Lago Italian Bakery

Very rude staff. The food was decent but because they were impolite and rude, I won’t return! I told the owner and she didn’t care to apologize or make the experience better. Poor business practise.

Lago is my favourite bakery around by far. Their pizza is amazing, their breads/​buns are fantastic! and their veal cutlets are huge and delicious and very well priced.

Woof! I’m in a bit of a food coma right now but I’ll try to get through this.
I came in there with the intention of checking out a nearby bakery for baked goods but to find a main dish here as I read that they had a hot counter.
First of all, their baked goods looked pretty fantastic. (Better than the other place, as it turns out). But I didn’t get to try that, or their breads or anything else so I can’t speak to that.
I ended up going with some rose sauce gnocchi (medium), one piece of veal (in red sauce) and a side of rapini. The final bill, after tax, was $ 16.67.
First of all, the lady at the counter who was serving me was very patient and attentive. She picked up that I wanted some rapini but I mentioned that I didn’t want to pay an additional $ 7 for a side of rapini (considering how much other food I had) and she pointed out that she could give me a side (quite generous, really) for $ 2.50. It wasn’t a special deal as I saw it on the menu… but I just didn’t notice it at the time. She also put some parmesean cheese on my gnocchi (not much) and some red chili flakes — but when I said that I like spice she gave me some kind of chili oil that they cooked… which ended up not being spicy at all but quite filling and it was a nice touch.
The rapini was great. Fresh and hardly bitter. The gnocchi was extremely filling (and I’ve eaten gnocchi plenty of times… it was just such a heavy sauce for a rose) and satisfying and the veal was tender and delicious. The food was NOT salty which I am extremely pleased about. Everything just hit the spot…
In fact, I could only force myself to eat about 60% of the meal before I started into a food coma. It was MUCH more filling than it appeared. I’ll have left overs later… and honestly, i can eat quite a bit. So the meal was more than fairly priced in the end.
A fantastic store with good prices. I can’t really complain. It was very comfortable as well. I did not ask if they had any cannolis though. Didn’t see any…

The freshest most delectable corn bread. Hot counter, gelato counter and many quality pastas and imported olive oils. Found my favorite Italian olive oil here after looking for it for a long time (Mantova Premium).
This is a quality place, stocking quality ingredients.

Lago Italian Bakery … Seems to be the Sunday morning hangout after Sunday church. The smell of freshly baked breads and espresso coffee wakes up the senses. I go in the morning so as to get freshly cut cold-​cuts and bread. The hot table looks delicious with an array of veal, sausages, peppers, pasta and meatballs. All home made.
There is a small seating area and the vibe is friendly. While there is an array of pastries, Cakes are few. A selection of Italian pastas, canned tomatoes and olive oils are visible on their well stocked shelves. Very clean.

I loved their buns/​dinner rolls; the crust is very crispy; yummy… 4 stars
hot table food:
sandwich: good because of the bun … 4 stars
pasta/​rice: ok… 3 stars, nothing special
veggies: fresh and not soggy… 3.5 stars

This is a great gem in Oak Ridges. The staff are fantastic (and there are always plenty around to help you out), the desserts are amazing (I HIGHLY recommend the cannoli) and the bread is very tasty. I really enjoy the hot table food there– amazing quality at a fantastic price. They also have a great selection of Italian items there for your own cooking tastes.
This is the kind of place that I really hope succeeds and makes me happy to live nearby! Best of luck to you guys.
