Screamers House of Horrors

I have been to many «haunted» houses and usually end up with a good laugh. I can honestly say there was no laughing involved here. First of all, I came in with my boyfriend who was convinced that he’d be bored out of his mind, as he usually is, with this sort of thing. When we first walked in I saw a «chicken list» where it showed a count of over 86,000 people who could not finish the maze. At first I did not believe that the number was accurate, but after I finished I definitely understood why. The maze is pitch black with constant touching, explosions, noises, etc. In order to find your way around, you need to follow these tiny red lights. At one point the red lights run out and… Well you should find out for yourself ;)
Anyhow it was well worth the money and I highly recommend it over any other haunted house in that area!

Not Bad. Your typical follow the red light in the dark style haunted house. They say it should take 12 minutes to make it through, more like 5, and that includes the couple minutes that they locked us in a little room with no doors. They have live actors with machetes chasing you around, at one point a truck almost runs you over. Pretty well put together. Would probably be pretty scary for kids. Overall not bad. I don’t know if I would pay $ 15 a person to do it again

As a self-​proclaimed veteran of haunted houses all over the place (Niagara in particular), none have come close to giving me the pants-​splattering terror and delight that I got from Screamers.
Time before last when I was there, they had 2 seperate walk-​throughs (one regular, and one that involved climbing and crawling), but I didn’t notice the physical one last time I was there… do they still offer it? No matter, I’m gonna review both just in case.
The main option is scary enough. From feeling brushing against your pant-​leg while hearing snakes hissing, to almost being hit by a speeding ‘car’, to having the lights suddenly come on to reveal live-​actor Jason Voorhees standing before you with a machete… there isn’t a horror itch that this place doesn’t scratch. In fact, it scratches you until your now-​severed arm falls to the floor.
I flew solo in the physical maze. It seemed to have less actors inside, but the intense feeling of claustrophobia was all over it. Some spots you have to squeeze through or hop over. And there’s something to be said for crawling through the plastic ‘exit’ tube, only to have hands grab your feet and start pulling you back inside the maze. Yerrgh! Unhand me, foul beast!
For me, the best moment was in the regular maze, walking into a room with my 2 friends (1 male, 1 crying female), and not being able to locate the red light that leads the way. After a few minutes of fumbling around the walls trying to find an opening to the next room, we decided to try going back the way we came, and couldn’t find the way we came in from either. After running our hands all around the room, we were trapped. All of a sudden, a deafening alarm goes off, and a flashing red light revealed that we were sealed in the room, which was fashioned with a giant casket, and a corpse hanging from the ceiling. Did the wall open back up so we could leave? I can’t say. For all you know, I’m writing this review from that room right now. Muahahaha! Sweet dreams, kiddies!

Despite my multiple, ridiculous phobias (thunderstorms, flies, opening gifts, horses) I *love* being scared. Like, actually scared. The kind of scared where you think you might either promptly drop a load in your undercrackers or start involuntarily letting out nervous giggles because you think you might die.
I love scary movies and I love haunted houses and the whole strip of horror houses in Niagara Falls, but Screamers is truly the best of the lot!
They have a Chicken List that currently numbers 73,000+ people. That’s the number of people who’ve paid their $ 15 admission fee and not made it through the perilous maze of darkness and despair without running back out into the lobby squealing like boiled lobsters.
The name of a guy I once dated is on that list. At 6’2 and 200+ lbs he was all «Babe, I’ve got your back — we’re totally gonna hold hands once we’re in and you’ll SO be OK. Don’t even worry about it. I’m right here!»
Yet mere footsteps after pulling back the black curtain and entering the pitch black starting point of the haunted area, he spun on his heels and STORMED out, dramatically fumbling with the curtain and causing a huge commotion in the lobby. And I was alone.
Let me tell you my heart has never beat as quickly as it did during those ten agonizing minutes. At every turn, someone was either grabbing at my limbs, breathing heavily or snarling in my ear. And I could not see a goddamn THING (I swear as I get older my night vision gets worse — even after ten minutes in the dark I can’t see a foot in front of my own face). At one point I actually said «I know someone’s about to grab my leg — just please, please, please let me pass by without touching me. I’m going to have a heart attack here!!» I was simultaneously sweating, crying, twitching and shrieking. Actually, it was not unlike 1:04 here:
…and it was probably the best $ 15 I’ve ever spent on entertainment. Highly recommended!
