Steak and kidney pie to die for, great beer selection, old English pub ambiance. Perfect.

Great burger. The Angel Inn Lager made a good compliment to the burger. Son enjoyed his shepherds pie.

As far as ambiance goes this place doesn’t have the modern trendy feel of the modern day gastro pub, but rather the feel and coziness of the old neighbor hood watering hole/dive and is a bit of a warren as they have several dining sections divided up in on the main level. The food isn’t fancy and they aren’t as into presentation as some other places. But overall this place is super shabby and divey. Service is friendly and I enjoyed a super casual no fuss dinner here. Their French onion soup is decent — not too salty and pipping hot with enough melty goodness that stayed hot for a good while after it arrived at our table. Their daily special mussels with garlic bread. Good portion and decent flavor. But not too stand out. I ordered their baked chicken curry on half fries and half rice. Overall I loved the flavor of the curry and the half fries and rice hit the spot, however the only caveat I have regarding this dish was the fact that the chicken was overcooked to the point of being almost cardboard. The husband ordered the Meatloaf Wellington, overall it was really good and a hefty portion to the point that he couldn’t finish the dish. I thought the gravy was good, but wished for a little more of it on the mashed potatoes. Olde Angel Inn to me is one of the better options along the Niagara On the Lake Main street, even if the ambiance isn’t fancy — the food is worth it, if you’re looking for no frills and nothing too fancy.

We came here for lunch last week and it was pretty good. The burger I had was pretty yummy, but not as juicy as it could have been. The fries were the star of the show. They were handcut and glorious. A really excellent fry. The service wasn’t the friendliest, but perhaps they were just having an off day.

A lovely pub with good beer and even better food. As close to a true English pub as you’ll get this side of Cornwall — and, to be honest, even more authentic then many pubs in the UK left today! Couldn’t recommend more.

Amazing fish and chips, prob one of the best I’ve had in a long time! Only gave 3 stars because of the mediocre service and charging extra $ 3 to sub out fries and have a regular side salad instead, which brought the price of one piece of fish + a small side salad close to $ 20. Food itself is about 4.5 stars though, just to note!

Delicious little pub with very generous servings. The atmosphere is authentic English pub, since it is apparently the oldest pub in Canada. In my party we had the fish and chips(my husband said it was good, but not the best he’d had — he IS British, though, so that’s a pretty high bar to meet!), the mandarin salad(tasty and plentiful, even for the small), reuben(delicious and HUGE, with good fries) and the French Onion Soup(VERY cheesy, which I like. Saltier than the one I make at home). Overall, a solid choice!

The atmosphere is nice, but the cleanliness could be improved upon. The tables were sticky, which is a huge pet peeve of mine. I found the menu selection a bit limited, but adequate, and in line with pub house fare. The quality of the food is good and the prices seemed to be fair. The service was fine, not great, but fine.

This is the greatest pub in a 50 mile radius of Buffalo! We will come back here just for dinner in the future. I’m so glad we discovered it. We were spending the weekend at Niagara on the Lake and so we were able to have a few beers and hang out to listen to the live music for a late night dinner. Lots of young people, we discovered. Wondered where they were during the day but this place was bumping at 9pm! Shepard’s Pie is the best I’ve had –the broiled potatoes on top are delicious and I love throwing the peas and carrots they serve on the side right into the mix! Steak and Kidney pie was also delicious. The gravy on the beef was great to dip mashed potatoes in! Service was great, too. It was busy so we felt grateful that our server stopped by as often as he did. We had a great time and would come back here again and again now that we know about it!

We made a trip for their(award winning) fish and chips. Frankly, I had better in a hole in the wall restaurant in Niagara Falls. They weren’t bad, but not exceptional either. More than generous portion of chips, could have sunk a ship with all of those potatoes. The fish was light and delicious. The pub is very popular and was crowded, even for a late lunch after 2pm. Interesting menu, served efficiently. I felt the prices were too high for this type of fare.

Amazing! Came to Niagara on the Lake for the Ice Wine Festival, and this was our go-to spot to warm up. All in all, we probably spent about 12 hours at The Olde Angel Inn, and would have spent more if it weren’t for last call! A charming little pub with great food(the French Onion Soup was the perfect way to warm up), great pints(even the Irishman in our group commented on their Guinness pour), and quick, friendly service(our waiter in the evening was a gem!).

The Olde Angel Inn is the oldest pub in Canada and more authentic than an English pub in England, particularly for it being built by the British during the war of 1812 era. A British soldier’s ghost lives in the basement which makes this place that more exciting. What I particularly enjoyed about this place was their authentic food. Their bangers and mash and the meatloaf Wellington was great home style comfort food, great for a cold night.

Every time I am in NOTL I make a point of stopping in here at least once. The staff may not always be on their toes, but they are courteous and happy to appease. The food is like gourmet English pub fare. If you are a chocoholic like me, you’ll want to try their brownie which is served hot with a nice scoop of vanilla ice cream. This is a must try location.

Great Food. but it needs to be appreciated It was a busy Saturday noon time lunch for 8 of us. We got seated in good time. Venue was a historic building that was built back up after it was burned down in the war in 1800’s. It felt like a real english/irish pub. low ceilings, dark and very close quartered. The tables felt a bit sticky perhaps because they were not sealed but it made it feel like there was left over beer all over them. The furniture was very unique in that the bases were made from old sewing machine pedal bases. As far as food it was terrific. Three of us had sampler of three dishes and all three of us agreed it was good. Others had anything from Salmon, etc. which got lackluster reviews. However, nothing can account for the horrible service(as far as attention and serving time). It seemed there was only one person serving 60 people! You almost had to yell out to get someone’s attention or trip them to get them to stop so you can ask them for something like water or the bill. They had an incredible beer collection. Some were real overseas beers you just can’t get stateside with any degree of decency in taste. These beers were impeccable. Everyone who ordered a British import, or other exotic were more than pleased. So high fives for beer selection and quality, lo fives for some of the items on menu, fist bump for authentic pub feel(although could do without sticky tables and slick beer lined floors), and a BIG fail on service. They have a good sense of humor. In men’s room in the urinal there is a soccer net with a ball you can use for target practice. I guess that is to keep what you’re doing in urinal LOL Not a bad place for lunch, great place for exotic tap beer, and a feel that brings into an English pub. Prices were okay. I guess competitive with other similar locations in area(not cheap but not expensive either). Bön Appetite! Visited October 2015

The sort of pub that’s so authentically English you couldn’t find it in England. It’s not just the photos of the royal family on the wall, it’s the greasy fries(this is Canada, so they don’t call them«chips») and the insistence on serving peas and carrots with everything.

Super English pub — authentic food and beer. We had a couple of pints and the ploughmsns lunch. The staff are friendly, are bar tender was a hoot. The ploughman lunch is a bunch of veggies, cheese, bread, and a bit of Shepard’s pie as I recall. Great with a pint or two. Very, Very pubby. lots of locals. worth a visit.

Angel inn although it is Canada oldest pub the service is lacking. Danielle our server was rude and not very good at her job. If you don’t want to deal with customers maybe a change in careers is necessary Once in lifetime experience soured by our server. Food was ok and beer was good. So if you tolerate bad service and good food hit this place up. As for us one and done!

Atmosphere = awesome. Food = bland and nearly tasteless(main) or heavy and overwhelming(appy) We came in post-wine tour and craving a fresh, crisp bruschetta. The menu mentioned it had cheese on top, which was different but I assumed it would be lightly dusted. When it arrived, we had 3 huge french bread pieces slathered in melted cheese, and dripping with grease. One slice was my calorie intake for the day(although we all know they don’t count on vacation). It wasn’t what I was craving at all… in fact I’m still craving it. For the mains we went all in on the pub staple Bangers and Mash. The plate looked fantastic — 3 pork sausages, a mountain of mash and gravy and baked beans on the side. The sausages were just ok, nothing to write home to mom about. The gravy was the biggest let down, it was simply flavourless. Literally ‘hello taste? are you in there taste?” a-la Homer Simpson to his rice cake. And the beans were canned Heinz beans, which is cool at home on a Tuesday night when I’m too beat to make a non-hobo meal. Simply put, it was a whole lotta calories for no pay off. The pub atmosphere was great, loved the interior and old pub style which you don’t get much of in Canada. I’d recommend for your post-dinner drink — take in the pub, the ghost story and the live music and call it good.

Three stars for the pub Four stars for the hotel room Gord and I had an early supper at the pub on Saturday. We got there just before the supper rush and it got busy. They had an interesting selection of craft beer. I ordered an Angel Inn lager(it’s brewed by Amsterdam Brewing in Toronto). Gord ordered fish and chips and said it was good. I ordered a turkey club sandwich(minus the lettuce) and it was good too. The bun was soft, which I like. The fries were delicious. We went back about midnight and Ear Candy was playing to a packed crowd. They played cover tunes and were good. We spent Saturday night at the Olde Angel Inn. We stayed in the Colonel’s Suite. When we checked in, we were warned that the room wasn’t modern … that’s exactly why we’d decided to stay there! There are a couple air conditioners that kept the rooms cool. There is no parking on site but there are lots and street parking. We ended up parking about two blocks away on the street(and it was free). It’s downtown so a short block from the main drag where there are restaurants, shopping, theatre, etc. There is a pub on the main floor and that’s where we had supper yesterday. There’s also live music(the band last night was Ear Candy and they were really good). It was about $ 190(including taxes) for the night … it’s less during the off-season. We’d stay there again the next time we go to Niagara-on-the-Lake.
