Newton Beef Noodle House

So happy to discover this new place from Unilocal!Came for an afternoon snack and the place was quite empty, but started getting busy around 5:30pm. They had highchairs, the space was clean and spacious, and nice waitresses.
We ordered the Special Beef Noodle with the thin noodles, the Deep Fried Fish Cake, the Popcorn Chicken, and the Papaya Milk Tea under the Fresh Fruits section. The broth for the Beef Noodle had really good depth in flavor, a tad spicy, and really good. The thin noodles were bouncy and grabbed the flavors of the broth very well and the large chunks of beef were very tender. The Fish Cake was better than most places we’ve been to, great flavors too. The Popcorn Chicken was also good, better than Pearl Castle, not as good as Leisure Tea (though Leisure’s isn’t really Popcorn Chicken but another way of doing deep fried chicken). The deep fried foods didn’t taste as MSG-​y as other places so that’s a plus — at least my body didn’t demand a ton of liquids after. The Papaya Milk had very subtle papaya flavors; I would’ve liked a stronger papaya taste but hubby really liked it, especially if they are really using fresh fruits like they claim since we really prefer places that serve BBT with real fruit.

This Taiwanese beef noodle join is legit!
Buddy and I shared a bowl of half boneless beef shank and half tendon noodle soup with wide noodles and we loved it! The broth was deep and flavorful. The wide noodles were cooked to PERFECTION, super bouncy and chewy. The boneless beef shank and tendon were cooked just right. I love the minced preserved mustard greens with the noodle soup. Also, the portion is HUGE. I don’t know how anyone can finish a single bowl by himself or herself. This place offers different variation of beef noodle soup which I am excited to try them all. The variations include tomato broth, spicy broth, etc.
We also shared two appetizers: braised medium-​solid tofu and pig’s ears. They came with soy sauce, minced garlic, and garnished with cilantro. These items are pretty standard.
Buddy ordered a hot wheat germ bubble tea. Bubble tea was served in take-​out coffee cup which is something we’ve never seen. The portion felt small; nonetheless, the flavor was good! The tea was fragrant, and the bubbles were fresh and cooked to perfect chewiness.
Service was speedy and attentive.

Beef noodle soup was hearty and full of flavor~ but a small disappointment was that my wide noodle was overly cooked. However, would return to try it again (maybe in the thin noodles).

I been looking for a good taiwanese noodle place for a while now. Ordered the special beef noodle soup and popcorn chicken with thick noodles. Cucumber and beef tripe appys. The noodles, beef, and chicken were delish!!! The beef tripe was meh, a bit salty. Overall, really yummy and I would def be returning to try the thin noodles and other appys. Only down side is pay parking outside!

Looks like this place is here to stay! My second time here for dinner and it was packed on Saturday night.
Nicely renovated from its old atmosphere of the two previous phở restaurants in this spot, its wooden floors, black tables and new paint make it welcoming. The smell of rich broth will make you want to order their special beef noodle. Lots of soft, beef chunks, I like the chewy, tenderness of the thick noodles and along with the pickled vegetables it adds that nice acid crunch to balance that rich, dark beef broth.
I really enjoyed their taiwanese fried chicken as well. Piping hot juicy chicken pieces covered in a crunchy batter of sweet and saltiness. I know it’s not good for me but boy, does it taste addicting!
Service is can be good but also slow at times depending on the flow of customers but its a plus they accept credit cards! Parking is all paid until after 9pm but you can always park a few blocks away in the neighborhood to walk off all the calories you have consumed. Overall, a decent spot to get your beef noodle craving satisfied in Richmond, where there aren’t that many places to do so.

Another new Taiwanese noodle house opened in Richmond. It’s clean and cozy.
We were looking for good beef briskets noodles for a while, this is the one would make me return.
The beef briskets were tender and tasty with large amount of thick noodles.
Chive dumplings were good but the wrap a bit thick.
Beef tripe and pig ears just little salty.
Overall, the service was good but a bit slow. The food quality and quantity is pretty decent. Keep it up!

This review is just mainly about their service. But for the food id give them 5 stars. The food was pretty good. Their special beef noodle soup was very tasty. The beef was very tender and soft. The noodles were also very good texture. I had gotten the thicker noodles. I prefer the thicker noodles over the original.
The popcorn chicken was also very good. It wasn’t too salty like at some places, there was enough flavour and spices added to it to and had a good crunch factor. The chicken was pretty juicy and size of the chicken was above average size. They gave quite a lot of chicken for a decent price.
The service I wasn’t too fond of unfortunately. The waitress forgot to put in our order and had to wait almost 45 mins to get our food. Had to wave her down again and ask where was our food that we ordered?! I wasn’t too happy about how forgetful they were especially the place wasn’t packed or that busy either. They at least made it up by giving us a discount for their forgetful service.
Overall good food especially the beef noodle soup and popcorn chicken but their service and staff need to be more attentive.

I like this place because the soup is a clean beef noodle soup. The flavours are fairly standard and so are the choices (special, spicy) but they do have a bit more than other places. But really what I like is that the soup is just clean. With the addition of bok choy and some mustard greens, it’s just a delicious beef noodle. Portion size is good (I got the thick noodles and the special beef noodle came with about 5 chunks of very tender beef).
Solid choice, and they accept debit, credit and cash… special for Richmond.

I really enjoyed this place. Service is a little slow. Food is great though. Ive had my share of beef noodles. This one is up there.

Newer Taiwanese joint with good quality, portions, and service.
Beef noodle has tasty broth, well marinated beef that’s a good size & quality, and equally important good noodles. Tried thin & think; both are good!
Chicken nuggets (Taiwanese style) are decent, but lacking basil and sometimes they’re a bit too greasy.
Overall good place that’s definitely worth a shot if you are a Taiwanese Beef Noodle fan!
Oh and they take credit card!

This may be a quick one depending on how long my second dish takes.
I do like the food here. Beef noodles are tasty and you get a sizeable portion of beef. Broth if tasty as well. But the service… Oh man it’s bad. It’s slow. It’s inattentive. And the food takes forever.
Got my choice dumplings which I really like. And now I’m waiting for my beef rolls. It’s been 35 minutes since I placed my order. 10 minutes since I’ve finished my dumplings. Now I’ve requested the forthcoming beef rolls to go as I’ll be late back to work.
The worse part… I see other tables getting their beef rolls and they arrived and ordered after me.
Ridiculous.

My mother and I were looking for a quick bite before heading over to English Bay for the Celebration of Lights. Didn’t felt like Korean or Japanese or formal Chinese food… just something quick and clean. We were heading towards that Beijing Noodle place beside Brighouse when we saw this beef noodle house. Opened up Unilocal and saw four stars; what the hell, we’ll give it a shot.
Service was prompt and attentive. We got seated and chose two Red Roast Beef Noodles, Chive Boxes, and a Strawberry Juice for myself. While we waited, I found the tea that they serve had a very subtle attraction. I enjoyed that tea. The tables were slightly off-​balance though.
The major theme of this visit is: slow. Food comes out very slowly. Not sure if kitchen isn’t optimized or it was just an off day with few people manning the kitchen but the food crawled out of the kitchen. My mother’s bowl came out around 10min after mine when the only difference is that I ordered thin noodles while my mom ordered thick noodles. The red roast beef was VERY tender and delicious; well done. Broth was flavorful without excessive grease. The bokchoy was fresh and good quality. Overall, very filling and exactly what we came for.
Now for the unhappy stuff. The strawberry slush had chunks of ice in it. I’ll leave it at that. The chive boxes never came. We finished our noodle soups and the chive boxes were nowhere to be found. We got the bill and left. The festivities at English Bay waits for now one.
Nonetheless, it was an average meal and I might hit it again if I was craving Beef Noodle Soup with lack of options in the local area. So three stars for now. Kitchen get faster and juice machine upgrades ice destruction capabilities and I would’ve given five stars easy for a quick bite.

Went there for dinner with friends. They were able to accommodate 6 adults and 2 infants reasonably quickly. The noodles were pretty good, but on the pricey side at $ 10. Spicy pig ears and spicy wontons were tasty appies, but again pricey. The fried chicken skin was a bit disappointing. Milk tea was standard fare. My biggest complaint was that the food came out pretty slowly.

Its a solid beef noodle spot. Its got a lot of bubble tea selections and some other dishes. But if you call yourself a beef noodle place, then you better deliver. And I think it does!
The bowl has the semi standard mustards, some greens, thick or thin noodles, and… beef!
The flavors were all there, but not my favorite joint. However, let’s talk about just their merits.
The noodles were well cooked and the beef was tender with decent flavours. The broth was not as developed (a little watery still), but its got a feel to some of the spots in Taiwan. I had a taste of the spicy broth and that was pretty good. I’ll come back to try that broth. Lastly, I wished the mustards were more flavourful.
Service was very friendly, asked how my meal was, and they take credit card…

Finally had a chance to try Newton. Had the Special Beef Noodle and it was very tasty. Not oily like some people say and had lots of preserved vegetables and meat. You can choose the Noodle thickness if you like thin or thick. The service was OK but I think over time they should fix all the kinks. Computer was down the 2^nd time I visited so I wasn’t able to get my receipt. Good menu choice and can’t wait to try all the other dishes.

I wanted to like it, and although it was alright, I don’t feel like it deserves 4 stars quite yet. I’ll probably visit again at some point and re-​evaluate.
Pros: Good flavor, thick noodles, large quantity of meat. Dining room and washrooms were decently clean.
Cons: Soup was too oily, service was slow, and not that welcoming.
Advice to business: Post your menu on the glass outside your door. Post your hours of business as well. Offer a large and a regular bowl. Offer extra noodles as an option. Tell your servers to smile and act friendly. Get a paper menu and start deliveries or pickups. The takeout business in that area with all those condos is big. Just look at Banzai Sushi or Sakura Sushi.

Friend and I were looking for some beef noodles after hockey and given we weren’t too stoked on one of the regular Taiwanese joints in Richmond open late (Strike, Zephyr, Pearl Castle, Welltea, etc.), we set out to find some place that came up on Unilocal called Chamonix. Unfortunately for them, we weren’t able to locate it and stumbled upon Newton Beef Noodle House which has only been open for 1 week. It’s on the corner of Saba and something right by the Richmond Public Market and I believe it used to be a phở restaurant.
If you read any of my other reviews, you’ll know that I’m an avid Taiwanese beef noodle lover and have had far too many bowls all over Taiwan. I ordered the house special (紅燒牛肉麵) at $ 8.95 and asked for no pickled cabbage (okay, I admit… I’m only half-​Taiwanese!), a small dish of sesame oil, and a small dish of chili oil. You have the option of thin or thick noodles, both hand pulled. I’m a fan of thinner (which aren’t even that thin) noodles and I specifically asked for them to not be cooked too soft. I am VERY picky with beef noodles because it is my favourite dish in the world. Oddly enough, the spicy beef noodles (麻辣牛肉麵) costs more ($ 9.75?), but I doubt the broth is any different. I’m sure they just liberally add chili oil to it. This place has very authentic broth and gives several large chunks of beef shank (牛腱) along with 2 pieces of Shanghai bok choy. Once I added in my sesame oil and chili oil, it was pretty similar to my desired taste profile and I really enjoyed it.
We also ordered the salty peppery chicken (鹽酥雞) which was $ 5.95 and spot on. Crispy, juicy, tender, and a nice amount of Taiwanese salt & pepper.
The service was probably the best I’ve ever experienced at an Asian restaurant. Very attentive with your tea/​water levels. Unfortunately the waitress forgot to say I didn’t want pickled cabbage but she apologized profusely for it.
They’re open from 12pm-​12am every day and in a pretty central location. It’s a nice alternative to the bubble tea places that currently dominate the market as well. Give it a shot!
Oh, and they accept credit card.
