This place is adorable! I like the setup and the décor – purple and girly. I like that there’s a good amount of seating. I really liked the cashier – had a pretty rockin’ conversation. I liked the assortment of cupcake flavours – chocolate chipolte, has my name all over it. The cupcakes we tried were good. The frosting was piled high – almost as much frosting as cake actually. So if you prefer your cake: frosting ratio a bit smaller, you might end up scooping some off the top, otherwise mowing down on the sugary goodness is just all right with me. I did find the cake itself a bit dry and slightly crumbly, though still tasty. However, it was the end of the day(according to Glebe hours anyway), so I shall try this place again earlier in the day to see if the cake can knock my socks off.

The Flour Shoppe is located a mere 800 meters from another cupcake shop. Unlike Thimblecake, The Flour Shoppe doesn’t cater to as many dietary restrictions but on plus side I found the cupcakes to be better tasting and a dollar less expensive. The Flour Shoppe is located in the heart of the Glebe and has seating that overlooks Bank Street that is great for people watching. My favorite cupcake is their chocolate with peanut butter frosting which isn’t overly sweet and you can really taste the peanut butter. The cupcakes are very moist and don’t fall apart when peeling off the wrapper like some places. Their specialty cupcakes change daily and can be amazing. Every now and then they have a black forest cupcake is awesome and I recommend buying two; if you don’t as soon as the first one is gone you’ll be sad you don’t have another. If you’re in the area and looking for a sweet treat you can’t do much better than The Flour Shoppe.

I don’t eat cupcakes often. I prefer an honest, manly cake to a squidgy girly confection. I also don’t eat sweets very often and when I do, I want them to be worth the effort. Alas, Flour Shoppe didn’t do it for me. I loved the store — so very cute. I loved the flavours — peanut butter, chipotle chocolate — yum! And they looked very tasty. Unfortunately, I found the cake to be dry and the icing was like a separate planet — disconnected from the cake and very firm. By smushing the two together and eating with a fork, the giant icing mound moistened up the cake, but I’m not sure this was the point. For more grown-up treats, try the Morala coffee shop up the road which boasts a Mexican baker who makes Argentinean treats(or vice versa). The dulce de leche shorbread cookies with coconut are excellent!

Ahhhh… The Flour Shoppe’s cupcakes may have just saved my sanity tonight. After spending a whole lot of time running around(the holiday season is upon us!!!) I was super hangry(hungry + angry) and wanted to sob with exhaustion. It was then that I opened the(nearly barren) fridge and, THANKYOUGOD, I remembered I bought a box of six cupcakes from The Flour Shoppe this morning, and it all floated back to me. That wonderful experience of walking into a bakery in the morning and being greeted by the smell of fresh baking. I think my shoulders may have visibly relaxed when I entered and inhaled. This shop is absolutely lovely. Located just past Pretoria on Bank Street, this little shop is a slice of heaven. Awash in light purples and ivory, it’s a girl’s dream. The stunning cupcakes(works of art?) were all displayed individually behind a glass wall on little pedestals. I was greeted by the super pleasant and adorable owner, Melissa, who was more than happy to make recommendations when the large supply of flavors left me stumped. She ended up asking me some questions, and here’s what I went for: strawberry, chipolte chocolate, cookies n’ cream, coconut, eggnog and chocolate hazelnut. I wasn’t able to sample ALL the flavors(the boyfriend snagged a couple!), but of the ones I did get to were so good I wanted to cry(I told you… it was a long day!). The coconut was my favourite — a thick buttercream icing covered in coconut was rich and delightful, and the vanilla cake was moist and dense. YUM. If you’re looking to escape from the dreariness of the winter weather, step into this amazing shop and sample one(or 3) of their amazing cupcakes. You’ll be glad you did!

Their cupcakes are beautifully displayed and delicious. They have a range of unique cupcake flavors(e.g., earl grey, chocolate chip pancake, eggnog) which vary depending on the day of the week. The staff was friendly and efficient.

It was my first visit, and first cupcake from The Flour Shoppe, and it was pleasant. I had the Vanilla Bean Latte cupcake, which was piled high with great icing, not overly sweet, my only problem was how to eat it without huge mouthfuls of only icing! I had to rip the cake apart and smoosh icing on other parts. So perhaps a bit too high of a icing: cake ratio. The place was air conditioned which was a necessity to make me at all consider eating cake on such a hot day! I wish the wifi was available to customers, as it would have been nice to write this review while eating my cupcake.
