By the way… the place is called«SILVERSPOONEXPRESS», I guess it was previously called Rideau Spring Roll King. Here is a link to the place: and if you want to simply order. 613688‑8889(same address) Though I didn’t vote for«as good as it gets» … likely this is as good as it gets with respect to take out/delivery chinese foods. They have a great selection of food dishes and they are very quick. I have now ordered there at least half a dozen times and they deliver right to my door of my condo(often bypassing security… kewl??) and I have gone there to pick up… always hot and so super yummy and as expected. Oh, and the prices are way beyong reasonable. This is definitely may first choice when wanting take out… and there are many in my hood I could order from. The staff there are also very friendly and helpful — in case you are unsure of what to order. That is about it… give it a try and if you like(or don’t like) make mention of it here. Cheers! :-)

Spring Roll King closed about a year ago. There’s now Silver Spoon Express in its place. Nearly the same menu but a different chef… at least, my usual vermicelli noodles tasted different.

I used to order from here distressingly frequently when I lived near Strathcona Park and had few options nearby. The fact that I kept ordering after moving to Centretown suggests that it wasn’t just a matter of convenience. The food is not the most authentic, which should not be a surprise given the mixed selection of Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese cuisines. I admit to quite enjoying being able to have lo mein and penang curry in the same order. I have never had the food not arrive hot and the vegetables are always in good shape, nothing overcooked or limp. Their tofu manages to be greasy-crispy yet also light in a way I haven’t been able to replicate at home, which is really what I look for when I pay the restaurant mark-up. A friend and I had a thing where we would order in the same three dishes after long winter bike rides on the canal. For $ 30 we would have enough food for about four meals for two hungry gluttons, so as a miser, I can’t complain about the value. I also appreciate that when the staff member taking our order noticed that every dish we chose was vegetarian, he asked if we wanted to swap the free chicken fried rice they offer for plain steamed rice. You can also get take-away from the restaurant itself, located in a charming converted house on the northern tip of Rideau street. There is a small counter to eat at in house, but seating is limited to that.

For something named«Spring Roll King», they don’t really offer many spring rolls. They have open– and close-ended egg rolls, shrimp spring rolls, and vegetable spring rolls. They also have a few Vietnamese, charbroiled, rice vermicelli spring rolls, which have fillings like beef, chicken, pork, and shrimp. Other than that, their menu consists mostly of Chinese(Cantonese and Szechuan), Vietnamese, and Thai dishes. It’s nice that they offer a variety of Asian cuisine, but they don’t exactly live up to their«Spring Roll King» name. I was hoping that I would be able to try a whole bunch of new and exciting spring rolls, but I was really disapppointed, and, unfortunately, it kind of put me off of ordering from this restaurant.
