I just couldn’t help but sing the old Beatles song after wandering into this bakery/​grocery that reminded me of the old empty shelve stores in the former Soviet Union.
About 70% of the shelving was empty, and the 30% that had stuff did not look appealing at all. Be it the discounted dollar store like items (bag of 100 paper cups anyone?), or the frozen foods with layers of ice on them (freezer burn anyone?), or the baked goods which were all wrapped in a tight sealed plastic (stale anyone?), or the Russian speaking woman behind the counter telling you, «Discount good.»
Flashbacks. Back in the USSR!
