I attended an intimate wedding reception at the Sapphire Room and the service was excellent. They did a great job at ensuring the bride/groom and guests were having a good time.

I don’t always drink cocktails, but when I do I hate going to «mixologists» who look at you sideways if you don’t order their overpriced and pretentious sugary masterpieces. This place is not that. Just a nice, cozy laid back cocktail bar.

We love to stop at The Sapphire Room before or after a dinner out for a well-made martini(or two). It’s pretty hard to beat their drink menu and we’ve always found the bevvies to be expertly poured. The drink specials are always inventive, too. Dave likes a dry Hendrix martini and they do it up just right. The staff is always friendly, although you can expect bar service only later at night when the place fills up with after hour revellers. Definitely a younger crowd later in the evening with a regular DJ but even us older(40+) folks feel welcomed no matter when. We’ve had light apps there a couple of times and enjoyed them. One of the things we love most is the kitschy décor — right off the cover of a 1950’s risqué romance novel. Great! No children. Open 5pm-2am.

I have spent many an evening at the sapphire room over the years and have always been fond of the place. I’d heard it had changed for the worse recently, but my visit last night was as good as ever. First off, points for being open til 2 on a Sunday. Not so many places are, in downtown Peterborough. The interior has changed little in many years. It’s a long narrow space with a long bar along the left side and many seating options, bar stools, couches, tables, to choose from. It’s dimly lit, cozy, and slick. The fella working the bar last night was lovely. It was slow and rather than spend his time on the phone or being too cool to serve, he was most happy to play along with my many drink requests, even happily choosing something for me when I couldn’t. Only four stars because the sapphire is sort of my Cheers(in that everyone knows my name), so it’s hard to judge whether everyone’s experience would be as delightful as mine.
