridge/​freezer. Room had an odd smell which I’m not sure was because of them allowing pets, or what but it was a bit odd.
Breakfast is included with all rooms and we found it to be well appointed and on par (if not better) than the other Residence Inn’s we have stayed at lately. Amenities included rooftop pool (which was very nice looking), gym with 3 – 4 treadmills and weights, and saunas in the men’s and women’s restrooms.
Location is good and just a couple blocks from the Atwater metro station. Area isn’t quite as nice as other properties further North West Rue Sainte Catherine, but we never felt threatened (although I don’t think if I was a woman walking alone I’d feel to safe). You could tell the apartments in the area were of a lower income level, but I wouldn’t classify the area as the hood. Area has plenty of places to eat and pick up groceries within walking distance.
Overall we had a pleasant stay. Breakfast buffet is always a plus as the food is good and provides motivation each day to get up and start the day. Staff was friendly and the hotel was in very nice condition (should be given the remodel) I’d say the only downside is that there are only two lifts to service all 20 floors — so waiting for the lift could prove tiresome at times. Otherwise a very nice property in a convenient location.

I had long-​term stays at this hotel off and on for about two years. I was normally checked in for several weeks at a time, and it’s the only hotel I’ll stay at in Montréal.
It’s not the best hotel in Montréal (I think the Sofitel gets that award, but whether you’re there for a couple of nights or months it’s the best bang for the buck.
The worst thing about staying at most downtown hotel there is the inability to prepare/​reheat/​store food in your hotel. You become dependent on eating out or ordering from the hotel before the restaurant closes. If you’re lucky you may have a refrigerator to store items, but certainly no facility to prepare food. I’m not a fan of that at all. This hotels kitchen alone makes this a four star review, and then add the fact that they’ll go shopping for you — what more could you want! I would leave a list of the items I needed from the store, and when I made it back to the hotel I had a fully stocked refrigerator!
The location is perfect. Right next to the Alexis-​Nihon station where you can go shopping from clothes to the IGA for groceries. There you also have a metro that’ll get you wherever you need to go fast. There’s so much within walking distance to that hotel. I only used cabs for trips to the airport, and used my feet and monthly metro pass for everything else.
The room itself was perfect for me. A living room, bedroom, and kitchen. I didn’t need much more.
I’ve not ever been at a hotel that I would say is the best ever, but they earn five stars because you can be totally self-​sufficient there while still being taken care of by the hotel.
