Log Farm

Craving a sugar bush breakfast experience, my sister bff and I decided to hit up the Log Farm since it’s really close, open on Sundays and you don’t need reservations.
If you’re from Ottawa (and Canadian at all really!) you know heading to the sugar bush is a sign that the winter is fading and spring may not be here, but it’s on the way. Today was SO not that kind of day. Sunny yes. Warm? No. Why do I mention the weather? When we were waiting in line for to pay admission in the log cabin we were FREEZING. Also, when we were eating our breakfast we couldn’t even take off our jackets, and the place was packed, so I can’t imagine how cold it is when it’s empty.
We made the treck around 11:30 a.m. and the place was still busy, though I’m sure not as packed as earlier in the day. The place has horrible signage, and we ran into several families and couples that were in line for breakfast (which is served in a log cabin away from the main building where you pay) that had no idea they had to pay somewhere else first. There’s not even a sign on the main building saying «admission payment» or anything. Luckily when we were wandering aimlessly from the parking lot a nice woman told us we had to pay at the first cabin. We waited in the freezing line for about 20 minutes or so. There were two cashiers and the process was SUPER slow since their debit/​credit machines were slow and didn’t always process payments properly. Advice? Bring cash — it makes things easier and faster for everyone.
Admission was $ 32 for the three of us (and three yummy mini maple sugar cones!). They took a dollar off since they were out of eggs which I thought was a nice touch. They also have an online coupon for a dollar of each breakfast. They also run a whole sugar bush with stations which we weren’t up to because it was so cold, but I think that’s around five dollars per person.
We were told to expect an hour wait for breakfast, but it was more like 15 – 20 minutes which was nice. However, they ran out of pancakes so it took a little while to get those. The staff were all teens and super friendly. The breakfast consisted of pancakes, sausages and amazing potatoes along with juice, coffee and a ton of maple syrup. You can go back and eat as much as you want, so it’s a pretty good deal.
While the food was decent, the organization and layout of the place is awful. As mentioned, the signage was horrible and no one seemed to know where they were going or how things worked. The benches in the log cabin are packed so close together people have to stand up to let you through. There is, however, a ton of of outdoor seating which might be nice on a warmer day.
I could see this place being decent for kids (there were about 2.5 million of them there today), but be prepared for tight quarters and long waits.
