Garlic Corner

I went by here on Saturday 7÷6÷2013 and it’s closed.

At 3am and you need some food, Garlic Corner is a-​ok as Smokes Poutinerie down the street and the other fry place in the market are garbage compared to this drunken food oasis!
The only problem is that I don’t like this place to much any other time for food as it can be hit or miss.
Come by for some shisha or cheap booze throughout the day though!

It was OK. The Poutine was actually the best part about this place (kinda sad for a Shwarma place). Drinks are friggin cheap… although my friend was a little ignorant with the giant sign and got ripped off with the price. Besides that it was ok… i don’t know how middle eastern food is in the rest of Ottawa… but compared to what I’ve had it was average and mediocre. The chicken WAS NOT cut fresh off the roast… which i think was the biggest disappointment since it was dry. Also the piece of chicken bone was a little annoying (though lately with all the food processing it’s almost a blessing to see a bone!). All in all, the staff was back alright… not welcoming, but not smug. They offer free shisha which is nice, but they should really hold the same pricing standards for everyone ;-). I would go back here if I were in the area, but would not travel across the city to visit.

Just another mediocre /​average Shawarma place in a city filled with them. And like every other Shawarma place in this city the people who work there seem to have an attitude problem and don’t really grasp the whole concept of customer service. You can find better.

I had always just thought that Garlic Corner was a small Shawarma place and nothing more, but when I went in to grab a sandwich, I learned that it was much better than I had anticipated!
The shawarma was delicious, but even better was the fact that drinks are really cheap! Beer is two for $ 5 and shots are two for $ 6! Sundays and Mondays there is free shisha!
Their breakfast is the cheapest in town, if you want to go out to eat the day after a party.
I picked the beef, but the man who attended me insisted I try the chicken too and brought me a little piece with some garlic sauce. The service was excellent and he made sure to tell me all the specials that were available. I will definitely go back, next time to stay for a while.

After hitting the bar pretty hard, this place is really convenient for late night munchies. It’s really close to the Market, so it’s walking distance, even when it’s cold. A group of friends and I came here to eat at about 2am on a Wednesday night, and the place was really packed. It’s also a Hookah/​Shisha bar, so there were a few people there smoking some.
Service was fast and friendly and the cost is cheap and affordable. I ordered a falafel sandwich with garlic potatoes and garlic sauce. The garlic sauce was poured on top of the potatoes and was more runny than the usual creamier sauces found in shawarma places around Ottawa. The falafel wasn’t greasy, but it wasn’t too flavourful either. For a lighter meal, and one that’s open in the middle of the night, Garlic Corner might be a good choice.

At the CORNER (get it?) of York and Dalhousie, this place gets crazy on the weekend nights. The line snakes around and around but the service is surprisingly quick for the sheer volume of people. After hitting the bars, people are looking for something to soak up some of the alcohol in their stomach and their shwarma does the trick.
The shwarma itself? I’ve had better. The chicken could be a bit warmer and they could fill it up some more. But it still hits the spot for me and many, many people that come late night. They also have a nice grilling system that keeps the sandwiched in line with the people: organized!
The staff are very friendly and keep up with crowds so well, they even make friends along the way. Go over there on a Monday or Tuesday and you’ll get free hookah on their patio!
